Dear UPM comembers:

As we should all be well aware, the recent world market supply shortages have continued to affect industrial production throughout the Upsilon Plan Market.

Ythkrovvari (KvA), the investment enterprise of Athretvari and Athretvari Ut is prepared to build several new corporations throughout the UPM to address some these shortages. Specificaly: glass, electric components, electronic components, chemicals, factory maintenence units, high tech services, air transport, computers, and household products.

Quality of product will be capped at 100.

100% of the corporations' production will be reserved for UPM supply usage under the following scheme:
10% reserved for KvA internal contracts, 20% reserved for Athretvari and Ath-Ut states and their corporations, 20% reserved for hosting state and its corporations, last 50% reserved for remaining UPM members and their corporations on a first-come-first-serve basis. Uncontracted production will be sold on world market. Presidents will be informed when product is available for contract.

Host candidates should have active presidents (login at least once a day to check and correct any supply issues); corporate taxes no higher than 30% (lower rates will get preferred consideration); near or at 100% hiring in all current corporations; education, health, social security, and transporations indexes near, at, or above 100; and most importantly enough available workers for 100% production in the specific type of corp to be built.

Corporations may be closed due to unfavorable market conditions within host country or development of a world market surplus in the particular industry.

Should you be interested in hosting a KvA corporation, please let me know. Be sure to include a summary of the current market condition in the host candidate (specifically those indexes noted above) and be sure to specify which type of corp should be built based on the type of workers you can make available and the particular supplies your corps need most.

Peace and Prosperity,

Gothamloki (Little Upsilon)

Not entirely sure. I think he's the leader of a common market, and he's trying to get a message out to his entire CM. I'm pretty sure you can just send out messages like this in a CM-wide message from your country, though, which is weird.

As for the regular message system, you just need to split up the messages because it can't handle essays.

It's clear to the individuals it's addressed to. The forum provides the means to say what needs to be said in one efficient post as opposed to several tiny msgs.

A easy solution for your TMTR syndrome might be to simply read that which concerns you and no more. Or at least you can save yourself some stress (or whatever else seems to ill you about others' affairs) by simply moving on when you come upon texts too long or "too much" to read through.

Goth, honestly, stop making a fool of yourself. As evidenced by Crafty's sarcastic post and the posts of the other highly respected players after him, you're being a prick. As they know, I am one of the players on these forums who tends to post long comments, and long messages, because I like to help people. The reason why I commented here is because your post is confusing to read, perhaps because you're not using the lingo of the game.

In terms of using the forum, it's your prerogative to use the forum to post messages that are specific to a group of players, but it would actually be far more efficient to condense the message into a single post and send it out to your entire common market.

Now, to get back to the "being a prick" thing: I am a veteran player of this game. I have been helping new players and old players in this game as much as I can since I have started. I don't tend to be unnecessarily angry, rude, or war-like, because I recognise that, like you, I am just another player here, and compared to someone like Laguna, I am an utter newb, just like you.

So here's a pro-tip from one newb to another - don't ever, ever insult a veteran. Not only does it make you look like an ass, it also means less allies for you in the event of conflict and a higher likelihood that you'll be on the pointy end of a nuclear weapon.

In sum: I'm not pissed off at you, but please be more considerate in the future, cause you looked like an asshat just then (unless I insulted you earlier without realising it :/).

Oh, and don't take this as an insult. Take it as a friendly reminder that you're not LU World Dictator yet, meaning you can't just throw your weight around.

Gothamloki (Little Upsilon)

Please identify my " insult" since I have yet to go around calling anyone a fool, prick, asshat, or otherwise. Nor have I trolled about the forums, clicking on posts, finding lengthy post I don't know the context of, don't have the patience to read, then comment on it being 'too much to read, and oh, what the hell is he talking about anyway?' Nor did I then (again, without a clue as to what was being discussed, but (hopefully) having some idea it did not concern me) go on to advise about "essays" etc.

For such vegeran players, there seems to be a considerable lack of the understanding that some subjects do not necessarily concern them. They also seem not to understand that others may have already communicated. Thus, not everything said here need be reiterated in exacting detail for the uninformed-but-need-to-leave-a-comment-anyways.

Here's one pro-tip I learned early in life (luckily, I didn't need a game to teach me): It's best to not butt into conversations that don't concern me or I don't know the context of.

But, I do thank you for your helpful veteran muck-up of my post. Keep up the good work.

