Alan, you said on another thread:

Quote:

How about giving my neighbor some aid then, he is actually building schools and corps and not military, and he's a brand new player.

So why didn't you use your post on THIS thread to suggest the SC gives aid to your neighbour, instead of being generally negative? Or would you vote against that as well, because you just don't want other people to get some help?

More importantly, why are you and frank using this thread to discourage new players from applying for aid? It's here to make sure that aid gets to players who could do with it. You seem to prefer that all new players lose out, rather than a new player you don't know gets a boost.

Let's get this thread back on track. The Security Council has aid to give out. No one loses any money by it being granted so, if new players need it, please apply here, or nominate someone else's country that you think could use it.

So your reason for posting was to stop anyone getting aid, not to help someone. Pretty much what I thought ...

I can understand people being selfish enough not to want to give away their own money. But not wanting to give away other people's money? Really? Think what that says about you ...

The Security Council has primary responsibility, under the Charter, for the maintenance of international peace and security.

This is not a Capitalist Congress. It's a Security Council.

If ya want help getting out of dept, look up the Federation, Xion Empire.

I promise I will consider any proposal on it's merits should it come to general voting. If the country is genuinely trying to build it's economy at least in balance with a reasonably sized army, I would support aid.
I understand Jo S now has an emotional attachment to this particular country stemming from the exchange of messages, thus the unnecessary ad hominem attacks on my character that are unbecoming of a top tier player.

Alan,

I have served on SC many times over and see the granting of sim aid as a boost to new players who need help in building their infrastructure and staying with the game. Granted, as a member and as voters, it is up to us to decide whether the money is given wisely. But as Jo said, the money is there to help NEW players get started.

Furthermore, Jo's post was NOT an attack on your character, per se, only pointing out her opinion that the aid is there to be used and not quite understanding why you have a grievance.

To Frank, the money is given to new players to use as they will. If they choose to use the money unwisely on getting weapons vs. the fortifying of their economies, well so be it. They won't get a chance at monetary aid a second time.

Thanks,
Lorelei

considering that the players get to create the resolutions, and vote to give the money away, wouldn't that mean that the players have every right to decide what the money is for?

as it is, it is a useless game feature, as the requirements for receiving aid are so strict and lined with catch 22s.

how is sending 5T aid to a player suppose to create international security? seriously? i've been known to spend 20T on military spending a day, for RL months at a time. some how i doubt that 5T in a pinch is going to make some one secure.

so instead of hording useless money for an imaginary phenomena, that not only wont happen, but if it does, many will find a reason not to give the aid, (ie they didn't get any,) why not *TRY* to do something with it

and if giving aid to player means they stay around longer, well that is better for us all.

And WHO are you, Synicus??? The last I checked, funding from the SC was to help new players boost their economies and build their infrastructures. I was speaking in general and not in reference to any specific request. Having said this, anyone we give aid to, do we have control over how they spend it??? Don't tell me what it is or isn't for. I've played this game for years, have served on the SC many times on FB and WG, and have played with players who, I am sure, far surpass your knowledge and skills in the game.

I'm a returning veteran, I just returned to the game a few weeks ago. Technically I am new, in terms of recent playing time. I reached the top 100 in under 2 weeks with no aid whatsoever but then I bought population. I don't see what is the problem? You are basing my experience upon the statistics of a country that I've played for a few weeks when I played many years ago? You don't know me, Mr. SS.

I never claimed to be some great player with lots of wisdom, I just voiced my opinion as we would like to have a right to do.

But you've put me in my place all right, nice job. This was none of your business, yet you go out of your way to find out my country to insult me? What a pathetic soul. I pity you.

