Over the course of the last week, my corporations have been reporting increasing losses in revenue. This at first seemed to only be a minute problem but now it seems that one third of my corporations have completely ceased production and it seems as though the majority that haven't yet reported a complete cessation will do so in the coming days.
Not only my economy had been affected by this; my entire federation has reported an economic collapse. This has been made worse by our connections to each other through our common market; the loss in productivity has snowballed because none of the corporations in the common market are getting the supplies they need.
From what I can make out, this is all down to the huge demand for Factory Maintenance Units with virtually no supply. It doesn't really make sense that something so integral to the running of all corporations is being produced by such a small number of players. It should have a maximum game level three requirement to build these corporations. To fix this soon would require flooding the market artificially with these units but as we saw the last time when a huge amount of supplies were suddenly injected into the international market on Kebir Blue, corporations took massive hits because the corporations that did produce those supplies became effectively worthless and again the issue snowballed.
Global economies in Simcountry need to be reorganised, the system works most of the time but when it fails it fails catastrophically.

interestingly, players have begged for years, and years, for the GM to not intervene into the world economies, as they always have put up enough products to prevent collapse. years ago, they attempted this, and then stopped, as players did not actually build the corps needed to keep the econ running.

unfortunately, your solution, is to buy a stock pile of the most critical resources, and use those to manually supply your corps in times of need. best of luck

On White Giant we've been seeing periods of massive oversupply of Factory Maintenance followed by periods of severe shortage. Seems to be really hard to achieve an equilibrium now.

if i can intercede, on my own behalf? shuttle prices are dirt cheap, many people are making a killing out of space trade, buying over stocked FMUs, and transporting them between planets, good way to make tons of money! lots of other good products for this, some you don't even need shuttles for, like HTS and services.

Also, KB seems to be a smaller world, total population-wise, so markets are more easily affected. Stockpile some vital assets and manually supply the corps. I have tried this, and it works, for riding out fluctuations. Yeah, it takes a little time, but it seems to be worth it.

I was just wondering, could it be possible that someone could use immediate order at the start of each month to buy ALL of the FMUs in production? Someone could be buying them explicitly to hurt our economies and then sell them back for enormous profit.

Each enterprise has a spending limit for each month. That limit is enough to buy large quantities, but not enough to really throw off the market. Now, if a very large player along with other large players were to buy the maximum with each of their enterprises and countries, while also importing and exporting through the space market, they could certainly throw it off temporarily. That may be part of what has been going on.
