The fourth Jozi Chat of 2010 is scheduled on the 30th of October, a saturday, at 14:00/2PM UTC on TNN.

Jozi is the owner of Simcountry. He participates in these sessions to receive and comment on player input. So, if you would like to discuss and offer suggestions or report bugs in real time, this is the time to do so.

This meeting will take place at:
- New York: 10AM
- Los Angeles: 7AM
- London: 3PM
- Amsterdam: 4PM

This chat will happen on a IRC server and, as such, you will need an IRC client in order to be present. One of the clients you may use is mIRC or ChatZilla.

Once you have one of the client set-up, in the lower bar, type:
1. /server simnews.mine.nu
2. /join #jozichat

If you are having problems setting this up, you can use the webclient.

Countdown clock.
Time around world.

Hm I have 20 cargo shuttles. Is anyone opposed to being able to order bulk actions. Like loading all of them with a certain product instead of manually loading them one by one?

Yes, I don't see logs for the chat, I think LG is/was busy, he left chat fast after the chat yesterday. Jozi said he agrees and already wanted to add that kind of function. In the meantime, the best possible suggestion should be given while we have time before they implement it.

My example is that shuttles operate similar to Cargo Planes. In one instance I want to... say load all of my shuttles with x product. Then another instance send them all to x location, instead of one by one.

An alternative, I think may be even better and proly server friendly is where I can input x amount of y product, and then send the product and quantity itself to a location/destination with the shuttles doing the running like cargo shuttles do for disaster supplies. An example would be send 10000 lbcmissiles from my space center to my space station or whatever other space center I want them sent to. Then the shuttles move them until the task is finished, hands off.

Just makes more sense to me. And my fingers, and my mouse, and my browser cache.

Oh, lets not forget that I can load 75 of any given large weapon type, then have to unload at 50 max. So I have to actually click twice per offload, per shuttle.

Weapons Transfer:

[16:46] (@Jozi) we intend to allow weapons transfers to your account and you will be able to move them back to another country.
[16:46] (@Jozi) this will make the direct transfer between countries in the empire obsolete.

Am I reading this upgrade correctly. We will be able to move our weapons to our direct account?
So this will allow us to move weapons between worlds and bypass the space game.

Will this also include moving weapons from our CEO to the direct account?

Depending on the products, some will be transported using shuttles.
we will make sure that large transports can be automated before we add these products to the space trading.

Just a thought. This transfering of weapons between worlds could give an unfair war advantage to multi-world players over single world players.

Picture this: Two players matchup evenly on WG world, with both being @ war level 4... One player has multi-world armies and the second player only plays on WG. Now add to the mix the multi-world players fleet of space shuttles filled with weapons and the war could become a complete mismatch.

I open the floor for comments.

Use war protection if you dont want war.

How many more times?

Its what its there for.

All this nonesense over war levels,it needs scrapping.

Easiest way to avoid war is....

1, use wp
2, leave the politics and mind games alone.
3, or build adequate defences.

= no mismatch

Yoda,

This is not a WP issue.

The example is two war oriented players at level four. (Not me)

"3. or build adequate defense"
The example I bring up assumes the WG only player has adequate defenses when matched against his/her opponent on a one world basis. The mismatch comes from the multi-worlds players fleet of space shuttles filled with weapons.

The choice and/or ability to play one or more planets is still up to the player. They can change their minds at their own discretion.

For a non war player Maestro, you have some very strong opinions on war. I think you need to get in the fight to give weight to your opinions.

Wendy,

I've played many wargames. Just not here.

Yoda,
I bring up an example how a fair fight can turn into a mismatch. Why are you bringing up econ in this discussion?

More important: Where are all the new players voicing their opinions?

Psycho_Honey (Little Upsilon)

A fair economy runs a country and finances any war machine Maestro. You cannot be a warlord and fight without mastering economy first. I know the last war I had with Serpent cost us both possibly 30 - 50 trillion or more each in Weapons and ammunition.

What BlueSerpent is trying to say is if you run a good economy, you can purchase weapons you need and that includes defense. If you run a good economy you can offset the cost of running a very large army. We've had conversations where he was %80-100 active military with huge garrisons and bazzillions of air defense yet still turning a double digit profit. Everything you need to play simcountry is available to you if you take the time to learn and build properly. There is a time when laziness can't be substituted for ignorance. If you don't want to put in the effort, you deserve to lose or not fight wars at all. And even then, you can run a crappy economy and earn enough to pay for war protection for up to 9 nations with relative ease.