For a returning veteran player in the game, Alan, your choice of fedmates leave something to be desired. I'm referring to Thor Gross, a moron who frequents chat to derive a boner of some sorts out of attacking veteran players. He would be wise to stop doing this, and it would be wise of your federation to oversee the conduct of its members......that is, if you dun wish your federation to feel the consequences at some point in this game. I assure you, I never forget an insult. :-)

Anyways, welcome back to the game.

peter, this is interesting, you can get by with out the aid, it looks like you've been building econ appropriatly. and you can probably use a little boost to speed things up. but my SC membership just ran out, so i have no choice but to leave it to some one else to make the call. i'm interested in seeing how other players feel about giving you aid. either way, i'll be ok, because like i said, your on the edge, you can use it, but don't really need it.

and alan, lorelei really doesn't forget an insult, trust me on that.

yea, that was probably a low blow, looking over that country, i don't really see a problem. low indexes doesn't mean poor management, its making a decent profit for being fairly new and small country. and as alan said, he increased his pop, and is now trying to get things back to where they are suppose to be. have a heart, jeese

Lorelei, I'm a Member of the Security Council and Chairman of the Xion Empire. The SC funds are for maintaining peace and security. Security Council ---> proposals ---> enter a new proposal.

Choose Topic
Forbid nuclear weapons - no funds needed (and no use)
Forbid nuclear facilities - no funds needed (and no use)
Forbid nuclear attacks - no funds needed (and no use)
Enforce peace treaty - no funds needed (and no use)
Untied development aid - uses Security Council funds.

Entering a proposal is the only thing that members of the Security Council can actually do. A proposal can be started by SC members to give development aid, but the recipients are limited to new players. It may not be documented, but it is the only thing they can be spent on, ergo that's what the funds are for. There is certainly no way of spending them on "maintaining peace and security".

There isn't any documentation on the Security Council other than a general description on the Council homepage, which describes the real life security council much better than the simcountry one, and that seems to be the foundation for your comments.

May I suggest that, as a member of the Security Council, you attempt to spend those funds on something other than aid and make sure it can be done, before you start lecturing those who are familiar with the system on their use and purpose.

Hugs and respect

I'm all for Peter getting aid, I have nothing against it. But I am semi-opposed to people getting aid because they made mistakes. Yes, we want them to stay in the game, but there are more deserving recipients?

Until the Security Council can actually stop wars and intervene in fights and all that, it will be there just sitting on money. I dunno, maybe have the Security Council as a peacekeeping force, using player's military as peacekeepers, whilst paying for them (sorta like mercenaries).

Or perhaps use the security council funds to pay for goods. So the security council can purchase goods from a country, and later resell it, at an inflated price for aid. Some like the food for oil program (that didn't work out well).

Thank you Jo,
I am aware of how the Security Council works.
'But as Jo said, the money is there to help NEW players get started'. That is simply false. The funds can be used for Untied development aid.

I was against your original proposal becuase the player declared war with no ammo and spent alot of money the month before hand. It was also not clear anyone was advising him or her.

I'm not against using some of the funds for Untied development aid, but I believe advertising to do so would be irresponsible on our part, particularly with false claims.

As members of the Security Council we took an oath to make responsible decisions. Other programs could be interesting but seeking ways to drain the coffers is not my idea of being a responsible Councilor.

Jo Salkilld (White Giant)

Thursday, June 16, 2011 - 01:14 am Click here to edit this post
Synicus, I note that you do not dispute my point that the funds can only be used in development aid. Thank you for that. Presumably you now agree that they are not there for the purposes of "maintaining peace and security".

A couple of inaccuracies in your last post: it was perfectly clear that someone was advising the last player to receive aid, as I stated myself that I was advising them. Also, no one on the Security Council has taken an oath. We are urged by the Gamemaster to "use our wisdom to make the planet a better world", but we are free to ignore that if we wish. Not that I wish to do so but, of course, each person's definition of "a better world" differs and others may not see my actions in that way. I have to say, though, that I am struggling to see how you are using your position on the SC to improve the planet.

The Security Council currently has 580T funds available for development aid. Personally, I consider it irresponsible for that cash to just sit there gathering dust, when it could be encouraging more people to keep playing this game. Thus advertising its availability is essential if one is to act responsibly but, of course, you disagree. That is the nature of our different notions of 'responsibility'. I do, however, doubt that we would ever "drain the coffers". Even if every proposal was for the full amount of 5T, we would still need to approve 116 separate aid packages before we ran out of funds. That's one every three days for the next RL year ... assuming the funds never get replenished which, of course, they do.

I would also very much like you to clarify what you mean by "false claims".

