Trade strategy keeps changing to country tanking settings

Started up a few days ago, got a country on Lu , went to war and won. When I set my strategy for trade and save the changes; come back having the trade strategy changed to sell 10% below market price and buy supplies 8% higher than market price. It keeps changing to this setting; every time. This seems deliberate by an evil gm or something. I played this game in the past; I know how to set settings. But it keeps changing to thoes settings and is tanking my country from day one. If you don't want me to come back, gm, just say so; don't play these games.

You have a 2 week initial period Nebak where the game presumes you know absolutely nothing about what you are doing. So it sets these parameters for you to prevent you crashing and burning at the offset. If you already know what you're doing, too bad, most newbs dont, and wreck their countries and restart 2 or 3 times.

Just wait out the 2 weeks and then turn off any automation you dont think will suit you.

And my advice would be to not start shouting at the GM until you know whats going on ;)

I see all these complaints about the auto-settings for new players constantly on the forums and my question is this:

Is there a screen that explains that the new account will have set parameters for the players' first two weeks? Do the new players have any warnings about this whatsoever?

If there is a explanation somewhere for the new players, a bunch of them are missing it.

I'm facing the same problem, bad settings in all my corporations, it's messing with the quality of the supplies as well.

Very annoying.

Indeed this game function to help new players should be optional. We have voiced our opinions several times on the matter, only to be shot down.

The beginners protection option does not always work allowing you to it turn off after that two week period either. Several players have noted that they were unable to turn it off here on the forums. Nothing has been done except us being told "it is to help new players and you have the option of turning it off after two weeks." This, after players saying they could not turn it off. Maybe this could be checked to ensure that the "turn off" is working properly.

Don't worry, this will only make you a stronger player.

I don't know if it will make me a stronger player when I'm nothing more than a spectator.

I'm not sure I can be bothered to sit around for two weeks and watch someone play my game for me.

Is the two week period a stand alone, or is it tied into game level as well? ie. the turning off of autmotic setting when a certain game level is reached?

Simcountry has many hundreds of functions and parameters and only about 5 to 10 of them are set in a way that partially prevents you from destroying the country while you are not aware of it.
all other parameters are free to use from day one.
The settings are excellent and help your country remain profitable.
many new players were destroying their countries and complaining to us. Now they don't.
You should indeed have the right to choose bad values for these parameters but we think that this should not happen in the first two weeks and would like to make it difficult to destroy the economy right away.

After two weeks, the protections parameters stay on but you can turn them off on the settings pages. You do need however to to go to the setting pages and turn them off. some players had some difficulty finding the page but it is on the menu and it works.

when you reach game level 4, the settings parameters are turned off anyway.

Even after all this, and despite advice given on log in, and many messages on the forum and in the game news, we do see complaints about failing economies blaming the game.
when we check, we find these basic parameters set to wrong values. when they fix them, the countries become profitable.

The beginners protection doesn't just help beginners, it helps quell multiplayers.

If people can't wait two weeks then they really shouldn't be playing this game in the first place.

Your not really playing the game though. It's being played for you. So what if you make a few mistakes in the first couple of weeks. Best way to learn.

If your intrested in the game you'll stick at it. If not you'll whine to the GM's about how hard it is.

I can see were the GM is coming from though but I wonder if these sort of players there pandering to will stay the distance. I mean who here ever contacted the GM's within the fisrt 2 weeks of playing.

I agree that the game is very complicated up front, and that protections are good so long as folks can understand them if they really do try.

Things that free up GM time, and make the game run more smoothly and well, are good.

I think it would serve the game well if, as someone above suggested, these protections, espectailly as regards to trade strategies, are clearly explained on the settings, and preferrably, on the corporations page.

Running corps is about all you can do as a new president, before weapons really become affordable, let alone war and conquering.

I contacted the GM in my first week. And I'm right glad the GM responded. One of the things that make this game great is the high level of support and the forum presence of the GM.

Good response to those who complain about the settings - get to level 4 and it's over.

Sylar,

Please read what I wrote before.
we are fixing 5 to 10 parameters out of hundreds.

you have plenty of things to change and you remain in position to destroy the economy.
Just start closing corporations and purchase weapons and ammunition as fast as you can.

we are setting some basic parameters in a way that will keep the monthly income and cost in balance and show the player a profitable financial page that makes some sense.

This might be remembered as an example for them when they start changing everything.

Many starters leave us because they see their countries losing money and cannot stop it.

Sorry Andy your right. I thought about it some more and I can see the benefits.

A new player has 2 weeks to work at getting there roads, school etc in place. After that they can fully concentrate on figuring out the econ side.

Ignore my previous post. This is a good thing. I guess im just a little frustrated because I know how to set my corps and cant.

Marshal Ney,

At game level 4 all these support functions are turned off automatically.
However, there is no need to wait until you are in game level 4. after two weeks, if not at game level 4 yet, you can go to the settings page and turn off all these support functions and you are on your own.

17th may and the leesh is off. Yipee. Im looking forward to seeing just how much more I can get from my country. If im honest its doing pretty well on the begginer settings.

Well im on my own. War levels are my only friend right now :)

Bucking for level 5 - they are off before the 2 weeks. Not to figure out all the stuff I missed by getting them turned off.... :P

I am having the same problem. I have the beginner’s protection off and I saved the setting. But the settings it keeps going back to is tanking my country; not preventing it from tanking. The country isn't going to last 2 weeks with the settings it putting on. I will be in epic dept and cant do anything about it.

I actually dont see a problem with it, I havent messed with the settings except for the secrecy ones and the ones that hide stuff but otherwise I am doing great. I dont see a problem with beginner settings at least these people give you a chance to play and screw up everything from day one and lose it all like some games

Beginners setting make economies run with good profits.
This is the best for beginners and should not be changed as long as you do not have a better understanding of the game.
