C3 war for empire expansion question

Can anyone give some hints for taking a C3 that you want to add to your empire?
I have taken one and it was really beat up when I moved in.

After you take out the defense and start painting, what are the best targets?

There are some tricks and such that can be employed to minimize loses, depending on the war level of the c3. Would you be interested in joining a federation that teaches these such subjects? Plus many others. We are mostly on Fearless Blue but will accept players on any planet. We are gathering a group of very respectable mentors that can help make the most out of the game depending on what playing style you choose.
