Corps going public IPO (Little Upsilon)

ok i probibly should have ask this already.
when i first preform an IPO
i have been creating new shares
should i have been using existing shares?.
whats the pros and cons of new shares versus existing shares

I've been told its better to sell existing shares first so thats what i've always done. I dont really understand why though.