Peter: I would gladly start a proposal for your country, but I believe Security Council members are limited in how often they can do this. If no one else does I will happily make the attempt but, even if I am able, it may be easier to convince the player base to endorse it if a different member of the Security Council supports you. Are any other members of the Security Council willing to step up for this one?

Hugs and respect

Unfortunately, no other member of the Security Council has come forward to back the aid proposal, so I will look at the feasibility of proposing aid myself. Peter, please cancel your country's secrecy settings so that I can evaluate it in advance of proposing an aid package.

Finance and defence details are not available and this is crucial in assessing your need for aid.

Then I'm afraid, Peter, that I won't be able to propose aid.

There is no reason not to temporarily drop your defence index security, unless you are planning to make war on another player: your country is secured and cannot be attacked, therefore there is no chance that revealing your DI will put you at risk.

There is no reason to drop secured mode unless you are planning to attack another player, therefore other players will assume that your reluctance to reveal your DI is a prelude to a PvP war. No one will vote aid to someone who will use it to attack another.

I need aid at sekeres on white giant, I've never been in a war and have disbanded all troops that it will allow me to. I can't seem to attract the attention of an enterprise because my taxes are to high, but if I go any lower I start accumulating major debt, can't ssem to stay in the green, and now i'm slowly dropping to level 1 because i can't maintain infastructure/medical/education. The best way to attract CEO corps is to join a large federation or advertise your state corps for sale on this forum. CEOs will often buy state corps that aren't too expensive which would be a better option for you, as you have low unemployment and wouldn't be able to sustain any more corps at the moment.

The other option is to start your own Enterprise, buy twelve of your cheapest state corps and then IPO the rest over to it. The extra profit your country makes should cover the 30 GCs per month to keep your new enterprise registered, and you will need one once you get to level 6 as you can't progress further without it.

I'm happy to start an aid proposal but it would be better if another member of the Security Council does this. Please would any WG SC members who are happy to propose aid for Sekeres post here.

Michael G. You have 3 military corps in a country with only 10 million people. That is 3 very massive money suckers right there in such a young country. You also have a couple unprofitable companies on top of the money guzzlers. And ... you are building yet another unprofitable corp.

I would suggest closing the military corps and all unprofitable corps. Don't build corps until all the ones you do have are at 100%. Build military corps later on after your country developes, you have no need for them now and young countries can not sustain multiple military corps.

If you choose to lower your taxes with a promise to hit 0 when you start making money and you close those unprofitable corps, I'm sure ceo's will build or relocate to your country as your population allows.

If you keep building state run corps then at least build profitable ones and close the military and unprofitable ones.

Weedman ... you are losing money every month and even if you are granted aid, it will go down the drain of your negative monthly balance.

I suggest you sell your defensive weapons - you don't need them as your country is secured and you cannot be attacked as you are at WL1.

You should also close down your loss-making corps. Coal, copper, gold, iron, minerals, sulfur, cement, clothes, glass and plastics rarely make money. Work on the index requirements for the next level. That is your best way to improve your country and you will be able to build better corps that way.

Also, reduce your tax to zero and invite CEOs to build or buy your remaining state corps. That will make you more money than anything else.

If you can do those things and turn a tiny profit each month, it will be worth the SC granting you aid to clear your debt and set you on the road to success.

Hugs and respect

hey guys, I have been on the game for a while now. And I have stayed with the same country, NAME = Republic of stritch. I'm facing major economic problems because of my high military spending many many decades ago. Ive now cut my military and spending over the decades. And I now have a small offensive military and abit bigger defensive. All weapons are currently deactivated. For decades now ive been running a deficit around 15-21 B And debt has been building up into very dangerous levels, I'm currently bankrupt and cannot build stuff and unemployment is going up. And I'm facing shortages in everything nearly. And I have also faced a earthquake which closed 2 corps and boosted unemployment. I need aid of 5 Trillion to save my economy and country , I can't continue like this. --- in return I will make big spending cuts and get my country into the green. ALSO I'm willing to surrender my economic soverignhty and let somebody else basically take control of my economy and spending until things improve majorly. I need a financial advisor and 5 Trillion aid
