Navy over-haul
Our navies should move faster. This would open up several options for Naval battle. 1. You can set Charted Courses. using an updated ETA, a person could send a fleet to intercept. 2. Fix Land to sea batteries. If someone can't afford a navy or their navy gets destroyed, they can fall back on their L2SMB. 3. Create a Naval Bomber. This can be used to slam targets, especially naval targets. This would make Naval Warfare SO much funner. It would also open up dozens of new, fun war possibilities.

Great idea Austia. Anyone else out there an old HARPOON fan? The naval portion of the engine is undeveloped but has so many possibilities. Blockades, amphibious landings, submarine warfare, surface warfare, trade routes, and so much more.

Helicopter carriers, fleet commands, and aircraft carriers are already in place. A list of changes.

1. Detach submarines from fleets. Subs are a stand alone weapons platform. As such should be able to form a fleet by themselves. This would allow submarine warfare against surface targets. Submarines should not be visible unless found by radar planes. Submarines could be given cruise missile capability as in real life. This would open up new possibilities for the war engine.

2. Naval Aviation is in place in the form of NFP. The addition of bombers would be easily done and give a new option for long range warfare. Use the same specs as precision bombers.

3. Amphibious Landings would be as simple as using the formula for aircraft landings with an increase in the amount carried per ship. Add an item called Landing Ships. It would be along the same principles as SF landings with the main difference being the target zone must be a coastline.

4. Surface Warfare would be more in depth. Perhaps adding zones to the seas as the current ground engine uses. Once fleets are within range of each other the war page zooms in to a map of an area and fleet movements can be done in real time as is done in ground warfare. The purpose would be to engage enemy fleets with destroyers, SEALs, ect. It would be a great addition to the current war engine.

5. Blockades would be an easier addition as it would be part of a boycott scenario. Perhaps number of ships involved multiplied by a certain percentage of the world trade the country in question is involved in subtracted from monthly income.

Any other suggestions? Lets create a great naval engine and then we can test it on each other...:)

Wow... Harpoon! That's a blast from the past. I always had the habit of sending my planes past "bingo" fuel... the mission comes first!

I haven't gotten to play with the naval warfare in the war engine yet, but it does seem subs should be kinda stealthy... and a nice place to tuck away some nukes as an insurance policy.

Excellent ideas.

I'm all for it, but I wish they would fix the economic model a little better before adding more war stuff and videos and city maps.

It definitely has my vote of support though I would like to see limitations to any naval update included. I'm sick of seeing carrier groups that have 5000+ navy fighters but just 1 carrier. Sorry but that just irritates me to no end.

I'm also with you Treasurer with them fixing the economic model before adding to the game. Seems like they can never finish a project without picking up on another.

Well I agree with the fact that weapons numbers are way too high. We fight wars with the equivilant numbers of tanks and aircraft used in the Second World War.

Its like our money. The GMs are working to reduce numbers all across the board.

I would think cutting all weapons in half would be a good place to start with a reduction in the damage from attacking and defending weapons.

For example the United States Navy is the Worlds largest.

Total personnel: 490,000

Commissioned battle ready ships: 283

Naval aircraft: 3700+

There needs to be an overhaul of the entire battle display. We need several different options for viewing and making tactical decisions.

For example, the screen right now is entirely too limited, since we can only deal with one country at a time, and similarly, there is no genuinely easy or efficient way to do an active defense while continuing on offense.

EDIT: This is in reference to #4 in the original post. I would love to see a more detailed display for war fighting. One that gives you more information, more options, all in once screen.

We also need something that loads quicker. What is the effin' deal with 5 minute load times for the war pages? If it's a matter of all the objects on screen, then we need a client. Or we need new graphics, or an option for a "basic" war view that doesn't load all the images.

yes, you should be able to control all units of your empire, not just from the country your in.

everyone has tried to move a Division to realise they have to go to another country to move it. :(

Well I guess you could consider the country-swapping thing to be "fog of war" :)

I like the general idea, I liked Harpoon too. But as others have said, basic functionality has to be fixed first before adding what could be a very complex naval war engine.

1. We should fix Land to sea bats. That needs to be done for several reasons. A) they exist, therefor they work. B)opens up an entire new dimension to Naval warfare. C) It would Juice up a stagnent pool in the world markets.

2. Navy Bomber- Should be vulnerable to NFP and dangerous agains land to sea bats, MIB and DMB.
Also dangerous against destroyers, subs and fleet commands/carriers.

3. Faster ship movements ie two game weeks instead of one month.
This would allow for HUGE Naval showdowns.
It would fallow projected courses and strategy to keep your navy alive.

4. Blockades- A whole new kinda drama:) You guys know that would be fun.
King would have an UNGODLY blockade on him right now. Stu would have blockades on Wendy and Wendy would have blockades on Stu. I'd blockade myself, just for fun. And everyone who owned naval corps would be wrolling in the Moolah.

5. Make Seals units and Destroyers more effective.
Also, make defensive Destroyers defend against air attacks....like they really do.
Like sam said- Make subs multipurposed including antifleet, cruise missle, nuke and/or chem. It could also be used for espionage.(used like a radar plane.)

The combined navies of all NLUO members, Wendy and King included wouldn't stand a chance against mine - I would just sink the lot in minutes!!! I love this idea though - in fact I love them all. I agree that the naval war engine needs a major overhaul and would open up a whole part of the game that a lot dont use. Another thing I would like to see is the addition of mine laying ships and mine hunters. Combine this with landmines and that would help create the ultimate defence!!!

The only thing with naval blockades though - people would do it to each other for fun. For instance, after a few beers I would do it to my fedmates just because I would find it funny!!!

I would also like to see an 'empire at war' screen, where you can control your entire empires forces from one screen, including defensive weapons and units. This would, in my opinion, make war a lot more enjoyable and place a new strategic element into the gameplay.
