Ive used this bug after wild and I were declared on by a gang of players with over 100 decs. My name changes were defensive in nature, after the fact, and geared towards preventing further decs from aggressors.

I never did, nor would, use the bug to offensively declare and isolate a player like this.

But, as I said I have used this bug to survive, never to kill.

This is the war world however....

Long names do not prevent war declarations activated by war treaty; they may, as you note prevent declarations from aggressors. There is no moral high ground here.

I had no war treaty, so that is a moot point

How can you have a war treaty with yourself?

The countries in your fed who signed the war treaty are involved in the war.

Sometimes, I feel like shoving a stick up everyone's arse who is using the bug. But then I remember I can't do shoving and writing bitching at the same time.

I forgot to mention: I can actually declare war on countries with the bug. Don't try my patient when you are only one day away from salvation.

The great Gurus introduce this tactic to our idyllic war world, then try to tell us when and in what manner it may be used. Not possible ... Prometheus has passed the torch, and it is now a known feature of the game. And obviously one intended by W3, or they would have fixed it long ago, right? It's not cheating, let alone CHEATING, unless there were a prior agreement among players not to use it.

using something that so oviously defeats the point of a WAR GAME, should, well, when things go this far, the contest has devolved from friendly competition, to just plain cheap tricks...

i'm sorry, but using a bug, is cheap, and it makes me sick, theirs a point of fighting some one you don't like, and pulling out all the stops, but their is still a line of common decency,

to say W3C thinks its ok to do, or they woulda fixed it... when their are tons of things in this world that aren't a crime, does that make them "OK?" Their is no justification for bad behavior

Aye, alas I am likely responsible for this tactics spread on this world and for that I have kicked myself many times. In moment of weakness I did it halt further decs on me.

When I used it I was wrong and likely didn't even need it to survive.

To see it used OFFENSIVELY against friends who may potentially loose assets is upsetting to me. Ill personally cover any loss tres may suffer.

Its hardly a feature lol. Its a gimmick to limit risk.

Either way it seems as though danneh is not attacking tres so that is hopeful.

"used offensively" - you're going to have to explain that one Wrath, the only possible thing long names can do is act defensively as a device to slow down retaliations. At the (offensive) war declaration stage, long names do not prevent reverse declarations via war treaty, so there is no offensive gain.

Treasurer has already carted off the 10M sellable pop from his country and I think we all know that the assets that are at stake are a tiny blip in his vast fortune. This is nothing to do with material gain anyhow.

Yeah, the long names thing is irritating me too, I had hoped that W3C would have fixed it last week like the game news led us to believe, but they didnt and Treas' newb protection wore out yesterday so the die was cast. Jo Jo and Josias both have good points, but for me the clincher is that I dont believe 100% that counter-attackers wouldn't do the same thing with their country names, so I'm stayi

He who declares first is acting offensively, he who is declared upon is reacting defensively. being declared upon then changing your name increased your survivability. Changing your name then declaring on a player increases you winning likelyhood.

Thats how I see it anyway.

I'm as guilty as you basically. Either way it doesn't matter. Just a game. The die is cast.

Ive exploited a nuke bug in the past and players have payed dearly because of what I(and friends discovered). I have mostly regrets now about "bug sploits." Once you hit a certain level of capability bugs, like nukes, are likely not needed.

OK, I made an offensive move by declaring against Treasurer, but long names changed nothing at the offensive stage.

Sometimes there's a fine line with these things, like declaring on a C3 simply to stop an opponent declaring/capturing it is also really a sploit. It might not be a bug because the code does what the devs intended it to do, but it's certainly a sploit because the code is being used for a purpose that it wasn't designed for. I'm not criticising anyone for using this, just noting it.

The name thing once again wont stop someone who knows what they are doing from declaring war on anyone - do I need to prove this?

edit: Danneh isn't cheating IMO he is just aggressively using a glitch to achieve an end. If my messages indicated he was cheating that wasn't my intent. he is stacking the odds in his favor surely but not cheating.

Im biased danneh. I consider tres a friend so naturally I will be grumpy when I cant directly intervene and assist him.

Barney, not necessary, I pulled out 10m in pop and im just having a little fun slowing him down. I had nothing in it anyway, just a glorified c3 with some extra pop in it. I'm just using this to learn his tactics for next time.

And Dannneh, you knew what I had and knew I couldn't even scope out what you were bringing against me after you declared due to the "sploit". I couldn't use any radar planes to see what you had "under the hood" because you were using the "sploit" offensively to keep me from seeing what you might be bringing in battle.

I'm not bitter, I know I will lose this little country and am resigned to the fact that i will get another and come after you, but using straight up tactics and not your "sploit"
