The latest game update seems to have created a bug that prevented new military units from being created.
This has greatly handicapped some players, and in no small part has lead to some players losing countries in on going wars.

Yes, there are Java issues all over the place. With both Firefox and IE 7/8. It is not just limited to creating new units.

That's because you heathens believe in war.

I, on the other hand, believe in trains. Therefore, we have no trains.

I've switched to google chrome to run the game - it seems to work better than Firefox - but it still seems to "hang" sometimes.

Chrome is good, except the chat is annoying with it. Is Chrome working ok to spawn units? I haven't downloaded it onto my new laptop yet.

I can answer that question myself. Just installed Chrome, and no. Chrome isn't working right either.

Simcountry really needs two things badly:

1. A client.

2. A "HTML only" option.

Another complaint about this latest update is that you can not move the objects on the big map or the small map.So there is a bug that the gamemaster will have to fix it sooner. This latest update did stuff up the objects to be moved around because not long a go before the new updates was updated the gamers were able to move the objects around the maps and all of a sudden we cant move them because of the bloody latest update.so I suggest the gamemaster bette5r read this complaint. If any other players are experiencing the same problem let us know too so the gamemaster can see where he went wrong or he might be able to fix the bug.Cheers.

One of our feds newer members has spent alot of gold coins buying weapons to fight a war, only to lose said war without firing a shot because he could not set up units.
I think he deserves a refund!

I know where he went wrong, but he didn't give the chance to email him first.

For now, I'm just going to say that your airport/base is being selected to a window that does not exist.

I don't send another bug report, while the previous remains unanswered.

"One of our feds newer members has spent alot of gold coins buying weapons to fight a war, only to lose said war without firing a shot because he could not set up units."

The obvious solution to that is to have units set up all the time. Seems the aggressor was working under the same set of problems.

W3C has already addressed multiple bugs I've reported with this update, and I've only informed them of the ones that effected me.

They have been slow answering several of my emails (slow enough that I sent at least one twice) but I would imagine they are busy at the moment and they did send a "I got it" email this morning indicating they will at least look into things when they can.

In all my years in this game I've always found if you:

1. Clearly state the problem, to the point they are able to see the problem.

2. Give them enough information to reproduce the problem.

They will at least attempt to fix the problem and most times they do, at least temporarily.

If you feel you have a game problem (bug if you will) I suggest you write a complete report of what is happening and send it by email.

"You dumb Mother Fu*&!#s have totally screwed the Fu&$#*! game up again"

IS NOT a complete report and would probably end up in the trash bin, or a file somewhere, as a reminder as to why they banned you.

Additionally it doesn't even indicate a problem for them to look into, let alone fix.

Here is one of several examples in my mailbox this morning:

Dear Steven,

There was a javascript problem which I
solved a minute ago.
Please try again. It should work fine now.

Thanks for reporting this problem.

Kind regards,
The gamemaster.

The obvious solution is having a game that works as it is supposed to.
It take a few seconds to set up units when the game works. In this case a new player was unable to set up units. Reguardless of gameplay results he has spent money on a game that did not work as it is supposed to. He has now lost this country so his spent money is now lost.
This is not a very good way of keeping new players in the game.

Well you learn more by losing than winning. And I've ALWAYS captured more inactive hardware than I've ever destroyed in war.

I learned along time ago if its not active where it can be used, then it's not worth having.

If you want to trade off Defensive and Offensive capability for game profits .. that's a choice you make.

The obvious solution to me is if you don't want it drawing manpower or maint. costs in your country, keep it in your CEO's and drop it in at a moments notice.

Seems to me whoever took his country had the ACTIVE offensive capabilities to do it as they where under the same restrictions.

I seriously doubt the outcome would have been any different long term.

We could argue all day:

If he could have done this ...

Well if he had done that ...

The bottom line is, if a snake had a back pocket he'd pack a .38 to keep the snakes off his ass.

He made a choice and paid for it, very few strategies hold up past initial contact.

That's war at it's finest, those that adapt survive.

Could of beens dont matter one bit.
Facts are all that matter. The game did not work as it should. The customer should have a refund.
Just because this is a game does not mean that the customer does not have the right to a functional product for which they have paid.
We are talking about a new player here. They have not acquired the resources to simply acquire a new country. They will have to pay for it. I believe they should have their gcs returned to them.

Well lets see, my radar was "suppose" to give me look down, shoot down capability but there was a dust storm that day so I got smoked.

His opponet was under the exact same restrictions, seems to me the better long term strategy won.

This game already gives way to much to new players allowing them to follow the same old strategy.

I want to make tons of money so I'm not going to order this or do that. Seems to ME if he was a new player his FEDERATION failed him if it was not giving him advise.

He did after all make a conscience choice to join a federation where it was a better than average chance someone was going to get killed. Of course since he was a new player you could argue "he didn't know that".

Since his opponet was under the exact same restrictions seems the empire most ready for war won the day.

You are all heart yankee. So used to the game being bugged you see it has a player fault rather than a game fault.
Stratergy, tactics who cares how you play as long as the game works. Which it didnt.
Why should people pay for a faulty product?

Yankee (Fearless Blue)

Thursday, June 25, 2009 - 05:28 pm Click here to edit this post
No I simply look at it from my viewpoint. I made the choice to defend my countries, anyone rolling across my borders would have to deal with everything I have in country whether or not I could set up additional units.

Not only do I KNOW what my military is costing me, I can adequately provide for the manpower to have both guns AND butter. Anyplace I am short of Ammunition, fuel or whatever is immediately obvious.

Sure it costs my empire to do it, I don't make as much money, but I do make money even during a war and suffer no manpower shortages.

Why should I have sympathy for someone that neglected to protect what they built?