As long as a player can choose to play one world or more than one world, you cannot say a fight isn't fair. If you run a good economy, you will be able to afford other worlds and pay for them without swiping your card and buying ridiculous sums of gold coins.

To answer your question, economy is brought up in the discussion because it is the baseline for everything else the game offers. New players are proly busy learning how to play, and not interested in the conversation.

But this still misses the point. The example is two equal opponents on one world where one also has the weapons added from a second world coming in to tip the scale.

Why keep bringing in ecomomics. The players are equals on the world where the war will be fought.

Look at Germany in World War 1. If the United States doesn't enter the war, the war would have ended in a stalemate. Now add the United States into the mix and Germany is defeated.

Scarlet,

I've been quite for most of the discussion on the wargame updates. They don't effect me.

But the few times I make a comment, you veterans jump all over me.

This board should be free to all to give an opinion, even from an econ player.

The example I bring up is very real and relevant to the wargame discussion.

A pretty bad player? As a war player Yes. As an econ player maybe not but I will continue to voice my opinion on this board.

And I hope many more players will do the same. New and old players.

You don't understand the extent to which your example is irrelevant. If you understood precisely how vast your ignorance of the subject was, you'd realize your fears are baseless. You can voice your opinion all you like, but that doesn't mean your opinion means anything.

There are no new players to post their opinions due to your whining and the whining of people like you.

Yes, I'm aware you aren't a war player. Yes, I was referencing your econ abilities. For someone identified as an econ player, you run a pretty bad economy... much like SuperSoldierRCP. All this whining is an excuse for your incompetence as a player. WP is cheap. Managing workers is easy. Running profitable corps is mindless.

You want to fight about it? Oh, wait...

EDIT:

As far as the Church site is concerned, I don't monitor hits except two or three times. As far as I know, 15 people have visited it in the last six months.

Don't encourage him. He is being cynical. Why attempt to effect something that has no effect on you? He admits himself that the changes and or war game doesn't affect him. So why doesn't he shut up and play his game? There is always a hidden agenda. It is usually too late when you find out what it is, or his agenda is in this example.

As much as Scarlet and I differ on many things, he is completely right on this.

Wendy,

It's not a lie. Along with the church site I usually send the Tatoo Priest site.

(Both sent as ingame messages to the new player, not in the chatroom)

One of the first players was a player named Decimes on WG back around April or May. He used the site as a guide to take three C3's.

I forget his name(Country name Seville on WG), another player in Barcelona Spain also took three c3's using the site as a guide.

I know you remember Jethro from LU. (I gave him the links) He had some real fun with the game on the war side.

Jozi chat or any public chat seems to make people shutter. Anything you say can and WILL be used against you. Anytime anyone makes a public comment they are subjecting themselves to public opinion whether good or bad. As mature adults we should be able to hear differences of opinion without having to "stomp" it out. Is it possible to agree to disagree sometimes? As for new players, there aren't any new players cuz who in their right mind has enough time and money to establish themselves on SC? I've been a member for working on a year now and am still confused half the time. Where are we coming from today people!! Plus, it's pretty scary once you realize how many "players" actually have enough influence to change the game rules as they need to. It kinda reminds you it doesn't matter how much you learn cuz it's all subject to change on an "as needed" basis to keep special players on the top. There is so much conflict of interest going on with people who personally know the GM out here playing against us who have blind folds on that you really get a taste of what seems like corruption and you don't wanna waste anymore time guessing. New players see that pretty fast and then SC feels like a gimmic and they roll their eyes and quit. This isn't my game so I can't make any changes either way and as a player I feel I shouldn't be able to make changes. Where's the challenge when all you gotta do is have a talk with the GM and the rules get changed in your favor? I think everyone should just send all their gold coins to ME..deposit them directly into my account and if you don't I'm WRITING THE GM!! haha

You are missing the point. All of them.

