Good day,

I have been out of town for the past week and until then have been striving to compete for #1 in LU. Upon my return, I find my slave country of AwesomeRuins is under attack by Raji and Last of a Dying Breed. I have no explanation from these two and from my understanding have not taken any offensive towards them nor others in the game.
War starts in 5 hours approximately.

They are equipped with nuclear weapons and an extensive air force which I will not be able to withstand. I do not mean to bitch and gripe, but unfortunately I do have other work and duties to attend to than to fight an unexplained 1 on 2 war with these pricks.

I understand that my country has no war protection, but if I had wanted to fight wars continually and not actually care about understanding the rating and financial dynamics of the game, I would have started a country on FB and not LU.

It's not the war so much that upsets me, its the lack of explanation and my inability to plan accordingly being that war is now an issue.

Anyone is free to comment, especially my aggressors...

Regards,
"A Pissed Off" Chuck

Deimo's Response to me:

Sorry, but keep in mind that this is a game, and while you may enjoy the economic side of the game, I enjoy the military side of the game. Suggestions: a) Join a fed with defense b) Defend yourself

(Angry) RESPONSE:

Yes, understood this is a game. Perhaps if you like the military side, you do understand that there is a world for that reason...or are you too pussy to go there and fight?

And maybe you should develop the proper communications if you truly want to play a game...challenge someone to a duel before scoping out countries that you know you can take. With nukes, and an air force you will take AwesomeRuins.

If you wanted a challenge or to truly "play the military aspect of the game," why didn't you challenge me one-on-one? Why must you gang up with one of your buddies, not man enough?

I'm up for a military challenge, and would have no problem doing it the proper way. But you and your buddies are going around like a bunch of pricks.

I'm not even fighting, so I am sure that this will be a lot of fun for you...you might as well challenge a C3...idiot...

Let me guess. You have 200k MIBs and no real defenses because you wanted to level up and get the GC rewards and be at the top of the boards? It doesn't matter what planet you are on, there is NO safe planet. There are reasons that people 'waste' all that money, and burden their governments with defense spending. All you've done is set yourself up as a target.

You don't like the war part of the game? Then spend GC on WP or go play Monopoly.

I do play and fight on FB.

I am not interested in waiting around for you to set up a c3 for a c3 war.

I did challenge you one on one, I just used more than one country from my empire to dec on you.

Many players raid and strip countries to gain gold coins. For those of us who do not use visas often, this can be a way to pay for the account fees. Did you see what Jason did last week to a large empire on Lacerta?

I have been away for a few days. I had seen no challenge, no messages, only a declaration of war from Ares and Deimos (same person apparently) within minutes.

And like I told this fellow...no, I am not on simcountry 24 hours a day reading about your virtual conquests and exploits...really don't care...

The country he is about to destroy has kept me paying my fees as well, not my visa mind you. I guess that is why I am pissed off, as I used it for revenue for 9 months and he will burn off whatever assets are left within a couple of days. What a waste in my opinion, as there are smarter ways to do things...

Or, after he takes it, buy it back from him. It's kind of the pussy thing to do, but since you have no army, you don't have many options. Ares is a generous fellow, and like he says, he's only doing it to make GC himself.

Buy it back from him, build your defenses, join a fed, and make the GC back. Otherwise he'll just sell it to someone else. Who knows, I may even put an offer in.

Anyways, you're going to learn a lesson one way or another. You just need to figure out how much you want that lesson to cost you.

Little Upsilon is the fast planet. That makes it the best planet to build up or take assets and liquidate them.

Little Upsilon is the most crowded planet. The targets are limited. On White Giant someone can easily find dozens of inactive countries. On LU most fully inactive countries are in debt over $10T to $20T. From the statement "I have been out of town for the past week" we can assume that all of your empire was showing "active in the last month". If you wait all month for a country to stop showing "active in the last month" someone else will have already taken it.

Calling them pricks is un-called for. Attacking the more inactive players is as polite as someone playing an internet war game can be. Name calling is generally not a good way to avoid a war in Simcountry.

FYI I resent it when the term "pathetic" is used as an insult. People on LU with no army trying to play the economic game should think of something more creative. 8(

I must say a "bait" would have, in my eyes, been more respectable. That is what I am pissed off about and I defend my prior statements as they are considered a retort as I am not the primary aggressor!

And regarding not being active in a month, it was a merely 3 days. Not nearly long enough for my long standing "active in the past week" title to change. On a side note, I am sure that Ares can note that my master country next door is ranked #2 in LU (as I am sure he did his fair share of scoping out "worthy" rivals). As well as on a world view, I appear as an experienced and not aggressive empire.

Also, to tell me that I will learn my lesson and to advise me to buy my own country back after he will dismantle it is insulting to me! That is the same as telling someone who is robbed at gunpoint..."you learned your lesson, didn't you!?!"

And back to you, Ares, remember that I did not call you a "pussy" or a "prick" prior to you waging a war against me...am I correct? That is a very illogical way to justify your own terribly misjudged war.

I believe, if you would like a true battle and really would enjoy "earning" your GC rather than stealing them. Allow me to familiarize myself with the military aspects and you may wage war at a later time and really earn your stripes, and maybe some respect from other well distinguished Presidents on SC.

