Now that all sides have come to an agreement to end the recent war on LU involving members of Valde and various assorted players, I have something in the way of a not-proclamation to make. It's easier to start by posting the pertinent IRC logs, then explaining what this means:

23:00 Laguna I went to war to avoid the massacre of new players. I want to know who are you going to attack next.
23:01 WildEyes No one to attack. I'm happy on HM with SNA now gone. Maybe if another fed starts congregating in the area and starts looking like they have a bit of power I'll get twitchy
23:02 WildEyes I'm not making a decree about HM, neither Manny-style nor Pink Floyd-style
23:04 WildEyes and i only really care about the eastern half
23:04 WildEyes but yeah.
23:08 WildEyes unless it would be unfair to attack an entire fed... it wouldn't be just some new player in the area. It would be like another SNA in my area.
23:10 WildEyes you satisfied?
23:22 Laguna Yes.
23:23 WildEyes excellent.
23:23 Sam_Houston_ Excellent
23:24 Sam_Houston_ You made me be a peacemaker and I smite you both with rolled up newspapers

What this means is exactly what I said: I'm not staking a territorial claim, prohibiting other players, or doing anything like that. It's just that... Hercula Major is my back yard, and I've been known to play rough. If you're a new player or whatever, you have little to worry about. It would just be wise not to create a large, localized center of power there. That is all. This post is to serve as a public service announcement in hopes of avoiding future wars of aggression by, well... me. I'm not going to stop anyone from growing or playing how/where they want, I'm merely informing everyone about the potential risks down the line. At least I'm giving a heads-up about it.

In closing, if you are still interested in the continent in any way, I recommend the Western half of Hercula.

WildEyes, Siva, Petra Arkanian, Valkyrie and all the other nicknames I've used and tend to rotate through.

In other words, you've staked a territorial claim while refusing to acknowledge it.

Gamemaster forbid that a SUCCESSFUL new player actually end up next to you, and grow to five or six good countries. If such new player merely wants a contiguous empire, you will attack him?

No, Kieth. You have failed to read my post.

If I was staking a territorial claim, I declare an area off limits. I know how to tell the different between legitimate threats and players simply building their little empires. I know how to tell the difference from someone learning the game from the emergence of a multi-continent, multi-branch fed network.

If I see a player with five or six "good countries" who also happens to have 100T military assets and growing in those countries, I might start paying him or her attention. Likewise if a large, multi-branch federation has three or four players, with five or six countries all together right there.

What I have posted is not difficult to understand. Don't make yourself conspicuous in a relatively small portion of LU. You can be there, your fed can be there. Even your friends can be there. Just be conscious of the way in which you do it and understand that if you want to start becoming a superpower on my doorstep, I will probably come knocking. I'm not being unreasonable, and frankly I think it is better to post this now and say "i told you so" rather than have some player BAWWWing on the forum a couple months down the road.

edit: This is good advice in general, because the closer you are to a big player, the more weapons they can bring to bear on you and the more they can hurt you. The game does mark empires as red which are "large empires that may not like new neighbors." Some large empires are friendly and dedicated to peace, I, on the other hand, like some space and am making that fact vocal in order to avoid complications down the line.

edit 2: Contiguous empires are stupid and very bad ideas because it's easier to run LRDs through them and take all the countries. They're also more fun to nuke.

Wild will do exactly as she pleases...As will any other player who has the balls to do so and can stand the consequences.

The days of dictating terms from ivory towers is over.

I have the same policy except I prefer to smash things in silence in my regions.

Ask any of my neighbors how friendly I am to obvious troublemakers...

She at least has laid out in plain English her stance.

What constitutes a troublemaker?

:) I could tell you but then I would have to kill you.

Thank you, Sam.

I'm not naive enough to think I could enforce a territorial claim even if I wanted to. Especially not with secure mode, war protection, and the ability of any player with a tad bit of skill to take a C3 anywhere on the map.

I am simply informing people of my stance.

Meh, I've sold off my empire so from my POV it was merely an academic question.

And yes, I managed to build up quickly enough that I probably would have attracted your attention had I been close to you--hence my undue curiosity. Since sold because I got sick of micromanaging it. Definitely wasn't sufficiently interested in the game to actively defend it.

Yes, earthquakes are also fun for contiguous empires. Some things, like empire placement, I did more for aesthetic than tactical value. If I could be half-bothered to start a new empire I would probably learn from that mistake, but meh I don't care enough to be active enough to do that.

But I don't much care for the game anymore, so the only nukes I have to worry about are those that irradiate my CEO corps, which to be honest I log into my enterprises so seldom that I probably wouldn't even notice :)

Edit: I should also mention that for the first few months I played on LU I spent my profits on ammo stockpiles rather than pay FS or suffer the pain-in-the-ass cash market. There are uses for military expenditures other than to look threatening.

Ziggy, if you can bring more players over from eRep, Nationstates, runescape, whatever, I will personally help them to ensure they are successful. This, of course, does not negate my warning mentioned above; however, SC needs a breath of fresh air and the best way to do that is with competent players.
