All awards for March are now paid.

Award penalties were applied to all players who accepted their awards. (first place awards are accepted automatically). Players can now receive multiple awards in a single month.

When a player receives an award for a high rank as a president or an Enterprise CEO, the award is accompanied by an award penalty.
The penalty is intended as a way to reduce the score of high award winners and allow others to win awards in the following months. A similar system existed before that prevented multiple awards and did not allow high award winners to win in the following months.

The award penalty is 1000 score points for the first award, 300 score points for the second group of awards and 100 score points for the third group of awards. The numbers will probably change next month before becoming definitive.

The award penalty will become larger if the player accepts more awards. If awards are refused, the penalty for the refused awards will not apply.
If any award in any of the worlds is accepted, a penalty will be applied to all the countries and enterprises that are owned by the player in all the worlds.
The score penalty is reduced by 7 points each day and its influence on the score will wane in time.

I suggest that an automatic message be sent to the winners of first award, so they become aware that they received the prize.

I only knew because I read the forum.

I just got the #1 on KB for CEO and Empire and for those 2 the score of both is reduced by 2000, I can confirm that, but for my second CEO on KB the score is what it was before, no reduction.
The Score for the slaves are also reduced as intended.

Andy, I would suggest the Reduction of the score should also be linked to the GCs won or only the Highest award is to be automatically accepted. Reason is that when I compare that I win about twice as much GCs for the Empire #1 then for the CEO #1, thats a real big unequality if both of those awards give you the same score reduction.

True.
we also have a problem here. It is however easier to win a CEO award.

we will look more into it. this is why we have already said that the numbers will change next month.

When I compare prizes (talking about KB numbers) there is another big displacement w:
If you win first Prize you get about 2,3 GCs per day your score is reduced,
but if you win 2.-9. you get about 2,9 GCs per day your score is reduced.

Calculation: (GCs won)/(Score Reduction/7)

So if you win first you win less compared to what you win if you're 2.-9.

So when are the ones that were sent to the basement going to be freed?
I have been down in the 5900+ for my country since the end of December even though my main has a score of 2877 and my two CEOs are stuck down at 119 and 120.

your in-game documentation is not clear,
i refused a 32 gold award for my country as it said awards over 30 gold incur a penalty, and accepted an 18 gold for my enterprise as the in-game documentation said this did not incur a penalty.
have now received a score penalty on all countries and my enterprise.
very ordinary implementation...

My LU country, Last Bastion, was given a 1000 point penalty despite being in 3rd place at award time.

Also, my LU CEO Teddy Bears Picnic, got no award depite being ranked first place??

My 2nd CEO on LU, Teddys Picnic Basket, had its score bottomed out, even although it was ranked like 45 at award date.

Could you look into this please?

dboyd: should be released when your normal Dungenoneering should have ended, so if you got #1 Award Dezember thats 6 months from there on

claude: documentation is not up to date sadly, the Penalty in docs is from former Awards-structure, the Penalty you got is from new Awards-structure

Alright, this has been rattling around my head for a few days. Why is it a given that it is easier to win a CEO award?

Borg Queen

Thursday, April 4, 2013 - 10:30 am Click here to edit this post
Aries, I think thats cause there are less CEOs on a World then Empires. If I compare the 'top 200' CEOs on KB, which only consist of 77 CEOs, to the about 900 Empires its simply less Competetors (not talking about Competition)

Aries

Kebir is a good example. I started a country there in March 15th. At the end of the month, I was ranked in the 60s after a few weeks of play. If I had spent any of the gold coins I earned gaining game levels 2 and 3, to get a few million population, I likely would have won a monthly award.

On the enterprise side, KB appears to simply give out too many enterprise awards. You are right, only 77 CEOs there where on LU you will find 159. Why does KB hand out 15 awards to LUs 12?

The last CEO currently in prize position on KB has 90 corps and less than $30T in assets and would be good for exactly 44th place on LU. The last CEO currently in prize position on LU has 314 corps and over $125T in assets. I would say that this CEOs path wasn't any easier than the KB president currently ranked in position to get the rank 31 country award.

At the top, it is no different. My LU enterprise, hit with an 800 point penalty, would still coast to a first place prize on KB this month though I didn't win first last month on LU and I won't win first place this month.

Gamemaster, if the goal encouraging competition, please reward the major league of CEO competition that is found on LU with a more deserving reward scale.

The Problem is I guess that the Awards are not related to the number of CEOs but to the total number of players so more like the total number of presidents on a world

Crafty

Surely it's a matter of scale Aries. On KB there are far less players and corporations, hence not such a lively market and being a CEO is just as hard as anywhere, if not more so. Try it for yourself if you haven't already.

perhaps the easier awards for less populated worlds, can offer an incentive for players to sign up on other worlds.

The lack of presence of players on KB, of a "lively" market, does not make it more difficult to run a profitable enterprise. The most useful role players provide to help enterprises is raiding, which occurs on KB, and perhaps not for the reasons you think.

As far as scale, they are not far apart. 3,061 countries vs. 3,467 and about 60k corps vs. 80k.

It is far harder to find pres countries with suitable criteria I find Aries. Basically, that's the issue I was talking about. And I'm not sure where you get those numbers, from a download they may be right, from the W3C information given - completely unreliable.

I prefer to have my corps in C3 countries actually if they are not in my own.

