Hint for beginners

Education priorities seem to be a commonly misunderstood feature for many beginners. Hopefully this will help some new players. First of all the total of all the numbers should always equal 120. Always! When I start a country the first thing I do is build as many schools and universities as fast as I can since educating professionals is key to keeping your economy running smoothly. To do this change the education priority for teachers and university teachers each to 60 and change the rest to zero. This setting is only temporary because leaving it there long would cause worker shortages in other professions. Check your country the next game month and you will see a large increase in the numbers of teachers being educated, order as many universities as you can and order as many schools and high schools as you can. Repeat the ordering process once or twice per real day till your education index gets up to 150, then change the priorities to these numbers from

I believe you will have to turn off education setup automation for this to work.

One thing to add to Aaron's informative post:

You will notice that schools, highschools and universities have their own separate indexes, separate from the main education index. You will want to aim to keep all 3 of the seperate indexes the same. The overall education index is taken from the lowest of these 3, so any higher index than that is a waste of your resources.

This is also true of the transport indexes.
