Hello guys. It is Zen, so I just bought everything needed to build my first pc( was about 700 into the pc itself and 300 in the monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse )I even bought an SSD along with a normal hard drive and a few extra RAM cards. Will take a week or two to ship.

Some things I'd like to know what would be a good cheap anti-virus software that I should use, unless I get one for free.

You see, I am a console gamer. Simcountry is the only PC game I play because well I don't need a gaming PC to play this game. I love strategy games and build it games like civilization, simcity, Total War, ect. I'll learn about more as I get into the PC world.

Would like some basic advice on what I should do after I boot my computer and where to go to start my PC adventure lol.

Informative responses get 10 trillion SC$ :3

Hello there,

Welcome to the right side of the force ;)

You can ask 10 people what good free software is and get 10 different answers and the problem is that they are all (at least a little bit) rigt. A few things that are worth remembering.

Windows isn't bad.
Lets start with something that most people are going to disagree with. Windows has it flaws and at times those flaws are many but there isn't a single company in the world that has been able to get close to what microsoft has done with windows.
Windows 10 has several self diagnostic and trouble shooting programs. Use them. Yes yes program x and y is better then what windows offers but when you are just getting started start with the basics.

At the very least update windows to make sure that you have the latest drivers. If I got a nickle for every time that that solved peoples problems with a pc i would be a rich man.

If you install a (free) firewall and anti virus software don't forget to turn windows security center off. You don't need to go double dutch.

Don't pay for microsoft office subscriptions, just don't do it.

There are dozens of free firewalls and anti virus programs. A lot of people swear with a program called AVG. Personally I don't like it. I prefer a programme called COMODO. Nomather which one you pick here are a few basic guide lines:

- you probably don't need you virus scanner scanning 24/7. Unless you download an awefull lot of p**n. Change the settings to scanning downloads and do a full pc scan once a week.

- firewalls are nog just a feature they are you're life line vs all the evil crap out there. Don't go online without one unless you're a pro

- use google chrome and install add block this is one of those things you just have to do without asking questions. Just don't go and watch online anime without add block.

- pay for the games you play. The pirate bay is a great site but it's worth the few dollars so that we can keep on getting new games. Music and microsoft office on the other hand are a different matter.

Just my 2 cent.

I recommend Steam, its where i started my PC adventures a few months ago. It has almost every game and the mods to go along with them to chose from. Pirate bay is great, however its for people who know what their doing when it comes to getting things the less than the...recommended way ;)

-Like EdjeK said, use Google Chrome.

Steam is also where I get my games.... and I get to play my old games that I haven't touched in forever. Recently dusted off Civ5 because later this month Civ6 is coming out. This is an absolute MUST BUY for any pc gamer. Civilization is widely considered the best pc game of all time. I see you mentioned it above as well.
I would also agree about pirate bay. I would so much rather pay for a game and not have to worry about a free download ruining my computer. My computer is my work and my income and my way of communicating. I can't risk destroying it to save a few 10s of bucks.

Yes, I bought an i5 processor, was told that an i7 wasn't needed for gaming. I looked at a bunch of graphics cards but didn't know very well what I wanted so I got a MSI AMD Radeon RX 470 GAMING X 4GB graphics card along with the same company motherboard. I also bought a 480GB SSD and for now 1T normal hard drive. 8gb of ram.

I know what all of these things are, I just dont know what is good for my money or not. I already spent it so I'll have to deal with this lol.

I already have steam and some games bought on my current laptop but I have to play them at minimal settings and the frame rate is trash. There are a bunch of games I want that I can not play until I build my computer like warthunder, arma 2 and 3 with mods obviously, Total War:Shogun 2, Civ 6, Cities: Skylines, Company of Heroes ect ect. I watch a ton of youtube videos and friends who play these games. Hopefully I'll be able to play these games on high settings with good frames after I build my pc.

Of course, for simcountry... being able to do wars faster on simcountry with little to no lag.

Thanks for some of the information. I dont know much about antivirus software. As for how I am, I buy most of my games legally. Just music and videos no, but I use my phone for that. I'm not going to download music, p**n or anime videos on my computer, that's what my phone is for lol.

I heard of torrents as well, don't know much about how that stuff works. Just that you can hurt your computer if you use them if you're not careful. idk. I also will be using my computer for making money as well in the future, and for education. It's still an investment I believe will be worth it in the end not just an entertainment device.

Edjek, we will discuss payment later. I wasn't kidding about the 10T.

Cities Skylines is cool too. Sim City 4 is the best and with all the mods it is playable still. You just have to look for the mods. simtropolis has most of the best ones.