The numbers are from W3C. No download. From the worlds page:

Little Upsilon - World Statistics
Total # of Countries 3,467
Countries with Presidents 1,580
Enterprises 151
Countries without a President 1,887
State Corporations 52,919
Private Corporations 27,911

Kebir Blue - World Statistics
Total # of Countries 3,061
Countries with Presidents 1,423
Enterprises 70
Countries without a President 1,638
State Corporations 51,498
Private Corporations 9,935

Is there any way we can see our current penalty?

I'm not seeing my score going up 7 points a day.

Also, how exactly is the penalty deducted by 7 points a day? Is there a single game month in a day the deduction is applied, or is it spread over the game months or other so such?

Teddy Bear

I agree Laguna, the whole process in unclear and unexplained. I am still waiting on a response from the GM on why I've lost 2000 points for getting a second place prize with my countries, and why my winning CEO is in the 'basement' even although its reduced score should still make it 10th.

In addition, my 2nd LU CEO, which didn't win anything, has also had a huge penalty applied to it, and sits at a score of 2

Borg Queen

Saturday, April 6, 2013 - 04:36 pm Click here to edit this post
well teddy, at least the thing with the second CEO I can tell you: The Score is reduced from every entity you got. So if you win first prize on LU Empire, that empire(and its slaves) gets 1000 decrease in score, as well as any other Empire(and their slaves) you may have on other worlds as well as all the CEOs you own. So its increasingly harder to get any awards while the score is reduced

Teddy Bear

So because my country came SECOND!, my 2 CEO's loose 1000 points each? and because my CEO came first, my other CEO and my country loose another 1000 points?

Thats just silly. SO Basically the actual function the game delivers is that a winner is completely out of the scoring zone for many real life months.

Seems exactly the same as the old system to me, except that its now completely unclear what my actual scores are.

My Winning CEO on LU is still in the 'dungeon' as well.

ok, I have now had it explained.

ANY award you receive for ANY Country or CEO on ANY world, will reduce ALL of your countries or CEO's scores on ALL worlds, right across the game.

I won 1 first place 1000
3 2nd-3rd places 300x3

Hence all my countries and all my CEO's on ALL worlds had their score reduced by 1900 points.

I now understand how the new process works, other than the basement still being active.

Thanks to the GM for explaining

Mine are as well.

It would appear that WC3 have an exercise to do involving removing all the old winners from the dungeon, with the correct time apportioned score penalties, as well as correcting this months winners.

I expect that this will be fairly complex, but if they don't sort it out before the next award date, then the awards will be wrong.

The old award system used to place you at the bottom of the best presidents list for the time your country was in the hall of fame.

The system is discontinued and does not place new winners at the bottom of the list but rather reduces their score.

The old system will however run for several more months for the presidents who won awards according to that system.

Someone who received the first place award in the months before the new system was implemented, will be able to participate in the new system six months after the last win.

Andy

There was a problem with CEOs who entered the hall of fame in the last month.
This is a remaining result from the old awards system that should have been eliminated.

The problem is now solved and the score will be restored within several hours.

This change in the awards system was very complex to implement because the old system could not be removed entirely but rather be allowed to run its course for several more months.

we think that the new system is more fair, will allow more players to win awards by reducing the score of recent winners and has increased the total number of awarded gold coins.

First award winners will have a lower score, for an extended period to prevent them from winning all the time and allow others to compete for high awards.

There are now very good reasons to compete and win.

The old system prevented first award winner from winning for 6 months.

In the new system the period depends on how good you are and how many awards you won. It will be 6 months or less for most winners but it can be much longer if you win a lot.

It will for sure, increase the number of different players who can win significant numbers of coins.

We intend to add a page that will provide more information on the score. It will specify several factors, including the score penaly, the number of points resulting from your game level and more.

Ok Andy, I can confirm my CEOs are now correctly ranked, thank you for correcting that.

But I still got 2 Questions:

1: Will the Score reduction stay at 1.: 1000 and the other awards 300?
Just wondering because as it was last month it is better to try and stay below 1. so to win more of the 300 awards then trying to get to 1. because you can receive more GCs from Awards that way.

2: Is it planed to keep the CEO Awards as they are right now?
I know its easier to compete for CEO Awards, but as you receive less GCs for the same Score reduction it makes it harder to compete Empire-wise. So in my opinion it would be better if you can also refuse 1. CEO award or if the Score Reduction would be related to the GC-Winning, like
10 GCs won - 100 Score Reduction
30 GCs won - 300 Score Reduction

It is not easier to compete for CEO awards on LU. I do strongly agree with linking score reduction directly with gold coins earned.

Andy

Tuesday, April 23, 2013 - 12:58 am Click here to edit this post
We think that the current score reduction numbers are too low.
We really need to allow more players to win the first awards and also the second group of awards.

the score reductions will be higher and recovery slower.

The number of gold coins will be similar to the previous month but as more countries and enterprises will have a reduced score, there will be more space for others to take a shot at the top.

We will not make it more complex than it is now and will not make other changes.
There are fewer CEOs than presidents which makes it easier to reach the top group.
Score reductions will be the same as for countries (empires). Gold coin awards will remain lower for CEOs than they are for presidents, as mentioned before these are easier to win.

Exact numbers will be published in the game news next week.
