What would you guys/gals say makes a good defence?

Ive been messing about with the garrison blueprints lately trying to work about how best to split my forces and defend my countries.

Recon on other countries trying to get some tips has shown me that nobody is running an active defence. Why is that btw?

My questions are these. Is it worth while defending towns, counties and corps?

Does an active air defence make it too costly to just shoot through and destroy these targets? Especially corps. If not having all corps in the country private/public has a tactical advantage?

While I dont really worry if my towns or counties get destroyed. They do get used to drain air defence so is it worth setting up AA batts only?

Thanks

defense is for fearless blue and game levels
interceptors and helis
garrisons are for defense rating for war game levels
I just deploy the standard 80Q garrison
you will need many supply units

Thanks for the reply Matt but your post has confused me. What do you mean "defence is for FB and game levels"? Is that why nobody has active defence on LU they've agreed to fight on FB or something?

Woad, ask Josias. I'm positive he is very happy to help you on defense advice.

I mean after the our last encounter, he's basically your player advocate at this point. Click on the link above and post your question to his mailbox.

Yes you do want defences if you are war level 3 or above, or you can pay continuously for WP.

Main targets are Capital and cities, enemy gets most points for hitting them. Counties are used for what you say, but defending them...one hit and the defense will be gone anyway, so basically dont worry. A few jeeps or something in them is good for hindering enemy land forces, they cant just walk through them. This is mainly the point of defense, to slow the enemy down as much as possible to give you chance to attack back.
Yes, private/public corps cant be directly targeted. Forts are costly to detroy but essential for the attacker so you might consider giving them a strong defense.
Only other thing I can say is you need to anticipate the kind of attack you are likely to come under. Land invasion would mean arty tanks etc, anti tank msls, and helis, lots of helis.
Air attack (bombers, drones etc) would require high proportion of AAMB and MIB. Defensive Msls good if you expect missle attacks. Up to you the balance you make.

Thanks Crafty that's the answer I was looking for.

What about having the defence garrisoned on a full time basis? I cant see anyone with there garrisons in place. Is it to costly to keep them deployed permenantly?

You haven't looked in the right place Woad.

Buy long range radar planes from the offensive weapons purchase screen and look at top ranked War slaves on LU. Click on Capitol and so on Send no more than 2 radar planes out at a time. And only buy maybe 10 total, you may lose one once in a while.

Its setup pretty much how crafty explained.

Thank you's.

He can keep it.

as far as part garrisons, remember you can only re-activate 10% of your total for each weapon per month. If you have loads inactive 10% in one month may be enough, just work out roughly how long it would take you to get full garrisons. You have several months now to reactivate stuff between declarations of war and it actually starting. You will save a lot of money, only down side is they wont be fully upgraded if that bothers you, as it takes ages to upgrade garrisons.

Quick question Woad, are we talking about your secured main or a slave country?

Slaves Keto. Though I am experimenting with my secured main for now as that's were I have most my weapons. Im gonna switch mains anyway when the times right. Saves transfering the weapons. Main's only need air defence is that right?

Are deployed garrisons using up ammo when sitting idle? My monthly use on the world trade page has went down now that i've deployed some garrisons. Somethings telling me they gotta be using ammo though. How much is it do you guys know?

I always thought active weapons, in garrisons/units or just active used the same training ammo. In-active weapons use much less, about a 1/10th I think, but dont quote me on that. Remember units have been made smaller a couple of times recently, which may be why you are seeing less training ammo usage.
