I posted this to the Suggestions and would like more general comment on the idea as well.

I think Simcountry should start running tournaments. I have floated this idea in a number of conversations and have found some real interest. The most enthusiastic support is for a war tournament based on the concepts behind the trillion credit squadron tournaments that used to be sponsored by GDW.

The basic idea is that each player receives a standard set of resources with witch to set up a country and its armed forces. The participants then fight until a winner is determined. During the course of my recent discussions the following preferences and understanding have emerged.

There is a general preference that the tournament be conducted as a scramble with everyone on the map and fighting whomever they please at the same time rather than as a series of individual wars.

There is a strong preference for teems rather than individuals.

Enthusiasm increased with the amount of recourses put forth as the standard position.

There is acceptance of the fact that an entrance fee will be required provided that a reasonable set of prizes are awarded to the winners. There is also acceptance that the countries and forces will exist only for the duration of the tournament.

I would suggest one or two tournaments a month with the top finishers being invited to participate in quarterly or annual championships.

We already had this idea, it was a battle royale world and it was promised although final details were never ironed out and along with so many other additions and implementations already, I doubt they would put a high priority on it right away. So we'd be lookin at maybe 2012 - 2013ish for a complete concept implementation.

It's too expensive for newer players - especially since they are encouraged to ignore war for the first few months. After those few months have past, they've had enough time to get to know and hate the rest of us enought to never want to team with us.
