I've just started but it seems that if you have a few real dollars you can buy your way to Power pretty quick here in Sim Country. Tell me I'm wrong. I want to be wrong.

Without know how, your real dollars will quickly vanish.

With know how, you need very little real money.

If you do not expand your empire and use your Award GC to build up your secured main, you can quickly build an empire that pays for itself. Except, of course, for your monthly fee which is about $4/month.

Find somebody on GR that can coach you into building a strong economy.

There have been many that have come along thinking that simply turning real cash into sim cash and then loading up with weapons and ammo would give them power, only to find out that it instead made them a target. Vast sums of resources will put up a nice show on your country page but for those who have been around a while and know their way around the war engine, it's little more than cheap loot.

Do yourself a favor and develop slowly, level up to at least level 10 and while doing so you'll earn nice GC awards without having to spend a dime as well as learn a lot about the game and how to play. Study the empires of the top ranked players out there, finances first, then military.

Good luck,
WB

My country name is "CW of Medinat". My GR world rank is 60th, which ain't bad I guess, but I have much to learn.

Alright, your points are valid. However, if there are two equally skilled players vying for power. The one that has more real dollar money will do better. No?

Just read your post, whiteboy. Thanks for the advice and good luck wishes... I'll need it!

If they're both poorly skilled, they'll both probably do poorly, regardless.

If they both read the documentation and approach the game logically and with some skill, they'll both get about as far. However, the one with more money will get there quite a bit faster.

However, most often, I see people dump money into the game, don't bother reading anything and assume that their large sums of money will solve all their problems. They start off with a small poorly managed country, dump a ton of population into it, which simply makes it a large poorly managed country.

Good management will get you much farther than an infusion of cash.

Alright, thanks Daelin. But get where? As in, "However, the one with more money will get THERE quite a bit faster." I presume you mean become successful in the game. But do you mean that, in general, once the good players get 'there' they do not compete against each other? Sorry to keep harping on this point, but it's important to me. Again, of course, I appreciate all of your feedback on this.

"There" is whatever objective you're playing towards. I enjoy playing towards the economic, leveling, and score aspects of the game. As such, "there" for me is reflected by countries with high income, high level, and high score. This can be counterproductive because factors necessary for a high level and high score, don't always translate to a high profit.

We all compete against one another to some degree. Last month, it was my goal to be #1 for President for LU, KB, and FB. I didn't really have any competition for LU, but had some serious competition on KB and FB. In the end, I got #1 for LU and FB, and #2 for KB (damn you, Green Starfish!). Whether or not the others I was competing against even knew I was competing against them is irrelevant to me.

Others enjoy having the biggest army or best managed army. You see frequent wars across the worlds with only the thinnest of justifications (not that a justification is REALLY needed). Many times, people with big armies want to face off against other people with big armies just because they want to see how well they do and that's the part of the game that interests them the most.

For them, getting "there" is having the largest army or most military assets or being able to fight the most people simultaneously to a stand-still.

It's all about what interests you the most.

I see, I see. Thanks for the insight from a top player's perspective. Is it then virtually impossible for a single individual to "conquer" a world, continent, or region (if one was so inclined)?

Well, Little Upsilon is the smallest world with only about 3500 countries. It's difficult to maintain a highly profitable empire with more than about 10 countries. Once you start going above that, the General Cost of Government costs start increasing dramatically.

Good to know. Government costs then are sort of a like SimCountry throttle governor once one gets above a certain number of countries. Got it. Much obliged.
