I've been looking into country costs lately. Mine seem to be way higher than other comparable countries. I have examples here which I can't figure out.

This is my countries defence costs.

Number of Soldiers 337,067

Number of Officers 109,889

Total size of Defensive Staff 446,956

Year To Date cost of Purchasing Weapons and Ammo 1,022,853.96M SC$

Monthly Running Cost 29,069.00M SC$

Year To Date Running Cost 117,663.32M SC$

Expected Running Cost for the Year 352,989.97M SC$

(Now this is another country with a similar army.)

Number of Soldiers 364,325

Number of Officers 133,955

Total size of Defensive Staff 498,280

Year To Date cost of Purchasing Weapons and Ammo 16,081.02M SC$

Monthly Running Cost 14,576.87M SC$

Year To Date Running Cost 58,395.75M SC$

Expected Running Cost for the Year 175,187.24M SC$

The second example has a slightly bigger army then me but it's costs are half mine. His gov sals are double what mine are too?

Can anyone explain this? I have a much higher quality than him. Is that what's costing me double?

Another 1 of my countries. It's army is almost identical to the first example posted.

Number of Soldiers 336,170

Number of Officers 109,390

Total size of Defensive Staff 445,560

Year To Date cost of Purchasing Weapons and Ammo 221,809.11M SC$

Monthly Running Cost 31,074.11M SC$

Year To Date Running Cost 185,914.24M SC$

Expected Running Cost for the Year
557,742.72M SC$

My countries have the same gov sals, same army but this second example there's an 65B a year cost difference.

I am sure the GM has some convoluted explanation.

I don't know the exact reason but here are a few things that could explain it:

Gov salary: You said that yours was half that of him so i'm assuming that's not it

Quality of suplies bought: if you are buying max quality suplies (which I'm assuming because of the large difference in that area) and he is buying minimum quality then that could explain it. Don't forget that the buying of ammunition is a very large part of your armies running cost

You're being screwed: I doubt it because we all work withing the same parameters so there has to be 1 we're overlooking...

Perhaps a cutback on USO parties for the troops. Instead of inviting Miley Cyrus, Robert Plant, Taylor Swift, etc, hire local talent or impersonators to cut the expense.

As #1 said, military supplies, military services, gasoline, aircraft fuel, and the various base maintences add cost. not sure about the maintenence stuff, but with M serv, increasing quality increases the running costs.

also, i'm curious if their stuff is more defensive, more ground, airforce, or navy? this relatively equal size militray, does it have a higher or lower war rank?

I think it depends which sort of weapons you employ in the defence and of course the salaries. I know there is a country in KB which has no weapons whatsoever, but because he has 50+ defence bases his costs are moderately high as well as his defence ranking.
Though of course more explanation on this matter would be appreciated from the GM.

I believe some weapons / defense are cheaper than other to operate.

Stuff like stealth bombers, cost more in airforce maintenance than other.

The monthly running cost consist of ammo and "various maintenance" product.

You might have more expensive weapons thats it.

I have a different problem, there seem to be some "Phantom Expenses" in my country as I have an income of over 20B but cash seems to... whisk away... regardless... Hell I didn't even have to cut down on my military or anything really... The game did it itself. Yet no recovery. My welfare is still very high despite cutting down on Social Security Payments. Perhaps its the salaries...

things can take time to adjust, assuming thats not the case, check "Cash Changes - Year To Date" compare Materials Purchased, to Materials sold or used by Government, and Spending by the Population.

try setting your gov and corps salaries the same, and see what happens. also, you could have something set really high in your trade strategies, or you could be auto-buying upgrades. with upgrades, you might be auto-buying them, even if you don't have that set, all it takes is the country's need, (units upgrading,) w/o a supply. their are other factors, but that page should give you the basic info you need to look into

Ah, yes, the problem seems to be Materials... Specifically Medical Equipment. I have equalized salaries, lets see what results. Trade Strategies fine, and there are no units to upgrade. Concerning the Materials, how exactly is this issue solved.

Thanks for the reply guys. My Military supplies are all bought at 120 so it's not that. Our armies are almost the exact same, so is the war rank. I'm going to test things out for myself. I was just hoping someone would give me the easy answer :) Thx

Another question about costs. I'm looking around at some peoples health and education costs. Mine are sky high. But I'm seeing other countries with 100 mill pop with education costs of like 5B and pop contributions of 4B? How is this possible. Haven't been playing much lately. Have I missed something?

can you give a few names of countries with 100million+ pops and 5B health care costs?

I lowered my defense costs by making corporations that produce the military supplies they need and selling to my own country
