I wouldn't bother. Even if you had them you probably couldn't get the wind turbines that you need for their maintenance. So you'd have to make those, and for the number of corps and workers you'd have to devote to that endeavor you might as well just build nuclear power.

Here on LU Wind Turbines are pretty plentiful, but the Wind Farms themselves are in such extreme long term shortage that the only way to get any is to make your own Wind Farm Corporation, and then contract it's production to your country.

It's unlikely the Wind Farm shortage will improve, the corporations making Wind farms barely make a profit even at max price. Their Material costs are simply too high, and the downgrade in price received for quality when selling on the world market wipes out any profit players would make producing them.

The Wind Farm shortage makes Asset Maintenance Corporations almost non-viable, disrupting the supply and demand of all inputs for that Corporation type. Hopefully Andy rebalances Wind Farm Corporations so that the market can function.

Daniel,

What do you mean by balancing wind farm corporations?
Is it their availability or profitability?

Andy,

Both really, there is an extreme shortage of over 35,000 wind farms on LU, production clearly can't keep up.

Additionally, most Wind Farm Corporations barely make money, because they have high material costs, but their profit margin percentage is small. That means that although they are theoretically profitable, that profit is wiped out by the market quality downgrade when selling to the global market.

Players won't make enough Wind Farms to supply the market when the corporations hardly make money.

Personally, I'd recommend raising the base output of Wind Farm Corporations, (without raising input requirements) to help solve both problems.

I found part of the problem. Atop player has wind farms but is using best price. company losing 67Bil a year. The other is wind turbines and wind farms are in fouled up countries with crazy high unemployment. keep your ed priorities in check. Turn the auto stuff off. When it starts getting bad slam into that category. Just put a 99 on that category. I at 150 health and education

Andy I think you should fix the profitbility of wind farm corps. They are not profitable enough how they should be

Mr Corleone,

I looked into the wind farms.

The main problem is the low production.
The corporation produces a little more than 1 wind farm each game year.

Corporations that produce less than 1 product a month are more complex and less stable.
They make losses most of the time and then a very large profit once in a couple of months.

We will slightly increase production, and also the product base price.
It will improve stability and profitability.

A large change is not possible. It will suddenly require many more wind turbines and increase instability.

Several small changes will probably resolve the problem.

yes I agree I tried stealth bombers it had a 2000 shortage. It never mad a profit in 2 years. The space market is pretty dead. Which is another one. The wind farm consumes 10 Bil a month. Stay away from thinks like this. carriers by far the worst.
space stuff, stealth bomber, airport and wind farms

There are ups and downs in many products.
Don't jump to conclusions.

Natural resource are very good for profits.
Nearly all of them turn high profits all the time.

A look into the market shortages and oversupply will show you which additional products have very large shortages.

Andy,

Thank you for looking into the balance of Wind Farm Corporations. I agree with your conclusions.

I would add that Asset Maintenance Corporations automatic ordering function adds to the shortage.

Currently Asset Maintenance Corps use 0.01 Wind Farm per month. This means that when they order 1 Wind Farm it's 100 months' supply. Then when the wind farms aren't delivered it places another order, every 9 to 40 months, depending on settings. This causes Asset Maintenance Corps to order far more wind farms than they can use.

When the orders finally get the top of the que and the wind farms get delivered, the amount of wind farms stored in the corporation goes above 120 months of supply, causing the extra wind farms to be lost. This is a major driver of shortages for Wind Farms on the world markets and causes Asset Maintenance Corps to make extreme loses when the extra wind farms are purchased and then lost.

Good point indeed.
I never realized.
not sure anything gets lost but it is not a good sequence of ordering and using products.

we hate to program exceptions but we will think about a solution.

Here is a possible one:
corporations should not automatically order any product quantity, that when delivered, will increase the corporation stock above what it needs for 120 months of production.

This will probably resolve the problem.

I will have it implemented.

I would argue to make wind farm corps to produce 2 per year to stabilize markets

A more natural solution, would be to bring the production of Wind Farms more in line with other corporations by, for instance, increasing production to 1 wind farm per month. Naturally, all other quantities would need to be increased by 10x and the base price slashed by 10 to have a neutral effect.

The upside would a more constant revenue stream and avoid limit cases as the one pointed by Daniel.