We are listening to players, whether they know it or not. we have always read the bits on the forum that gave us good response and info on what was working and what was not working. sometimes we were too busy and missed some.

we listen during the chats of course and we would like to see more response and are not afraid of hard talk.

but we are not making any features for one player or another. The truth is, we do not know who is in which fed and who is fighting or not.
we have no clue.

we are too busy with the game and with some other work that pays for the the time we spend on the game. too busy in fact. we should have much more time to work on Simcountry.

Most times I don't see the names when I response. Someone here mails me a large chunk of text and I read and decide to response or not to. Jozi sees none of the names.

we have no special relations with players and we listen to all. we cannot have our likes and dislikes and many will tell you, that they got a very detailed mail response following nasty bad worded attacks on us and on others.

the reasons are:
1. we don't know who is who and the mail addresses are not the same as the names on the forum.
2. we don't want to know.

Laguna is currently the moderator. He has done great work and we hope he will continue to do so if time allows and we are thankful for his help also on the chat.
you all know his opinions on some of the features. He contributes short messages, many times without any ideas on how to improve.
it is obvious that he has no special influence on the game.

We do get detailed descriptions of real bugs from time to time and we are thankful for that and we fix them all.
No special relation. ask Laguna.

On the advise we get, and ideas on the forum

we have found many good ideas here and implemented many.
we never implemented anything we thought was not good and never capitulated to anything.

we will keep making features only if we are convinced they are good.

the recent changes in the war game, that made war levels depend on the capacity of the war player to fight and win wars instead of depending on his capacity to purchase weapons, was born on the forum.

we have taken it, reformatted it to what we thought was the right thing to do and it is part of the game.

our first impression at the time was not good. then we discussed and decided to implement.

there are hundreds such cases and many more that were not implemented because we did not think they are beneficial for the game.

Simcountry was developed by our company and we had and have an idea of what it should be.
right or wrong, it is our game but we are eager to learn from anyone who is constructive.

Nukepana, I have to say that, as I got to know the game I emailed the GMs from time to time about issues I perceived. Some of them were taken on board. Others not. But the main sense I get of how the GMs react to what I have said to them is that they evaluate my opinions in terms of the game, not in terms of any perception of my 'influence' (or not). If it's valid, they take it on board. If it's not, they don't.

My point is that it's not down to 'who' you are, but to what you say to them. Probably the players who have been around longer are listened-to more. But that is because they know the game better and can make more balanced and informed points, not because they are 'someone'.

The player-base is different and it is true that there are a lot of personal opinions bandied about on the forum and in chat. A lot of players ... not all of them by any means, but a fair proportion ... react to a post or a comment, not on the basis of what is said, but on who is saying it. Call it human frailty, but please don't accuse the GMs of that foible. In my experience, they are very successful in focussing on content to the exclusion of personality.

Of course, I have been playing the game a lot longer that you and that will probably cause you to put my comments down to being one of the people who 'personally know the GM'. In fact, I don't, and I have emailed them very few times ... about 15 in total. But until you are experienced enough to email them yourself, with a valid analysis of how the game works and objective suggestions on how it might be improved, you are unlikely get a positive response. Because it's based on content.

It's a lot easier to blame nepotism than to take the time to learn the subtleties and make a positive contribution. I suggest you understand the positives before you start accusing people of the negatives.

Hugs and respect

Jo

As the "NEWBIE" that I am, when I try to make a comment about concerns I have I get the usual "stomp out"..."oh shut up you don't know know what yur talking about cuz I'm just better than you" responses. Is it now my turn to come up with something witty?? No wonder new players keep their mouths shut or quit. Nukepana, the system just as any other is dominated by those at the top. The problem is that those that aren't as in-game wealthy or powerful choose not to voice their opinion because they feel it isn't worth it just as many who do not vote in political elections for the same reason. Ultimately what those people have to realize is that they are the MAJORITY, not the minority and if they would voice their opinions, they may not be well received immediately but with numbers they would be listened to.

The problem with SC just as in real life, great/intelligent debates are easily manipulated by those who do not wish to relinquish power so those debates get hijacked by people who have no interest in rational debate but are great at creating drama which distracts.

Don't give up...if you make a point/post an opinion on the forum and you get BS attacks/manipulation, then just press on. If everyone does the same then we might actually be able accomplish something.

