The solution I propose is simple. Reduce the ammo usage of all land forces (tanks, artillery, armored vehicles), missile batteries (except conventional/cruise missiles), and airforce units in combat by half. Then increase the damage and accuracy of such units by 50%. This results in several things happening at the same time:

1) Ammo usage by units is cut in half, while the effectiveness of these units in combat remains the same as it is now.

2) Those with large ammo stockpiles, who have been steadily increasing them, might now have enough ammo for their pile with this change, therefore they will stop buying ammo.

3) This deals with the demand side of the equation, while most previous efforts have dealt with supply. When demand is greater than supply by factors of as much as 20 to 1, supply increases are not going to help as much as reducing demand. This solution deals with demand in a one-two punch as listed above.

There will be some who will continue to buy ammo regardless. But this will reduce the demand and usage of ammo, which over time should reduce shortages of ammo on all worlds. It should be a simple coding change too, as Offensive AA Batteries have recently been tweaked twice. Even if my suggestion is not taken into account, demand for ammo needs to be cut significantly if there is going to be a solution to the shortages.

Personally, I love the ammo shortages. The amount of weapons being sold in this game is delicious. I tend to stockpile ammo myself but I don't bother dumping it back on the market. If they every implement the code that will see ammo quality reduce over time, ammo shortages will get even worse.

This is a competitive game. You need enough defense to block the invader. You need enough offense to smash through the defense. The current crop of players on LU will cause ammunition shortages regardless of price or effectiveness. More effective weapons will have higher demand than ineffective, but the shortage will appear somewhere.

Increasing the profitability of ammunition corporations could alleviate the shortage but it would create shortages in other areas. Shortages in products like services will cause other companies to stop production. Ammunition shortages have no adverse effect on production.

I think this is a social problem, while some powerfull CEOs and president wants to sell their arsenal others poor nations are bored seen their countries sometimes going into debt due to the huge purchased of ammo that the automatic placin order make.

eh i like ur demand side fix but why dont u do that as well as a supply fix? i liked the gm idea increase ammo production cuz cmon get real 30 missiles aint nothing u need 1k corps to stock your own 10 country empire over a period of like 2 or 3 months. and thats for 1 defense bat. but heres the kicker. if you increase ammo production it needs to be 4x as much on the defense bats, but without an increase in supplies and workers needed. so u quadruple the supply for start at no additional cost to the market. ofcourse this means all ammo for the defense bats will be costing 1/4 as much. which will stop the auto ammo ordering from bankrupting newbie nations so much. then as mentioned you make all those things 2x as accurate thus reducing the need for ammo by half. but then u also make all damage dealt by these weapons by 2 fold. so now if u did all that what have you done? you reduce the need by 4x and increase the supply by 4x that means u have done a huge fix that may even be over kill hell i have no idea how much ammo the gm has been dumping into the market forever. i aint a math wiz so someone figure out if that is a 8x fix or a 16x fix lol. oh btw full red bar demand on a certain 5 or 6 items consistently is needed for a safe bet for ceos to hedge their profits. i know i have atleast half of my corps do wild insane losses sometimes and out of 940 corps those oil fmu electric offensive sea ammo are killing the return averages of my defense ammo medical materials on LU so how about a instant free corp industry conversion option so i can get out of these poorer performing green bar industries into the full red bar ones and help alleviate this problem?

On the contrary PS, quality will affect shortages or surplus IF W3C ever implements the grade of weapons quality into ammo. Imagine you having a 200 quality ammo stock and watch it drop DAILY. Within no time flat, your 200 quality is now 100 quality or worse. That 100 quality weapon / ammo is now not as effective as the 200 quality it was. So, in order to keep your quality up and high, you'll have to constantly be buying ammo to maintain that level. Mind you, this will be a scenario ONLY if they implement those kinds of changes.

If you have quality 100 ammo and want quality 250. You have to get rid of the quality 100 ammo first. So low grade ammo gets sent to a slave where it is sold. Then you buy new quality 250 ammo. The total ammunition in circulation stays the same.

If you just buy quality 250 your ammo would only rise to 175. It would be back to 100 in half the time.

Amunition may be in shortage in LU, but it is now in huge surplus in WG. I think the solution is to simply raise the base price of amunition and make it more profitable to make.

The second thing that would help is to increase the peace time use of amunition.

Although it may appear silly that increasing the use of amunition would improve the supply, it actually would. This is called SUPPLY SIDE economics. If we make it profitable to make and sell amunition, people will.

Some people will then complain that it cost money to attack others...well that is all relative. The stronger defenses are, the stronger someone needs to take over the country. If we make weapons more expensive (or less) it will not impact the money needed to take over a country because the cost of attacking a country will always be related to the cost of defending a country.

If the issue is the cost of attacking C3s, this is easily solved by making C3s weaker, and therefore easier to take-over.

Nothing is gained, however, by making weapons less profitable to build, nor by reducing the use of peace-time use of amunition. All that does is lead to more issues with shortages.

Again, the best solution is to raise the base price of weapons and amunition. Increasing the output (number of weapons and amunition made) is not the best solution. This will increase the demand for the supplies used by weapons makers, without increasing the base price of the weapon (more demand for supplies). This will lower the profitability (in the short run) for weapons makers and discourage people from building them.

Silly person.

WG ammo is in surplus because I made it that way. I did post in the WG section of the forum that I have been dumping weapons on the market.

You can argue about how to fix the larger issue across all worlds, but the difference between WG and other worlds is due to my weapons/ammo offers.

That of course raises the point that the shortages must not be terribly severe if one person can make such a difference.
