W3C - Population growth in Simcountry

As you probably know, Simcountry has a soft limit for population growth.
This is done a long time ago to prevent population explosion.
The limit was around 110 to 120 millions, depending on several factors, mainly health care.

In all countries, as population increased, birth rates declined until a balance was reached and numbers stabilized.

Anyone who tried to increase the population by purchasing, experienced a decline of the population that ended at the same levels.
It happened because after a purchase of population, the birth rates declined a bit more and the population started to decline until it reached the balance as it was before the purchase.

Reaching 200 or 300 millions was virtually impossible. The birth rates were very small at those levels and the population declined quite fast.

we have now introduced an improved procedure that will change the way the population growth is managed.

Thank you Andy, i'm really excited to measure the impact of this change in the coming game years and to aim for the higher game levels in a more sustainable manner.

I would be interested in seeing how this plays out in the long term.

In the past I ran a country of 300m and that was fun.
Overall, I think it will be a good change!

We are already looking into it in details.

KB was upgraded yesterday and population in the 0-4 years group is already showing stabilization.

the other groups will continue as before for some time while the new process is slowly expanding to other age groups.

It will take time to see total numbers stabilizing.

I will upgrade the other 4 worlds when the month processing is completed.

It is ongoing in the 0-4 years old.

I was not able to upgrade last Friday.
will do it today, Sunday.

I see already that numbers in the 0-4 years old are stabilizing.
you can see that the decline is much slower than it was before (in countries with large population numbers), but the change is only in that group.

It will continue and spread to the next age groups but the process is as slow as aging.

In the long run, I think we will prevent steep declines in very high population countries.

Also, if you add population, the new numbers, currently mainly in the 0-4 years old group, will be largely preserved.

Andy,

I wanted to bring an issue to your attention.
Please check Melichor on LU for more information. I also have screenshots saved if need be in case you cannot see the current values.

Under my natural resource list last month it said I had:
Platinum 541,440 ton
Platinum 101,520 ton
Platinum 541,440 ton
Platinum 541,440 ton

I recently decided to do some play testing into the resource market to see their real production/profitability. I planned on building several corporations to use these as they seemed like extremely large deposits.

If you check the corporations that where just built in the country, the "real remaining resources" are VASTLY lower at: 31,000 / 63,000 / 73,000

I have to assume this is a huge oversight or protentional bug, otherwise a CEO/New president would feel extremely lied to.
I will wait to build any more mining corporations until I get a response as

Also,

Some additional information I forgot in the above post. Last month under my natural resource list last month it said I had four deposits of:
Platinum 541,440 ton
Platinum 101,520 ton
Platinum 541,440 ton
Platinum 541,440 ton

As of this month, I only have:
Platinum 101,520 ton
Platinum 541,440 ton
Platinum 541,440 ton

Not only did the deposits not provide "real numbers", but it seems upon building one of them completely disappeared.

Hi Supersoldier, only replying to your last msg. If I remember correctly: When you queue a mining corp to build, the deposit on the deposit list will disappear. I assume it is because it will be used. However if you cancel the build, the deposit will remain gone until next game month. I havent checked if the deposit number that disappears will correspond with the amount the newly built mining corp is given.

I think neutralsc is correct on the procedure.

in general, when a corporation is created, the amount of reserves is not changing at all.
it starts declining when the corporation is producing the materials.

I did not see any country or corporation name here and it is impossible to see how much resource there was before the corporation was created.

Nobody ever complained about disappearing resources.
we have never seen any such disappearing at all.

I have built a country with more than 120 resources.
nothing disappeared.

I am sure this is a mistaken observation, maybe a different country.

There are no transactions on these resource lists until a corporation is built or closed before the materials are depleted.

Back to population

In a country with a population of 500 million plus, where numbers declined quickly, I can now clearly see that the population in the 0-4 years old is stabilized.

There are small declines due to natural death.

the 4-8 years old group, keeps declining but at a slowing pace.

It will take a long time before more age groups will stabilize, but they will.

Increasing the population by exchange or purchasing, when numbers in the 0-4 years old group increase, these increased numbers will remain and seed other population groups at higher levels.