It's very obvious to anyone willing to see, one person was ready for war, one wasn't. I fail to see how the outcome would be any different.

You always want to attack an enemy when they are not ready, so if you don't want to lose be ready at all times.

With 'experienced' players like you lot, its no wonder people dont hang around in this game.
We are talking about a new player here. He has not been playing months like ares or years like yankee and bobo. He is new, he made mistakes. But that is clearly not the point here. The point is the game he payed to play did not work. Where else in life to you not expect a refund if the thing you purchase does not work!
The fact that you lot are happy with a bugged game says alot about you. The maturity you guys show bringing game issues into a genuine complaint about bug in the game says stacks about you to. Some vets in this game have a lot of growing up to do.

Khan... should have had your player take down his wings, put up what he needed to attack, then put the defense wings back up. I'm assuming he couldn't select a base from the list in order to deploy air attack wings because of air defense. That's really the only problem that should have had an effect.

"The fact that you lot are happy with a bugged game says alot about you"

I don't like game bugs anymore than anyone else, or exploits.

I however have a multi-mega bite file of emails to W3C discussing bugs/exploits with thier replies on how they where fixed, or explainations on why they where not bugs in the first place.

I don't discuss things I want fixed in the forum, I go straight to W3C and get something done about the situation.

Setting aside the fact when he signed up for this game his agreement, plainly stated it was play at your own risk, I do NOT believe someone in his situation has any right to expect compensation for his loss.

He either learned something from this or he didn't, he will either continue to play, and steer clear of those that got him slaughtered in the first place or he won't.

And Vali this game is almost entirely composed of new players from my standpoint. I cannot think of more than one that "might" (it's got to be close) have more continous years in this game than I do.

A minor few have been around long enough that it seems they've been here forever, quite a bit have played, left and come back, but I cannot even recall all the people who started then quit because something didn't go thier way.

Do I care someone made a bad choice and when things went wrong that they quit?

No ... not really.

Come on, Yankee, there are all kinds of reasons why you wouldn't want to have the configuration of units you want to have at the start of the war sitting there all set up for days on end. Val has it right, people have different strategies, and the obvious solution is to have a game that works. Tricks and exploits are part of the charm of the game. Bugs, when unexpected, are not.

I had the same problem as our newer member, and excuse my rant, but it still pisses me off. You do a lot of preparation, many hours, in anticipation of "game day," and when on game day you can't play right it cuts at the whole value of the game.

Personally I tried much of what has been suggested, to no avail. A lot of things didn't work besides not being able to set up units. In general, many clickable things that open windows didn't function right. For example, clicking on a unit name from the target list did not tell what kind of unit it is. Something particular about my rig, I don't know. Everything seems to work fine now.

Danny should be compensated with game assets. For me it's the loss of time "invested" in the game that stings. And Ares, you should be mad too--you prepared for a fight, and didn't get one. Better luck next time bud.

Vali was whining about not being able to set up garrisons in the forums .. GARRISONS!!! ... some strategy. I have to wonder what this "Danny's" strategy was, I wouldn't be surprised if he signed the war treaty.

So what if someone sees how your targets are defended? That's why you keep a variety of weapons, countries and if necessary allies available to spoil specialized attacks.

Everyone has different strategies in this game and guess what, obviously this one didn't work. You'd be better off thinking about where it went wrong and how you'd deal with it next time.

FB is war world and to think anyone should be compensated for losing a war is silly.

The shallow end of the pool is over there (points to the secured country worlds)

Game works just fine for me Ares. As you well know ;-)
You are just blinded to the issue as you decided to dec on us (very mean!).
If you forget the war, and look at the issue itself. You would see a poor customer paying for a product that he lost part of because it didnt work.
Now if you go out and buy a car tomorrow I expect you would want the breaks to work. A bit late once you reach the traffic lights and discover you breaks dont work. But hey, luck was on your side!! Only the passenger side was taken out. You are still alive!! Dont bother going back to the car dealing and asking for a refund. Tough luck your breaks didnt work. My breaks work just fine as I checked them last week, so dont ask me to help. Go buy a new car, and if that want doesnt work, dont both telling the manufacturer. They dont care. As long as new drivers keep buying their faulty cars they dont care how many people die in their cars.

i'm not blinded by anything. You seem to be confused Vali. Whatever didn't work for Danny did not work for bobo. Whatever didn't work for Jojo didn't work for me either. It may not have worked, but it was an even playing field none the less. The problem was fixed, nothing else should be done. The exact circumstance you are speaking of was initiated by Danny, not by Bobo.

BTW Vali:

Thanks for letting me take out your whole fed's air defense from your c3 :)

Comparing faulty brakes on a car to a bug in an online game?

Some perspective would aid your argument, Vali.

As has been pointed out, there is a disclaimer in place to cover such eventualities and more pertinently, it was same for all players concerned.

Vali,

There have been glitches throughout the war on both sides. As a result, we have both incurred losses. The fact of war is that peeps will lose something. Danny should not have taken on more than he could chew. He was a noob going against an experienced player. Perhaps if he had spent less time spamming Bobo's ingame mail and paying more attention to his "war prep" he could have fired that much desired 1 shot on his part. (Not intended to sound mean).

I don't think anyone is trying to come across as heartless. They are just saying that it is as it is and are by no means downing your mate's loss. All games, from time to time, will have glitches. :-(

The war is not the problem. The problem is sim making careless changes that cost people real money. War brings the problems to a crunch. In peace time it is just a matter of waitimg for them to fix the problem. In war you may not get that chance.
In this case, Dans enjoyment of the game has been destroyed because he could not set up units so he could not play. A small token of gold coins from sim to acknowledge the problem has caused upset to players would not do the game any harm. Or even extend his membership a bit. Just a little token that sim messed up.
