What are some ideas you have as far as the Player community improving the simcountry gaming experience for newer players and veteran players within the bounds of the game and abilities we have available to us atm?

I'm just curious.

it would be better if new players could build an empire and see positive results from their efforts rather than either having to build an empire with their plastic or sit and watch grass grow. i don't know what it's like on other worlds but kb is dead, dead ,dead.

Everything I am coming up with is a game modification requiring GM intervention.

I've seen online games with built in 'niceness' incentives. In SC it would be things like a top 100's for: Friendliest Country, Most Aggressive Country, Fastest Growth, Most aid/Most helpful, Most revered, Most Hated... etc.

Hey, in the past, it's had me offering disaster relief for no other reason than climbing in the ranks in that ranking system.

Maybe there should be a Friends/Enemies list for our countries and then certain things on the list are scored for the community to compete.

I have seen the concept work.

I imagine a system where there are multiple ranking boards, one for presidents and one for countries one for the military etc.

Try to offer advice to new people. I know its hard to take the time in chat and deal with all the questions. But how are they going to learn the game enough to see that its fun to play. Telling them to go read those outdated game docs will only make them just wanna give up. Also accepting new players into feds can help. It will give them a chance to ask thier fed members for advice. Show them the social side of the game. Help them expand thier empires so that they can grow to become better players.

It seems to me there's a thousand "glitches" in the game, and experienced player have developed "work arounds" that are usually more laborious than a well developed game should be. I think we should encourage W3C to work on these problems, rather than things such a space stations.

Easy now.

Don't talk bad about the GM on Wendys thread or you'll "get a nuke shoved up your arses". :)

Honestly other than helping new players. Which I have and continue to do from time to time. Without the GM at least tweaking, or god forbid finishing some existing features. I don't really see any way for the players to make this game any better.

We can make suggestions and polls but honestly. Even if they do get accepted it will be years until they are implemented.

Not casting any blame.

Just saying. :(

I'd love to see some actual Diplomacy Options, as well as more ways to interact with other nations besides just trade and messages. I'd like to see the UN with some teeth. Along with "Peacekeeping forces" that could be Utilized. I'd like an honor system that ranks if a player is Honorable or Less than Honorable. Sadly, the GMs are eternally behind, only partially implement things that haven't been properly tested in a sandbox before being let loose in the live system, so I'd say, get it right first, and then work on "improvements".

Wendy very specifically asked about what "the Player community" can do, not the GMs.

I think it's about respect. I accord it to vets and newbs alike (until someone proves they are not worthy) and everything that goes with it such as advice, courtesy and friendliness. My hope is that, as a result, everyone else enjoys playing the game as much as I do.

But we have to remember that this is a power and status game. It's not surprising that it also attracts people who do the opposite, who stomp on, ridicule and disrespect others to make themselves feel bigger. That sort of behaviour is what spoils the game IMHO ... for newbs at least.

Other than respect, can other players improve the game for vets? Occasionally a negative n00b turns up and decides to throw a nuke or two at me, or attacks me with his 10 Precision Bombers. That improves the game for me briefly :)

Hugs and respect

Jo

I like how we all have tunnel vision when it comes to the GM.

I guess if you feel this powerless to do anything of your own accord, you may as well quit.

Should we ask them to log in and manage our empires during inactivity as well. How about paying for next year while we are at it.

All these ideas for the GM to consider seem good, and I am sure we can do better. But seriously, the question was what can players do.

There is much helping, and credit goes out to those who do help. There is however only a tight few who help publicly and don't save it for feds or CMs.

I think Solomon touched on something useful. Awhile back there were a few players who did alot of stat tracking apart from what the game provided. It was fun, and will be missed. Alot of people still ask for those stats to come out.

For those who managed to stay on topic thx and please I need more ideers.

I think the best way to help new people is to offer advice patiently, bid generously on their coins and if they wish to learn the war engine seek out an inactive and help them take it. The best way to improve this experience is to make it fun, its fun to succeed so help a new person succeed in whatever they are trying for. I do miss the stats too, its been forever since i have been listed in them but hopefully someday I'll be up there again.

Thanks Parsifal, I really miss Ameche, there is a comedic value no longer present in the game. I don't miss the most colorful of his posts. But it kind of made who he was. It was never anything too serious. I am not happy that he quit for good. I'm just glad he credited the game and not me for his departure.

I try to keep a better attitude towards players and games. Despite what you all may think, I learned a ton from those experiences. I find the game quite boring without an arch rival. LoL\

I'm sure he is around still but less of a meanie. At least that is what I hear.

Ok... what we can do ourselves...

3rd party websites, AKA fansites.

Now what to do with the 3rd party website? It's termed 3rd party obviously because it's not sponsored by Simcountry.

We could create our own United Nations and seat a General Assembly. Vote our own Security Council or do it by ranking. Everyone would be allowed a seat in the General Assembly. Create our own documentation and show the Tomster how it's done.

We can do these things if we can work together apart from federation teaming.

A player initiative? hmm

We the people of the CentauDos Galaxy have determined:

* to save succeeding generations from the scourge of Little Hitlers, which twice in our game time have brought untold sorrow to sims.

* to reaffirm faith in fundamental player respect, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and sims of countries, empires and federations large and small.

* to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of interplanetary law can be established apart from W3 Creative.

* to promote new player learning progress and better standards of play by providing a knowledge base for new players to draw upon.

