Hi, this is Jan, formerly known as KissOfDeath, and I am appealing to the Sim Community to speak out on this issue and voice to the Game Master as to whether this should be tolerated within the game.

As all of you are aware, I have no respect for a certain player in this game - WildEyes/BaneSlayerAngel/BrokenAmbitions (whatever name you like to think of her as ). She and I have had an ongoing fight in this game for some time now, and there has been quite a bit of bashing/name calling and idiocy. I also know that my game behavior is not exempt, in light of me holding my friend's (Blueserpent) account 'hostage' because he and I had a fight over this very player and her implicating him in some nasty game antics.

However in spite of this, I think that threats in the chat room that goes outside the game should not be condoned and supported by this game nor its community, especially when it openly discloses where to locate someone in their real life. That is a violation of anyone's right to privacy and puts them in jeopardy of potential wrongdoing by any one. I realize this is a game and threats are made, I think I have threatened to nuke some peeps :S, but this individual took the time to research my place of employ, and to me that is concerning, in and of itself. Blueserpent told me he asked where the information was obtained and the information supposedly was obtained from research on my employer's website.

I have taken the opportunity to discuss the issue with some players in the game, and not to my surprise, those who play the game fairly said the action is UNCALLED for and should be reported to the GMs. Some of those who are aligned with WildEyes/BaneSlayerAngel/BrokenAmbitions such as Serpent, Keto, and another player, whom I don't know that well - Scarlet, formerly known as John Fire (don't know of his game alignment) find such an action as laughable and apparently justifiable and says the GMs will do nothing. I am hoping they are wrong.

A friend of mine, as a payback to the chat bashing I have sustained from WildEyes over the last year, and in light of her recent crap, went in to rile her up a bit. I have posted the conversation below. I made it somewhat PG :S and I did X out the name of my employer. He sent me the below convo and I emailed the following to the GM 2 weeks ago, and this is the only response I have received.

Subject: Online Threat Made by Player

Dear Game Master,

A friend of mine (who played the game over a year ago) went in to rag a player in the game who actually ran me out of your game. Sort of a payback for all her nasty play, and in-chat games, name calling. Any ways the conversation is below. Granted name calling is undignified, but threats to someone’s well being outside the game is going too far. I think this player needs to be reprimanded and something done. She has not only caused problems in the game, run off players, quite honestly, I don’t know what to think. I am going to consult an attorney to see what my legal rights are should I be harassed as a result of this player. Furthermore, I am concerned as to how she has the information to where I work, my IP address, etc. and furthermore putting in a public chat room details about my place of employ. I have grave concerns over this matter.

I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your reply.

Regards,
Jan

Perfect example of 'Spin'.

Did I ever say threats were 'acceptable' and 'justifiable'? Or..... did I say that things like threats happen online everyday, and there is not much anybody can do about it? Maybe you can go back in your chat logs, look and see, and correct your statement.

I don't mind if you quote me, cause I say what I mean and I mean what I say, but please make sure it is true.

Serpent, I believe you condone it by passing it off as a joke or inconsequential. Your failure to take a player to task, your fedmate, implies you support her behavior. So if you find this behavior wrong, then I would like for you to state so clearly here in this forum. There is something that can be done about it from a game standpoint. The Game Masters can take control of their game and take a stance on it. In my real life, legal action will ensue should something occur. So, my dear, yes, something can be done about it. :-) Oh and more accurately, I did not quote you or I would have used quotation marks. I paraphrased and summed it up.

Just so everyone isn't confused, I'm WildEyes and she is wild_eyes_wannabe.

If Jozi feels the need, he's welcome to ban me from chat/forums...

the issues with some players in the game..so it's a game chat, not a chat room, you quit the game, and now all you do is come in on about 100 different nicks and cause havoc with everyone...

