Kate looked just like the fairy princess this morning. i usually don't like stuff like that but it was a beautiful event--something to be celebrated by the whole world.

reminds me of my wedding...except i didn't have the uniform...or the trees...or the carriage...the little brides maids.

well hell, it wasn't anything like this morning.

Yes beautiful.

But was THE EVENT worth the 20M of taxpayers money that could have been used to stop people dying, support charities that have lost their subsidy or help poor kids get an education?

but how much did they make on the sale of plates, stamps, tourism and street vendors? i'll bet it was a net positive, not to mention making people around the world want to go to Britain and see Westminster, Buckingham etc.

I agree Parsifal. It was all positive.
Shame people have to try and find something negative.
Even on the news reports after, people were talking about racism?????????
Anyway...their charity will raise £20M easy with exposure from the wedding.

Sorry to be negative Nix, but I run a charity and we just lost our government subsidy because of austerity measures. I wish all the people making money out of plates and stamps would make donations to us and then I wouldn't have to make a whole load of very dedicated people redundant, not to mention denying a vital service to people who need it, but somehow I don't think the street vendors care.

Unfortunately we're also too small to be on William and Kate's list of good causes. Maybe that's why I don't see it as 100% positive. Only 1% of the money spent on the wedding would have kept us going for another decade ... and that's only one tiny part of the support that many people in the UK desperately needed and will no longer have.

Hugs and respect

A complete and utter waste of £35m of taxpayers money.

Hospital closures,Pensioners starving, millions unemployed, as Jo says, cutbacks here, there and everyhere.

Goverment lift hardly a finger to help the worse off.

And to top it all..."lets pay for a wedding" when the country is billions in debt and on its arse.

And while im at it...Bollocks to the income the tourists bring in.Bollocks to the roayal family.
Sit on their regal arses creaming the state and 99% of them do Bollock all for the money the get.

Take the 6m quid the queen gets and give it to the likes of deserving charities,to keep hospitals open.etc

The wedding was good for business. I'm sure the spending from local tourism in the UK paid for it.

I just can't wait to see the look on William's eyes when he sees Kate's son come out in seven months. Who's the father?

True, Parsifal. We work with kids at risk and people with physical and learning disabilities to help them learn to express themselves and give them confidence, as well as running a small community centre holding classes and activities at an affordable rate for those who aren't so well-off. Or we did do ... who knows what we will be able to do in the future.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the wedding and so did a lot of people needing a lift in these troubled times. I just wanted to put it in perspective. Wedding ok, timing bad. Nothing is ever 100% good (or bad, for that matter).

Hugs and respect

Why is it such a big f***ing deal? so a couple of royal losers in England got married, who cares? They think that they need to broadcast it around the world? Why not spend the money on something useful, like social security, or donate it to a hospital, or send it to a country in need? It's complete BS.

Parsifal (Kebir Blue)

so, do you Brits think that the royal family will pass on the crown to the next generation or will it be put to bed because it's of no further use?

Parsifal, I agree with Rob. I doubt it will happen in our lifetime.

There was an interesting comment recently, which made sense to me: America's national identity lies in the concept of freedom and liberty. But, for us Brits, it's rooted in castles and kings. If we lose the monarchy, we diminish our sense of national identity and for most people that would leave a big hole in their lives. So they don't want to see it happen, irrespective of the rights and wrongs of privilege.

Hugs and respect

As for the royal wedding, I think it, the monarchy has a certain romantic appeal to Americans. It portrays England's rich history. The wedding is like a fairytale. Plus, I think a lot of the interest is related to Princess Di. We in the states loved Diana.

I have to agree, however. The amounts of money spent for that wedding is ridiculous, when the economy is failing over there.... Maybe it did draw tourism, but still. It's all in appearances to me. And furthermore, it's over. Why is it still on my news???

"General discussion of the game"

This is the heading for this section. What does the royal wedding or for that matter much of what is said in this general section have to do with the game itself. NOTHING!

So there should be no problem with a little harmless pun tagged to a thread that has nothing to do with Simcountry.

And as far as my comment, it's a hot topic in my office. Is Kate already pregnant. (FYI I work for an English company with worldwide office included New York City)

As a matter of fact I'm coming out of retirement for a limited engagement this evening. A local Italian restaurant has karaoke this evening.

Not sure if my opener should be "Dark Side" or "Vehicle". These choices usually wet my whistle.

I may surprise the crowd with "Secret Agent Man" or possibly "Because the Night"

But perhaps I should stick to the British invasion with my selections. "Jumping Jack Flash" or "Painted Black" might do the trick to get the party started.
