But even a category 1 storm can cause damage to homes, businesses, create flooding and cost people their lives. So I wouldn't call anyone a drama queen because they are being smart and taking precautions.

Yeah, the Mayor of NY only thought fit to close the subway, buses and trains, close schools, prioritise power to hospitals and evacuate 350,000 people, no big deal.

Lets hope your Grandma isn't one of the people the emergency services have to risk, and possibly lose, their lives to rescue.

Not looking for sympathy, but here in Ontario Canada, we are getting a brunt of that storm as well. Heavy rains and over 100KM/h winds

Forcast: Storm force winds, seas 25 to 37 feet on the Great Lakes.
Just before landfall the hurricane low pressure was recorded at 27.75 inches.....unheard of!

It is mind boggling! This is why people should heed warnings, no matter how silly or extreme it may seem.

Folks here in central PA were scrambling, since they predicted a direct hit and 50- to 70-mph winds, but all we got was a decent drenching. Not even any snow...

I feel for folks who took a big wallop from this storm - especially 6 million losing power. I know how tough that can be. Stay warm!

I do have to ask, though: why is there a compulsion to buy bottles of water, which are usually from municipal tap anyway, before a hurricane? Don't most people have tap and a few jugs and bottles lying around? And milk - seems like the stores always sell out of milk. Strange.

Hey Hoppy!

When I lived down along the Gulf Coast, we would fill milk jugs up with water, our bath tubs up with water as well, anything that we could find. Yeah that is funny about the milk. We do that in Tennessee over a flake of snow! :P
