What is the point of being able to buy nuclear power

If nuclear power is converted into electric power when it is sold, what is the point of being able to buy or sell nuclear power? From a trade point of view, I love being able to buy nuclear power on the world market for a max of roughly 23,000 and then sell it as electric power for roughly 42,000. However, I don't see what the point of that is other than making those who don't buy their own nuclear power (to later sell as electric power) to look like chumps.

I guess a better question would be: Why don't nuclear plants just produce electric power instead of nuclear power?

Seriously though. I think it is just the way they went about balancing nuclear power. It could just increase power generated to match the cost.

My question is: Does it really matter? Does it really impact gameplay in anyway?

It might not be how real life is but drop a nuke on a city and tell me its realistic. Some things are catered to gameplay purpose and may not reflect real life.

It is true.
There are several reasons against it. The first is lack of transparency. When separated, producers can see what they produce and they can see the separate markets and have the incentive to produce one type or another.

Another reason is that we have the intention of adding wind energy to the mix, and then the separation becomes even more of an issue and it will allow us to create incentives for the production of emission free energy.

Producing electric power with gas or coal and the corresponding CO2 emissions could be a good addition.

It becomes even more complex if we want to add more renewables and create a more sophisticated energy game.

All this convinced us at the time to keep the production separated.