Anything posted on the boards is public business, and since they have not yet removed free speech from our forum rights, anyone has the right to comment on what is posted.

It probably would have died a natural death if you hadn't escalated it with your "easy solution to your TMTR" comment.

As for your pro-tip: again, you put it out for public viewing, so it is not a private conversation that anyone is butting into.

For the most part the veterans who bother to use the forum are helpful. Yes, they bash each other mercilessly at times in a good natured banter, but they understand something you seem not to:

This is a game. The forums are a good place to not only talk game stuff but to have interaction with people from all over. It's not the place for pissing contests.

You're the one who continues to escalate. "thank you for your helpful veteran muckup" is something that belongs on one of those stupid political discussion blogs. Makes you sound like a whiny teenager.

Gothamloki, since you are clearly in need of a long-winded explanation:
- I read your *entire post* several times. I could not decide what it meant. I suggested what it may have meant because I wanted to help any other confused players figure out what it may have meant. You then replied and told me that it was a private message. I informed you that private messages can actually be sent through the private message system and instructed you as to how to use that system - that is, I told you that splitting up your messages helps. None of this was said in an unfriendly tone.

-You then replied by insulting me. You accused me or RCP, I don't care which, of being a person with "TMTR syndrome", which is an insult that means that the person is too arrogant or stupid to read entire posts. The veterans pointed out your asshattery and I affirmed that you were, indeed, being a douche. That could be taken as an insult, but note that I said "you are *being* a prick" not "you *are* a prick". Note also that I ended my message but telling you that this was not an insult, but also that you should not throw your weight around. *In other words*, I was saying, "Hey, mate, there's no need to be an arsehole, just try and be respectful of those much more experienced than you."

In regards to your other arguments:
- I should not have to take a course in the history of your Common Market to understand a forum post. Notice that most other players, especially helpful and friendly players, show the context of their message before posting. For instance, I say "My enterprise is expanding, where can I build?" rather than "Where can I build?" and then yelling at people who don't understand whether I'm asking a question about how to play or who has room for corps.

- Every subject posted on the forums concerns every player. It is called a forum because, like in the ancient Roman forums, it is a place for random people to meet and talk about whatever the heck they want to talk about. If you make a post, that's the equivalent to shouting it out in an open marketplace - people are going to reply. If you have a message for your CM only, use the CM messaging system. If you cannot figure out how to use that system, ask a veteran - after all, *MOST OF US HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR AGES AND KNOW FAR MORE ABOUT THE GAME THAN YOU*. Emphasis added to illustrate my next point...

- Like every new player, you believe the veterans are a bunch of power-mad arseholes. The truth is that veteran players are the most knowledgeable players around because they have had much experience in the game. To use an analogy: Laguna is a grandfather, I am a teenager, you are a newborn. Who is going to know more about life, or at the very least, how to do basic things in life? I've never seen a newborn scream at a grandparent that he knows nothing about life.

- As for your "pro-tip": humorously enough, I also know when to speak and when not to speak. Here is when to speak anytime: on an open forum or chat. Here is when to butt out: on a private message. This is an open forum.
Here's another pro-tip: being disrespectful towards others doesn't gain you any friends. Oh, and another: being condescending doesn't help anyone.

- Finally, if you'd like to debate this any further, I'd be happy to debate it in a private message. If you want to appeal to the forum crowd about this incident, post a message here. I'm not holding any hard feelings towards you, I just think that, like all of us here, you have a lot to learn.

Now THIS is why we need wars!

A year or so ago this would have been a great excuse for two to have a war (I dont mean me, I would be bullying). And a good time would be had by all, and a lot learned, friends made and hey-ho, we all move on.

Shame that cant happen any more.

Rep, all very good points, except, that (and it's straining my fingers to type it yet again) the post while being posted on a public forum is specific to a certain group of people. And thus by the powers of shear logic, does not, even though posted on a public forum, concern every single person on that forum.

As far as this being a game... I wasn't the one who took a comment concerning someone else's TMTR issues as a personal affront and then proceed to call me a fool, prick, asshat, etc. That was someone else. Nor did I do that on a post clearly meant for others beside myself.

When RC (not I, Accordian) writes "TMTR" (return button) "what is this even about..." I am not the one saying RC has an issue with posts that are TMTR, RC is.