Laguna,

How thoughtful of you to express your need to say I was being "corrected". Speaks alot about how you see things. And to see your name was specifically mentioned by Tom. Are you two working as a team? And why would you need to point out how "wrong" I am? Are you trying to take away my credibility? Seems to me like yur trying to stomp out anything I might wanna say in the future. And yes the actions are speaking for themselves. I do not take back a single thing I said and I have no regrets. I spoke my mind honestly and still havn't seen any reason to change it but I am very open and definitely want to learn. I knew before making a post it would likely lead to snide remarks and verbal attacks. That's what always happens when someone speaks their own mind. But I hope others see what I'm being put through for speaking my mind. I said one comment days ago am spending several more days fighting off verbal attacks and denial comments. I suppose I should have learned my lesson by now to keep my mouth shut and not say a word.

Speaking Generally:

If I was so dead wrong then the ones who think they know better should have asked themselves why someone would say such a thing rather than trying to make the person look bad for speaking. When I reach "expert" levels in other things in life I tend to feel generous toward someone who wants to learn and asks questions or says things. I want to help them or teach them. Ever heard of starting with someone from where they're at rather than where you want them to be? Hopefully I've brought out some things that others will note as far as the forums are concerned and how some attitudes on here are.

WhiteBoy,

Thank you for your thoughtful and supportive comment. You are correct in everything you had to say. I do believe certain people involved in SC are on a power trip and refuse to admit when they are wrong and are terrified to relinquish any form of power or admit to any form of suggestion that might make them lose credibility. Most players wouldn't want to subject themselves to the combative attacks or denial comments I am directly receiving due to speaking out. I'm one of those types who get angry when I feel like the little guy is being picked on or a situation is being exploited unfairly and so I'm putting myself out there to take the heat on their behalf and hopefully they'll be inspired to speak their minds as well. You are also correct that the less in-game rich or powerful players do have to fight extra hard to be heard. Thank you for your inspirational comment about pressing on regardless of what obstacles they put in front of us. Hopefully other players will read this thread and feel inspired too.

L'etat simule, c'est moi.

Tom, Laguna, and Jozi are my puppets. Rest assured, I'll have you banned for your insolence soon.

EDIT:

Nukepana, you're being corrected because you are wrong. Tell me, who are the members of this SC aristocracy, this SC conspiracy? When has there ever been an audience rapt to hear the words of someone promoting mockeries of conspiracies and ignorance with fear-mongering? The little guy needs a voice!!! Who is this fabled little guy with a valuable opinion? The econ players and incompetent war players decided the future of the war engine by being the most active and numerous speakers with the cry, "It's not fair... THEY know what they're doing! We can't compete! GMs, equalize the playing field!"

And why would you need to point out how "wrong" I am? Are you trying to take away my credibility?

Far from me to do something you already so well achieve.

If you cannot accept the world for what it is, that lies with you. If you cannot accept divergence, that too lies with you.

Naturally, if someone makes a joke at your expense, you are better off laughing than steaming.

Laguna, I believe the appropriate response is: "Bah, humbug!"

Laguna,

Thanks for your advice: "Naturally, if someone makes a joke at your expense, you are better off laughing than steaming."

And yes I do laugh even if the joke's at my expense.

Actually Scarlet, it was all Whiteboy's fault, who was not War incompetent, nor an econ player. The problem is there are too many followers and not enough leaders.

I pointed out the Crisis of leadership more than a year ago on the LU thread. This is exactly why we don't have strong long lasting feds or solid up and coming new feds. Even your fed IDC is restricted to You WB and one or two others, basically.

Whiteboy and ZEBA, started the screaming, the bandwagoners jumped on, and got a surprise. Let's paint it how it really is. Econ players had absolutely nothing to do with the changes to the war engine. They were the scapegoat.

Econ players had about as much to do with the last round of changes as I had to do with WB and his lady friends attacking WGC. Let's get real here.

When do I get to join the Super-Secret-Special-Awesome Club? I've been playing long enough, haven't I? Why am I always on the outside of everything? Seriously guys.

Scarlet fever grips SC and I still don't get an invite! The largest federation on GR two years ago, the largest federation on LU currently... I've been called the fourth Pandemic. Everyone has the itch - and I still don't get an invite!

Audacious travesty!
