Invisible units (Fearless Blue)

I checked the defense of a target with long range radar planes. Report said no weapons detected. This seemed odd so I checked again, still no defenses...So I attack, suprise suprise there are defenses. Why did my long range radar planes see them?

is it possible that the radar planes get shot down?because that happens to me a lot.