Accordian: Let me begin by saying I think this got out of hand for one reason: People do not read before commenting. I too, believe showing context is important. That is why I previously communicated with my CM comembers via private msg, then (in need to put all info in one spot for them) created a new thread on the LU page, gave my thread a very particular title, began my msg with "Dear comembers", and went on in the very first paragraph to remind those comembers of the recent supply shortages affecting production in our corps, Then in the next paragraph, I identified my enterprise, and that it was prepared to build specific types of corps throughout our common market to deal with those shortages. I then go on to specifics on max product quality, how 100% of production was going to be exclusively reserved for the common market, how that 100% was going to divided up, acceptable conditions within countries that want to host a corp, possible reasons a corp might be closed (I admit, THAT may have been too much too far), and ended my msg with a call to contact me should any member within the market be interested, identifying the information I'd like them to include in their reply.

I really have to disagree with your philosophy that every post concerns every player. Why do you think there are forum threads specific to the five worlds, others specific to war, trading, beginners, etc? Because not every post concerns every player.

I agree the forum is open for everyone to post what they want, so please allow me the same right, to post what I want.

Oh, and here's a tap for your tip: being disrespectful and conscending isn't a one way street. Look over your own language and tone, specifically the name calling.

I'll end with how I began this post, Peace and Prosperity.

rep (Little Upsilon)

Monday, June 13, 2011 - 07:03 pm Click here to edit this post

I understand your point of view. I'll apologize for the tone of my post.

How about, in the future, just ignoring anyone who jumps in on what is to you a private conversation? With the amount of folks playing SC there are bound to be those who rub each other the wrong way. There are people on the boards who enjoy stirring things up; falling into it just feeds their ego.

Crafty is right in the respect that having wars were a good way to relieve the tension that sometimes builds up. And as in RL it wasn't usually an all or nothing proposition. A couple of Feds would go to war, a few countries would change hands, a peace treaty would be signed, maybe one or two conquered countries would be returned, the losing Fed may have been forbidden from developing countries on a certain continent, etc. It was a lot of fun.

But that's past history, and I digress. You certainly have the right to post whatever you want on the boards (well, almost anything)and you have the right to play the game the way you want. I kind of enjoy the way you put yourself into your game persona in your OP. Shows some imagination. Maybe you could have started it: "The Supreme Leader of the (insert name/s)is pleased to announce to the Common Market partners of (insert name)...", then conclude with "this offer is limited to the members of..."
Keeps the flavor, avoids confusion, and most likely wouldn't have drawn a response.

Remember, those vets are always on the lookout for countries to build corps in and corps to buy!
Greedy suckers! :)

Peace and Prosperity to you, too.

Well, that does sound like it was fun with the old war rules. But I'm a bit thankful for the war leveling, as I'm sure the reference to finding myself at the pointy end of a nuke would have been carried out by now. (Not that it isn't obviously well deserved.)

You've had the best advise all day, I'll be super specific in the future for the sake of everyone's sanity.

And just so everyone knows, I give great wrong-way rubbings... for a price.

rep (Little Upsilon)

Ah, yes. Laguna, if I may be so bold, that reference just MIGHT have been about your goats! :)

Crafty, be good. Oh, wait, you are. Never mind.

Gothamloki, nukes, smukes. Get enough nuke defense batteries with enough missiles to defend with, no problem (except your neighbors might not be too happy about the fallout). A couple million of each ought to do it! :)

Watch what you say about rubbings, there's folks here who might take you up on it! Naming no names, let them do their own trolling!

I'm okay with the war leveling, but one thing it seems to have done is take away some of the "community" of the game and made it more like sitting at your PC dicing it out with an AI.

If you can stand being bored , here's a little of what it used to be like. I was on GR the last time, and with the old rules, unless you were in a backwater country or kept a VERY low profile you really had no choice but to join a Fed. Which if you think about it is very realistic. RL has a few countries who can project their power worldwide, a few more who can project power continentally but not worldwide, and a mess that can project regionally but not continent or world.

The regionals seek to align themselves with the continentals, and so forth. To do this they of course have to talk, and deal. The better diplomats come home with the bacon.

GR back then was the same way. The dominant world superpowers were the AF and the UC. It makes life so much easier when you have 15 or 20 people with empires to work with. Need workers? Somebody's got them. Have corps that need a home or vice versa? Not a problem. Need help understanding something? Somebody was there.