AND FOR THESE ENDS

* to practice tolerance and live together in game with one another as good neighbors.
* to unite our strength to maintain fun and community.
* to employ a website for the promotion of the enjoyment and social advancement of all people.

WE HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS

Accordingly, our respective Governments, through representatives assembled in the forum of Simcountry, who have exhibited their full powers found to be in good and due form, have agreed to the present Charter of the United Nations and do hereby establish an interplanetary organization to be known as the United Nations.

I consider your part to be coming up with a kick ass site. maybe some graphics where the general assembly is layed out from above and we can click on seats to see who occupies them, find our own. that kind of stuff will take time and work and in reality it's worth more than $4 a month.

Solomon Grundy (Fearless Blue)

Sunday, October 18, 2009 - 04:58 am Click here to edit this post
Sure you can attack Robocop but first we will need some resolutions that we find him in violation of. lol

But before that we'll need a system of government.

I'm leaning towards the idea of the General Assembly having half the power and the Security council having the other half.

What I do not want to see is a straight up democracy. I do not believe it's in any of our interests for players to be able to completely change the organization into a machine for tyranny simply by rallying 51% of the members in order to do it.

It's structure and values should be fixed to become the framework through which democracy can operate safely. So, even though we will operate as a democracy in our decision making the organization itself is not subject to radical change by the voting. I think that once we determine what it is that we are creating that we set it up to stay the way we've created it.

Security council made up of the leaders from the top 6 federations in the galaxy the 7th seat being the Chairman who is elected from the General Assembly and has the same authority as the other 6, acting as the executive spokesman for the UN.

Voting on the Security Council would be an odd number to avoid deadlock.

@ Solomon

We are already doing much of what is being discussed here, with the security council on WG.

Should we include the existing security councils of each planet, into the galactic security council? Or maybe make it a 3rd branch?

I think this would help to keep some rotation and fresh perspective in the galactic security council.

Also we will need to work out a military branch on each planet, to enforce resolutions.

That is all I have at the moment.

Come on people!!!

Post your thoughts!!!

This could seriously add a whole new aspect to this game.

Solomon Grundy (Fearless Blue)

Sunday, October 18, 2009 - 08:12 pm Click here to edit this post
I would be more inclined to a 3rd branch if we are to elevate them for their in game accomplishment at all and I'm not convinced that we should. The GM has offered the reward for obtaining that specific council already, the dispersion of economic aid.

I would rather see military powerhouses in the UN security council rather than players that simply know how to score well and rating military prowess is not necessarily determined by military size.

I'm not so sure we should prepare this thing with teeth either. It might be a better idea to develop that on an 'as needed' basis. There are other options. The UN can sanction the use of force by one or several members with out actually fielding it's own military.

A favor from...

Nanna :)

Nanna, give MoP a chance to respond and anyone else in a timely manner, after he does will you do us the privilege of writing a UN article that forms the security council and conforms to what all of us are saying? Then we can come to agreement on it or discuss what changes each of us would like to see.

I'm thinking another perspective would help and that you'll be able to look at all of our posts and determine what it should look like.

So, would ya? huh? would ya? (tugs at Nanna)

The powers on the planetary SC go beyond simply dishing out financial aid.

They also have the power to enforce peace treaties and ban nukes.

The problem is, the GM never finished the feature. Therefore the resolutions must be enforced by the members of the SC, via boycotts or military intervention. Otherwise they are worthless.

This is what we have started to do on WG. Check out the thread "Enforcement of Security Council Resolutions (White Giant)" on the WG board.

So if the planetary SCs are left out and operate independently, I see problems arising in the future.

I feel that they should at least function as a local government and represent each planet on some level.

If it is only the six largest feds that have the power to bring things to the galactic SC, then isn't it just business as usual?

Solomon Grundy (Fearless Blue)

Monday, October 19, 2009 - 04:06 am Click here to edit this post
You've sold me on everything but the overwhelming size of the UNSC. It seems each planet has 15 members in it's 'local' security council, times 5, that's 75 seats!

How about, for the UNSC we reserve those seats for the #1 player from each world, giving us 5. -BRANCH 1

70 seats for the UN Senate. (the remaining members of each planet's SC #s 2-15) -BRANCH 2
~Should players that appear on more than one planet's SC control more than one seat of the UN Senate? Or, should those seats go to General Assembly election? (and branch one to Senate elections?)

Remaining Simcountry players in the UN General Assembly -BRANCH 3

Hmm, and divide the authority up 3 ways... with 2/3s voting margin in both the UN Senate and General Assembly? -of votes cast rather than two thirds of the seats?

Processing...

Thought:

The UN Security Council can put forth resolutions and proposals at will by majority vote. The Security Council is to enforce them with the approval of a 51% voting margin in both the Senate and the General Assembly.

The senate can put forth proposals like the UN Security Council with a 51% voting margin in the Senate and put forth resolutions with a 66% margin with veto option by the Security Council at 4/5 voting margin. Senate resolutions and proposals are approved and enforced by a 51% margin in the Assembly.

The General Assembly can put forth proposals to the UN Security Council with a 75% voting margin in the Assembly with further approval by 51% voting margin in the Senate. The General Assembly can not levy resolutions, though they can be proposed.

This gives the Senators a little more power as they can block proposals coming from the General Assembly and keeps the masses from overwhelming the top with the 75% margin.