When you aren't ruffling my fathers, I'm there helping new players, and answering questions. :)

Perhaps you should steal another account so you can actually play. :)

To correct a couple of her statements,

She is WildEyes and wild_eyes_wannabe is a friend of mine and not I. Good job, Jess. Another correction, I have ONLY caused havoc with you and have addressed only those who choose to get involved, such as Keto and Serpent. I have no issues with any other player in this game. I don't agree with how you play the game, but to each their own. But the issue I have, which I find valid is you violating my right to privacy. I believe I have a legitamate stance on that one.

So color coat it as you will. Your action was wrong.

Oh and lastly, I did not "steal" Rob's account. He gave me his PW a long time ago. So I find your word choice laughable. Had I wanted to steal anything, it would have been obtained for material gain as I had the account for more than 24 hours and access to it for about a year. He got it back untouched. Wanna know why? He and I were friends. You screwed with that. I got mad. Took it hostage as a joke. I was gonna return it same day but Bobo and I decided to let you loons get all in a tizzy about it, and you did. Rob knew I wasn't going to do anything. I told him. lol So more fool you, dear.

Oh, so now its no longer Serpent said 'this' or Serpent said 'that'... now it's a matter of how you 'interpret' what I said.

If you want me to state what I think about threats and such things that need to happen in chat... then here it is: (And you can quote me on this)

"1. I do not think its a good idea to make threats to anybody in this game.
2. I think that everybody should use appropriate language.
3. If you are in school and play this game, make sure its only done after your homework is completed, then you need to be in bed no later than 9:00pm so that you are not to tired to learn.
4. Although a little bit of trash talk is fun and can be enjoyable, don't take it to far.
5. If you hurt somebody's feelings then say 'I'm sorry'.
6. Always say please and Thank you when somebody offers you help or advice.
And by all means...
7. 'Love the Newbs' cause they are our future."

Those are just a few things I think should happen, do you agree?

How do you expect me to 'take a player to task'? You are correct to say that 'IF' something happens you can get a lawyer, but until that happens, there is nothing that can be done about it, even then prolly not.

But anyway... Im done with this drama....... Im ready for the next!

Lol, wrong or right..I couldn't care less. If you poke and prod at a Bull..you are going to get the horns, I vent on you maybe once every month or so, the rest of the month, is filled with snide remarks, unlike you, i dont get hung up on chat drama. It's a game. I could careless with how you feel about how I played/play the game.

Point and case: It's a game, a game in which you don't play anymore. Jozi is welcome to ban me from chat as I said if my actions aren't ' justified '

But then again, there is no plee for taking a friends account.. But as I said, right or wrong i couldn't care less.

Serpent, I said I did not quote you verbatim. If I had, there would have been quotation marks around that statement. I merely did as all writers do, summarize the outcome of a conversation.

I agree with all your points, 1 thru 7. Well said.

As for drama, nah, this isn't game related or for a dramatic effect. I'm dead serious about my complaint here. It should not be allowed to happen.

Jess, I'm sorry, I wouldn't expect you to say anything but. lol Furthermore, if you had been on ignore, you wouldn't have made such lovely conversation in response to my friend. :-)

Anyways, this is my last post. The issue is on the table. I'm not arguing it any more. I don't have to. Just think the GMs should clean up the chat and the forums and enforce the rules and regulations. Is that too much to ask???? Why does that upset you, Serpent and Keto??? Hmmmm perhaps because ya'll are the ones who abuse the game?????

As for whether you play the game or no? I don't care. But, I don't think this form of "play" should be tolerated. You want to call me names, threaten to kill me, my friends in game or whatever, FINE, but you have NO right to post my personal information in a public forum.

Oh I play the game. I have a country. :-) I look at it daily.

All my best,

Apparently this type of behavior is allowed, as the GMs don't even have the decency to reply to my complaint and apparently the Sim Community doesn't seem too concerned. As such, I am withdrawing from this game.

GMs, you need to clean up your game. I have never seen such poor management of an online game or the handling of complaints. Two weeks or more is ridiculous for a response. I'm still waiting to hear back. This puts forth the message that you are partial to certain players and "ignore" situations. Not a very good business practice. Furthermore, interesting that players know you by name. Most online games, the "owners" do not play or interact with the players, so to speak. Big potential for unfairness and conflicts of interest.

