The question is how can I increase the performance of my funds, or rather the investment funds of my people. Or are my people just dumb?

Do I need to be active on the share market myself? That is something I have left for later.

The investment funds are profitable and very efficient when you have automatic buying and selling. It's difficult to get higher profits manually. But the share market is fun and will allow you to learn plenty about corps. It's worth at least experimenting with some manual buying and selling.

In your case:
Your fund has no investments at all. Cash does not accrue interest. The only way you'll see the fund grow is if the cash is invested in shares.
You probably switched off the automatic buying/selling of shares in your "country automation" settings.

In general:
Performance of the fund depends on how the share market is doing. Manually controlling the share portfolio of the investment fund can earn your more than letting it happen automatically but it does require time and effort.
