Gold star in list of corporations (White Giant)

In my list of corporations, some have a gold star to the left of their name, and some don't. What does this star mean?

It means that the corp is new, recently built. I can't remember off the top of my head whether the star stays for 12, 18, or 24 game months, but it basically means "I just opened for business."
