Is there a page somewhere that will break down exactly what my defense spending is on? On the finance page, it says I am spending 35B on total defense cost. I have no troops, no weapons (except ammo), no garrisons, no units, no mobiles in the country. I have one defense, offense, and strategic military base and airport. I have a navy base. Most of my other countries have all of this (except maybe not the strategic base and airport). They all have total defense costs of 6-12B. I just can't figure out what else it could possibly be.

You can look at the recent purchases under trade and it will tell you what all you spent.

But I am not buying any weapons. Since I don't have weapons in the country, I don't use ammo, which would be the only automatic military purchase my country might make.
I did check there but I had nothing military. Under the spending tab on the finance page, I had about 4B total in spending on military services and supplies. Even going through the cash log doesn't show me anything.

Without units, it shouldn't be ammo or gasoline. Have you double checked garrisons and their upgrades? No mobiles in the country? I'm not familiar with them, but are you sure you aren't supporting military units abroad? Not sure how you'd check on the mobiles.

There is a choice for mobiles under Army tab. I have no mobiles. Finally was able to disable units stationed abroad. I have double checked garrisons. At first, I was at 70B for defense spending but I had forgotten to disable my garrisons. I figured that would do it but it only cut it in half. I guess I am just going to have to assume this country has a high military cost just because.

I may have figured out one thing. I have almost 500,000 drafted soldiers. They are not returning to civilian jobs because my government pay was 350 while my corp pay was 300. I have changed this so maybe that will reduce my cost on defense. We will see

The number of drafted soldiers depends on the number of weapons and military facilities you have.

no facilities, (bases, airfields, fortifications, weapons, units etc. then no cost.

check under Army in the menu.
go to the defensive page, offensive page and the strategic pages and you will see the numbers of military facilities you have.

also check military units.

Here is a comparison of my 3 largest countries.

Prime:
Defense cost (from the finance page) 54B
# of soldiers: 739k
# of officers: 278k
I have one defense, offense, and strategic base and airport. I have a fleet command.
I several air units and a contingent of 50 int wings being upgraded. I have supply units, landing forces, and air tranposrt units to support all of this.
My govt salary index is 320.

Camp:
Defense cost 17B.
# of soldiers: 345k
# of officers: 110k
I have no units in this country.
I have defense, offense airport and base. I have no strategic bases or fleet command.
The govt salary index is 320.

Giant:
Defense cost: 38B
# of soldiers: 442k
# of officers: 143k
I have NO units, no garrisons, no troops at all in the country.
I have a defense, offense, and strategic airport and base. I have a fleet command. (This is exactly the same as prime).
The govt salary index is 295.

As you can see, the difference between Camp and Giant is 20B per month and the only actual difference is the strategic bases and fleet command. Do they cost 20B per month to have?
Prime has about 60-65 units plus an additional 40-50 units for support roles with the exact same base structure as Giant, and it's cost is only 20B more than Giant.
I can't see where the defense spending is going in Giant. It has been this way for months and the finance page does not offer a good enough break down for me to see the costs. I don't know where I can look. All of the other countries in my empire run 8-17B a month on the defense line and they all are set up similarly to Giant (mostly minus the strat bases and fleet command).

The cost of the army is partially salaries but much of it is the maintenance of the weapon systems.
Each weapon, and the units, use materials like gasoline, aircraft fuel and services, military services and military supplies.

Prices of all these materials depend on the price of the products.

The number of bases, defense fortifications etc. all count.

This computations is as old as the game and we have checked and rechecked it many times. It is correct.

The only thing I can think of to improve it, is to show the details. There are however thousands of details, each weapon, each piece of ammo used in training, each truck used in units and supply units, too many details.

we do however log everything you purchase and you can see differences in the price of products, ammo purchases, etc.

Differences in quality of ammo used, materials used can also make a large difference.

What I have been saying is that I have NO WEAPONS in this country (Nevrondona Giant). I should not have the maintenance costs. I do have ammo in the country but that by itself does not incur maintenance. I suppose the difference could be the strategic airport, strategic base, and fleet command but this seems like a big difference for those 3 things. I will strip all the weapons from Prime for a better comparison since it has the same base structure as Giant. Prime has about 125 weapon units though and support units for them all so I think I will find its defense cost drops dramatically when I move them all out.

I have the same three bases, no weapons or units of any kind.

Mine runs 112M a month.

Just as a comparison.

I have moved many of the weapons from Prime and it is already lower than Giant in defense spending but I still have mobile units in it and interceptors in it.
