No shares available

Been a while since I played and I remember the investment portfolio having a lot of stuff in it. I checked through the market now and there seems to be literally no shares available to purchase. am I doing something wrong?

Nothing wrong with your doing.
It happens that a few CEOs of big enterprises are struggling for any shares that come around.
To give an example, Dutch Rule has now more than 2300 corps, and I am quite sure a good number of them were bought from share marked (I have myself lost control of few corps to him without even realize it before it was already done).
So, looks like sea is for big sharks now :-)