BorderC,

On a side note...my finance rating was once over 285 when I did not purchase weaponry. As I am still learning new things in the game everyday, I have not personally covered the military aspect of the game. While I may have quite a defense, I am still not yet proficient or even familiar with war and I prefer not to stay up all night learning it to fight Ares. And truthfully, from my understanding, this wasn't the war world (call them excuses or not). As unlike a lot of other players, I do not have several empires on several planets and I don't appreciate the possibility of having half of what I own "robbed" and being to told to just..."buy it back and learn your lesson." I'll refrain from using any more namecalling...

I wonder which opinion weights the must on how things turn... What people think or what people do?

Dunbar's number is a theoretical cognitive limit to the number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships. These are relationships in which an individual knows who each person is, and how each person relates to every other person.[1] Proponents assert that numbers larger than this generally require more restricted rules, laws, and enforced norms to maintain a stable, cohesive group. No precise value has been proposed for Dunbar's number, but a commonly cited approximation is 150.

Thanx for the definition Samicus.

Laguna,
Dunbar's number does not apply. It may have applied in October 2008, now it does not. When I started playing the game (August 2008, WG) I could attack computer controlled countries and collect weapons, population, and cash. The loot was left over from deregistered countries. There was absolutely no reason to turn the war engine on an active player unless very provoked by that player. Attacking an inactive player risks the possibility that he/she returns and/or has friends. White Giant was saturated with CCCs carrying over 5T cash and I had little difficulty finding CCCs with more than 10T cash.
The game engine changed in November. CCCs no longer have much of anything. At first this was not a problem for the war gamers. There was still an abundance of inactive countries. On the off chance he/she came back just blame the game master and offer to sell the country back. The quality of inactive countries has been declining steadily. By February players who were only active in the last month and not in federations were getting attacked. Now it is April and the logical evolution is to attack the easy targets before someone else gets there first.

Assuming W3C does not radically change the mechanics again, by May or June the social norms on LU will have adjusted. New players reading the forum or going to chat will quickly find out that slave states have to be in debt of heavily defended. Long term LU players will know that you try for score in your secure country not in your slaves. How much is "enough defense" will still be up for debate and will evolve. At that point Dunbar's number will be relevant again. People on LU will know if they are heavily defended relative to their neighbors. A player who pushes the limits of weak defense will know he/she was pushing it or will know he/she is new to LU.

Cohesive stable groups in the real world cease to be cohesive and stable when starvation or epidemic disease kicks in. Groups of cannibals will quickly establish norms, know who is who and know how everyone relates. I would guess that Dunbar's number would apply to the sum of cannibals and the crop. Quarantined cities suffering from plagues quickly establish who is responsible for medical triage, fueling the incinerator, and digging the mass graves.

When a groups circumstance changes it can take awhile to establish the new set of norms.

Wrong. LDI controls nothing.

LDI is a group of players who are each a sovereign nation.

As such each member plays the game as they see fit.

We have no training academy or forums. We don't have inactive branches of 21 day n00bs. We don't have a command structure. We are not interested in politics. We have no desire to control anyone. We are however poor diplomats and sensitive. If you are an obnoxious rude asshat, hostile bidder or neighbor you will find we are somewhat capable warriors.

We don't want or try to control LU...But on Lacerta if you are looking for trouble....You will surely find it.. :)

Every player plays for different reasons. The game is unstable now for sure. Scarce resources and a changing game environment made to ensure this BUSINESS has the best chance of making money has led to this new reality on LU. We used to be able to make a killing on LU in in actives but not alot now. predation can occur, each player needs to decide if they have the "heart" for that type of play. I find that in most occasions I no longer have the heart to be a predator but I dont fault those who do, still call them friends and would defend them because they are friends. If your gonna prey on players you better be good, have friends, or not care about your own assets because sooner or later you will trespass in the wrong area.

Kevin and laguna tend to be "defenders" and will pick up that banner when they see fit. Thats the reality as I see it from my perspective. If they put a player in VS who happens to be under acute threat that is a clear signal to tread carefully or get ready for some fun.

When they(VS) set on you, for any reason, unless you are an elite player(which would likely mean you would be in a bloody protracted draw), you will lose countries. Whom they choose to attack is their business. To imply they are somehow particular about whom they choose to fight would be unfair. They dont fear any player IMO. I think they tolerate a "certain groups" unpredictability for the betterment of the world.

They dont pick fights, for the most part, but they will throw their empires into a shit storm of elite players if they see fit, and dam the consequences.

You should do better research, Alarich. I haven't attacked a noob without provocation since I was a noob myself. Some inexperienced players along the way? Yeah, okay, but the word noob is thrown around far too liberally.

Also, Chuck Steak of Awesomeruins had been around quite some time and I believe was only semi-active around the time of the Little Uppocalypse. Btw, it was EO who attacked that one on his own, and since chuck wasn't very active anyways I doubt EO is culpable for his leaving. On the flip side, I nuked Houston and it wasn't long before we (me + LDI + EO) were on MSN together talking about the finer points of the game and war. So in the end, Houston was prodded into becoming a better player (which is the point of what we do).

I think any actual noobs reading this ought to be informed that Alarich up there had 2-3 QUINTILLION military assets and just about the largest empire on all of LU when he was attacked, not to mention twice the military of myself. I only re-started the game three and a half months ago from a completely new account so i have none of my old assets.

So please, feel disinclined to believe his pissing and moaning. Instead, read my guide in the general forum or feel free to message me with questions about the game. It will be a much better use of your time than listening to Alarich who... well, I don't actually know what his problem is. Did I mention 3Q military assets and a massive empire with good war rankings? Jesus, talk about a meltdown... and he's pulling the noob card out?