It seems that, since a person doesn't need to worry about their main any more that Feds are sort of past history. If you don't need those 20 air forces coming to your defense when you're attacked, why bother with a Fed?

All right, sorry, but there are things I miss about how it used to be. Nostalgia period over.

Oh, and if Laguna offers to let you rub one of his goats the "wrong way" I'd think twice!

In case you don't know him, Laguna is one of the "Gods" of the game. There are others, but "he be the man".

He has a corp in my country, I'm required to say that! :)

:) Yeah, that sounds pretty cool. A lot more contact between players. This is my second time playing SC as well, but my hiatus was only a few months long. So I've only experienced gameplay under the new rules. But the first time I created my own private common market and fed for my countries and had very little contact with other players. Got bored quickly. This time I accepted an invite to an existing CM and gameplay is a lot more challenging and interesting trying to collaborate with a bunch of folks.

'Beware Laguna's goats.' I'll keep that in mind. How are his chickens? Are they wrong-way-rub-safe? I like chickens.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011 - 04:18 am Click here to edit this post
Goth, my main issue was with the fact that I was insulted (or, at least, that I felt that I had been insulted) for no reason, when I was merely trying to help others figure out what was going on in this message. I admit that I did insult you back, I was condescending back to you, and I apologise for that.

In future, however, remember that the vets are here to help you, not to hinder you. This kind of situation could have been easily avoided if you hadn't insulted RCP/me or if you'd just cleared up your point when we first asked. You could have just said "This post was only meant for members of my common market, sorry," rather than going on the attack.

As rep helpfully pointed out, you do have a right to play the game your way, and you do have a right to post whatever you want on the forums, but you need to remember that people like RCP and I also have a right to wonder what on Earth you're talking about if we don't understand you :P Try to be more specific in future, and try not to go on the attack. I'll try to get less annoyed when I think I've been insulted :P

But yes. I forgive you for all that, hopefully you can forgive me. Now, back to light-hearted discussions about Laguna's sexy, sexy goats.

EDIT: Oh, and if I could clarify: I said "you are making a fool of yourself" not "you are a fool". I referred to other people saying that you were "being a prick", I did not call you a prick. I said you were "being a asshat", I did not call you an asshat. I was annoyed with your conduct - I don't actually have any personal bent against you. I think it's important that we see this for what it is: I (thought) I was defending myself (even though that TMTR thing was actually aimed at RCP) and you were defending yourself. In reality, you did not insult me, just like I did not insult you - we were attacking each other's statements, no more, no less.

I just ate 2 burritos while reading this. They were good, carne asada. This has been quite amusing, but I have a few questions. Is there really a LU dictator? If so, who is he/she? I'd like to send this person a car directly out of somebody elses factory. I don't want to be on the pointy end of a nuke. But, all in all, it looks like everyone is getting along. So, how about that economy on LU. Crazy, huh? I'm sick of my corps page these last couple of weeks. Of course there's an LU dictator. In fact there's probably a thousand of them, give or take. :P

The LU economy is definitely on the wild side lately. But a lot of people are stepping up, building more corps to try to help. Accordian and Gothamloki are doing their part, obviously.

The flip side is there's some outrageous profits to be made right now if you have the right corps.

Well, outrageous under the price control economy we labor under. That's another thing I think has changed since my first trip down the SC lane, I don't recall any cap on prices before.

Ah, well. Things seem to be stabilizing as far as the long term econ outlook, but it's going to take time to ramp it all up.

Then we can sit around and complain about the oversupply problem, and who should close down corps.

Hey, you gonna eat that last burrito?

If you're running a country I think theres 2 best ways to get out of the economic crisis. 1: sell all of your corps in your country or close them down and let somebody else like a CEO deal with the shortage problems. Or 2: Be a lot more self sufficient with your corps like relying on yourself which is hard to do rather than those common markets as the price of goods are often worth a fortune. Im still thinking which way to go with this.

I'm just wondering if friend Gothamloki might not be an old comics book fan. "Gotham" definitely comic book city. I vaguely remember a comic character by the name of Loki.

And the language (well explained) just reminds me of an early Superman character, Mr. Mxyzpytlk (or something like that), who was a mischievous imp from another dimension who sometimes escaped to this dimension and gave Supes hell. Only way to send him back was to make him say his name backwards.

So..., I'm wondering if we make Gothamloki say that Arith.. thing backwards, will he discover another dimension for us? One where my Pharma corp can maybe make some money?
