Air Transport / Commercial Airports (Golden Rainbow)

I'm wondering if anyone could answer a query I have regarding commercial airports:

Does having commercial airports in one's country affect the economy in any way or does anyone know the purpose of them?

They help deploy more aid to other countries

They're just part of the Air Transport company. You can't have air transport without the airport. Funny how Air Transport is always in shortage. <_<
