WHAT HAPPENED?

A couple of RL weeks ago the market for advanced effectivity and quality went down the crapper on GR. The supply always ran at about -3000 to -7000 for both of these products. The corporations were always profitable.

Then one day I log in and see that there is a surplus and there has been an over supply ever since. Now these corps are losing money.

WTF happened?

Wrong section. This goes under either Golden Rainbow or Help.

Supply is never negative. You mean shortage.

The market overcompensated. Or the shortage you saw was sporadic.

You should not worry about such small things.

The shortage was not sporadic. I have been playing the game for almost a year. There was a consistent shortage of these products during this time.

The switch from shortage to surplus occurred during the time when there were changes made to the game. Maybe the April 14th changes to quality of materials, etc.

I posted it here because this section is for general discussion of the game. If this change is due to changes in the game then this is the forum where everyone seems to complain about them.

And if the changes affected all the worlds posting only in the GR forum could limit the amount of info this post provides. After all, I don't bother to read posts in the forums of the other worlds.

Finally, telling someone they shouldn't worry about such small things is completely useless and adds nothing to the discussion.

I have a dozen or so formally profitable, fully upgraded corps that are now going in debt and I would like to know if the reason is due to some sort of change made in the game. That bothers me and I choose to worry about it.

So does anyone else have any input?

There are several ways to respond. Some conceal flaws of different sorts in different degrees. Others... just make them even more evident.

You don't need to tell me how long you have been playing. I have a pretty good memory. I read everything that is posted here, even during my absence, and I collect and work data from all worlds. To state how long you have playing adds nothing to the discussion.

If this event is happening on all worlds at the same time, you should have stated so in your post. As you can imagine, players can't or won't bother about economic situations that happen beyond their world, their sphere of influence.

This is worth quoting. Can anyone else see the irony?

You are circularly wrong. To choose to worry about something that is outside of your sphere of influence is futile. It will serve no purpose. Telling you and everyone else not to worry is all that can be done.

Besides, I believe the answer is evident in the synchronism. To keep asking for a why will only sum down to bitching and no-action.

Instead of searching for a why, ask for what to do or how. What do I do? What can I do? Do I keep those corps or do I close them? How do I keep them up and running? Can they still make a profit? These questions are far more logical and productive, as they are within your sphere of influence. They will ask for your criticism, however.

I am not worried, despite the ownership of 5% to 10% of all quality and effectivity corps in every world being under my name. Or... I did. Maybe the corps closed down. Don't know. Haven't checked lately. Doesn't bother me.

I could have just told you the why and satisfy your punctual curiosity. Would have spared much of my time. But if you and others learn from this, it would be far more productive. Interestingly enough, whether others recognize it or not, this is a river of words that comes from a simple maxim: adapt or leave.

Not that I am telling you to leave. Just that you still have much to learn and that you would do a better job at that by assuming other postures.

we have improved the automatic transfers into this group each game month to the maximum of 30.000.

The Golden Rainbow world now runs 4 game months per day.

If a player logs in once per day and decides whether or not to build a corporations. He/she used to have 3 months of education to work with. Now there are more engineers and HLW available. You are likely to see more high tech companies.

If the players who log into GR keep the same real world schedule then every decision will happen at 75% in GR time. That means fewer new corps created and shut down. It also means upgraded corporations last longer before getting destroyed in wars or reset in an expired account.

The effect of fewer corporations created will show up 50 to 100 game months later. At 4 months per real day that would be 12 to 25 real days.

Another good reason to stay quiet is to avoid spreading misinformation - or wrong observations, premises, conclusions, understand it as you may -, as in the case above.

My my, it's grumpy Laguna ... :)

There really is no need to put people down so much.

Players who do not have large countries / empires often worry about the 'small' things. They may be small to us, but to a newer player it can have a big effect, or they haven't yet got it into perspective. That's not their fault ... neither is the inability to express themselves perfectly.

Understanding why is much better than just being told how to fix it. Being told doesn't expand your understanding of the game, it just gives you another tool to solve a specific problem. If you can understand why, you can understand how it relates to everything else and build up a more detailed picture of the entire game. Let's face it, this game is all about the way in which everything has an impact on almost everything else.

I do not doubt that you know and understand every nuance of this game, Laguna, but you are one of the very few who do. You know how long I've been playing and I still have a lot to learn and occasionally find I have misunderstood things I thought I did know. But unless you are prepared to fully answer every question (and I wouldn't expect you to), the rest of us have to rely on incomplete and sometimes inaccurate responses from those players who are kind enough to take the time to help.

If someone gets it partially wrong, hopefully there are others out there who understand that particular detail and will reply, and thus we all learn. If no one posted unless they were 100% certain they had it right, there would be much less traffic on this forum, and much less help. If Cannibal got it wrong, wouldn't it be more positive for you to explain how?

Be nice!

Hugs and respect

Jo
