anyways, the only thing i really have to rail on, why are docking cost still so high? in the day, when you could spend a night raiding, convert GC, and buy as many docks as you want, 200GC, was stiff, but ok. now, its much more difficult.

space is a great feature, docking costs should be 30 for a dock, and equivalent rental. i'm seriously interested in why the GM maintain their price. all it takes is a little typing, to change prices

seriously, like an hours work, and space is a full on game

they started telling this story about some other guy that had been totally been beat up, and his story was he was jumped by 5 pissed indians behind the bar.

Josias - you are way too funny. On a serious note you have done more to make the space game viable than anyone. You are responsible for driving down the costs of space shuttles to where anyone can afford one. You have made high quality products available on the space station at an affordable price. The GM would do well to take your advice on cutting the costs of docks. I would buy one for 30 GC but not 200 GC. To me it is a win - win situation for everyone. There are a lot of empty space docks out there. Again Josias thank you breathing life into the space market.

Probably one of the tribes that don't own casinos. Hence the "pissed" part.

Back when I started playing SC again, I toyed with the idea of making my screen name "Dances With Debt." :P

And I'm in full agreement with Josias. The space game has much room for growth and needs to be easier to access for players. The dock costs and lease fees are keeping many away, and are holding back that growth. I've had a lot of fun with my Carina dock since I got it, but without being offered a generous deal on it as I was, I was likely not going to buy one. There are other docks on various stations I'd like to expand my trade into - and hopefully others get involved too to spice up the competition - but I don't see it happening as things stand now.

"Five pissed indians," was a corn fed white railroad tramp. That bar was mostly for the tramps, and homegaurd (homeless that don't ride the rails or hitchhike,) at the time i had a job and was moving in a positive direction, and was just hanging with a bunch of my tramp friends. and to answer the next question, i never road the rails or such. and this was in the 20ish year ago range.

But the tribes in that area are Modoc and Klamath. And they do have a casino. i would like to be clear, my story was not intended to label Indians in any such way. it was the play on words that was meant to be funny.

and my main question, in this thread is still valid.

currently, it costs about 20 US Dollars, to buy a dock. Isn't that a little stiff? just to be able to buy Conventional Missiles, but not Stealth Bombers?

I don't mind the way its set up, its just to expensive for most players. It has the ability to draw in money, so that players can purchase goods, (mostly weapons,) from space

To your point of space vs cost, its been a very long time since i rented any docs and never bought any that i can remember. i will have to play it a little more to make an informed opinion i do remember feeling thou that i wasnt gettin enough bang for my buck. ill be messing with it a little more in the days to come and try it out again..

The price was set at this level because it is a feature for experienced players and has some pretty extreme earning potential for those who are willing to take a risk and invest time into figuring out how to work the system.

A side note: adding more uses to the space game is an ongoing conversation and will hopefully lead to many more presidents venturing into space over time. Any suggestions are of course always welcome.

as long as i'm in story mode, let me tell you another one, true story.

I knew this girl that wanted to make cookies for her room mates. She followed the instructions, mixed the ingredients, turned on the oven, when she pulled the cookies out, she offer me one

"No, thanks," i said,
"What wrong with them?" she asked
"Their half baked."
"What?"
"Their raw, you should put them back in."

She considered that for a moment, then pointed out her room mates where guys, and they'd just be excited to have home made cookies. Later i asked her how the cookies went over, turned out they weren't impressed by half raw cookies.

If anything, it'd make sense to be able to buy a dock for cheap, but have limited trading space. If you want to increase trading space, you could buy additional area to "expand" your dock.

I meant to point out in my post that the earning potential of a dock is the reasoning behind its price. Future features are always on our mind but we didn't price the dock according to what may or may not happen in the future.

The idea of allowing people to buy a small dock for cheap and upgrading its size to max by investing more, is a good idea.

thats kinda my point, jonni, it has potential, but thats all it has. until the volume increases, it wont amount to much.

no one is gonna pay GC to sell, unless they are confident they'll make their money back. as it stands, their are only a handful of products that players are willing to buy. if the buy in was cheaper, more people would be interested in buying food, and industrial products, at a discount.

take a look at the Ceti volume, not really enough to justify the 400GC i've invested, but their is an actual demand!

other stations, like Toucan, and Pictor, could have some potential. Especially with an improve boycott system, forcing people to pay GC to feed their pop...

Libra, when you guys added that, you said it was to make space shuttle parts availible for every one. Because some players where buying up all the parts, grins devilishly and others couldn't buy any. So I invested in

As an aside, i'm not really interested in doing drones, NFP, or NH, but i'd bet they'd sell also.

Not sure about interceptors, and defensive helicopters, on Columba, i think i'm in a position to try. I've been wanting to do those for about a year, i'll probably try those next

Jonni, let me offer you a deal, i'm willing to put my money where my mouth is.

40 total Docks, 10 each on Pictor, Ceti, Columba, and Toucan.

Lower the price to 30, and i'll pay half the difference, 85GC each, times 40, is 3400 GC, you can subtract that from my account, then offer 10 Docks each on those 4 stations. and see what happens in the next 6 months.

We recently increased the storage space in docks by reducing the volume per product. There will be more changes like this in the near future.

We're considering making a second type of dock which will be smaller and go for a lower price, as to decrease the initial investment for someone who wants to venture into space.

Lastly, for the time being, renting a dock is pretty cheap. 5GC per real world month.