Just my thoughts. Wish you well. You lost a 4-year paying customer.

There are two issues here.

The first is the threats. Did they or did they not take place? It's very difficult for uninvolved players to be sure what actually happened. Jan posted a conversation from chat. Did it take place exactly as posted? Did she edit it? The only people who know for sure are the GMs ... assuming they log the traffic in that much detail. We, as players, can't know. Maybe even the GMs don't.

Secondly, a threat is a threat and an action is an action. Many people say silly things in the heat of the moment. Do they follow-through? Sometimes. Sometimes it's just a game of psychology ... who can intimidate the other the most. Sad that they need to, but unfortunately some people like to win status games by dragging the other person down, rather than building themselves up. Be that as it may, I'm in the UK and, here, the CPS tend to wait until someone actually does something before they will take action. In essence, there has to be a victim before someone can be prosecuted for a crime.

That's no help to the victim, of course.

All of which amounts to the fact that none of us can really comment on the rights or wrongs of this particular set of events. The only helpful suggestion I can make, the one thing that both 'sides' in this affair may benefit from taking on-board is: for heaven's sake ... it's a GAME. It's not real life. Anyone who can't separate the two, or who purposefully blurs them, needs a reality check.

Hugs and respect

I believe you all have missed the point entirely. I don't know who this girl is... whether her threats are just hot air or what. Personally, I think she is all hot air, but from my experiences, she's a nut job and that is what several players have told me, so I don't know what she is capable of or no. I don't know who she is outside this game. I don't know who anyone is outside this game, their character. I don't know that 5 months down the road something might result from this. Who knows.

My gripe is she had no right to post in a public forum the name of my workplace for anyone to have easy access to my real life. THAT is not public record, Pink Floyd (Soren), friend of WildEyes that you are. So by your argument, that gives me the right to take any one of your names, research you and post your private information in public chat. For example, I know Serpent's full name, the city he lives in, and the type of work he does. So what you are saying is by that, I can post his home address, home telephone number, place of employ in a game chat room? I don't think so. You are showing your stupidity here. So stop with your pathetic defense of someone who was wrong in her actions.

Furthermore, what you see in the copy/paste is the conversation. Of course, noone will ever know for sure, because the Game Masters refuse to address the issue, which is poor, in my opinion.

No, I don't take most of anything in this game serious. But, I do take issue with my place of employ being put out there without my approval. The ONLY thing I have taken personal in this game is this pathetic young girl's interference with a friendship of mine outside the game with her lies and chat games. But that is an issue that is between me and Blueserpent at this point, and I don't care to further discuss that topic.

The only thing I asked here was whether the sim community thinks it is acceptable that someone post private information in a public forum on another player. Simple question, deserving of a simple answer.

Where she got the information doesn't matter. She had no right to post it publicly. If I choose to do so, that is my right. All I know is this, my term of service is not listed on my website. I should know, because I write the content for my department.

I should hope that this transgression never happens during any player's time in this game. And Jo, here's the reality check, when the posting of my employer is done by another player, that kinda takes it out of the game mode, in my opinion, and puts it into the real world or into 'reality' as you say.

This is pretty much all I have to say on the subject. I will say, I am quite surprised by your stance on this issue, Jo, because I really took you for a level headed player with good sense.

Well BC, I think the Sim Community sees it as a joke. I however do not. You all just get a laugh over it, because you don't like me in the game, and that is okay. If it had happened to another player in this game, I'm sure your attitudes would be a lot different.

It really doesn't matter any more, because I'm dropping my complaint and have withdrawn from the game. No need for future posts for my benefit, for I won't be around to read them.

If someone knows your name, then they can google it.

If google turns up your personal information, then it is in all likelihood already in the public domain.

Your employer listing you on their website is an example of this. It's your own responsibility who knows what about you and what information is out there. Unless actual private information was accessed, nothing "wrong" occurred, and you're just being butthurt.

Have fun with your most recent withdrawal from the game. I'll see you when you come back.
