I would like to take control of a C3. It cost 333GC because of the resources. I don't need the mining corps and can't see spending that much for a 25M pop country.

If I invade I'll go to WL3 and need to set up a defense. I have no desire to become a warlord, I just want that country.

My 5 country empire is almost a 1000 years old. I wouldn't want to loose any of them, so I need a formidable defense. I looked around and couldn't find how many defensive units you need to make to accomplish this.

Could someone explain the number and types of units needed in each country to provide a defense that would deter any aggression.

Thanks,
Meliora on WG

No one knows, Andy keeps moving the goalposts. He is currently making defensive weapons weaker and offensive weapons stronger and no one knows what the outcome will look like.
Maybe you could join a fed?
It's highly unlikely you would be attacked anyway, pvp wars are basically non existent. There has been 4 serious pvp wars in the last 12 years that I know of. Someone might be along in a minute to correct me but I'm fairly confident that the best deterrent is staying active. If you go inactive, your countries are fair game.

This is probably ridiculous (and I don't know if it would be practical), but what if you did this:

Create or use a current enterprise. Set the hiring for new corporation to 10% (the lowest it'll go, I think). Then start new mining corporations in that country until it either runs out of workers or it runs out of resources. Presumably the game will then lower the cost of the country.

This is just an idea. I don't know if it would actually work, but you may be able to cram 30 or 40 low-staffed corporations into a country and drop its price by around 90 to 120 gold coins.

There isn't really an exact number. It looks like the game has changed quite a bit so I don't know how much stronger offense is than defense. I'm just going to briefly explain some defense stuff. The short answer is you can never have enough helicopters, interceptors or ammunition. So it depends on how paranoid you are and how much you want to spend.

When I was around, defense was a lot stronger than offense. One important thing to remember in Defense is what responds to what, and critically, how much of X responds to Y. Federations used to provide two other countries air defense in the event of an attack. This is called Federation Air Defense. Let's say there are three countries: Batavia, Country A and Country B. Country B is not in a Federation. If Batavia bombs country B a single interceptor/helicopter unit will respond with (lets say) 300 units. However, if Batavia bombs country A, instead of 300 units 900 units will respond in total. One unit from two responding countries that are in range.

Interceptors will defend air threats.
Helicopters will defend ground threats.
Ground based defense units act similarly if within distance.
You'll want to create garrison templates for nuclear defense on everything except fortifications.

All units need at least 330 quality if they're going to be worth spit.

Before my account went inactive and got deleted (That was a nice surprise, by the way. Make sure you don't forget to pay guys.) I had about half a million interceptors, maybe one hundred thousand helicopters and at least seven million in ammunition's for each. My goal was to have a few million interceptors, helicopters and large pools of ammunition's. My hoard was quite small compared to some. To give you an example of a hot war on WG, back during the Crusade against David we had to blow through 50-70K helicopters and at least 50k Interceptors. I'd have to hunt down the thread to see exactly what, but it was a lot. That was an unfederated country as well, so it should've been harder but it was isolated.

John,

There is no weakening of defensive weapons.
and no strengthening of offensive weapons what so ever.
I have no idea where it comes from.

some defensive air units became a bit smaller to give more power to the offensive units and improve the balance between offensive and defensive weapons.

also, we have made an effort recently to reduce the cost of maintaining the army by reducing the cost of ammunition, both defensive and offensive.

Now to your question;

Matthew gave you some good advise already.
defense used to be more powerful and remained more powerful.
It should be. The attacker should not have a little picnic destroying a country. It should be hard.

we do not know how many defense units are needed to deter any attack.
There is no absolute defense and a very powerful player could decide to invest trillions, run a long war and keep destroying defensive units at a very high cost.

Clearly, a very large number of defensive air units, plus many land units and garrisons defending all possible objects in the country, will make most players step back. Hundreds of them will make the life of the attacker very hard.

The number of units also depends on their quality.
If upgraded to a very high quality, they become very hard to defeat and the attacker will need many more units to attack.

If you want to stay out of war, don't build such an army.

purchasing the country will prove much cheaper.

Countries with natural resources can become very profitable while your empire does not need to get into the trouble of building a huge defense.
