I go to bed last night. I have enough workers to cover 100% production in my countries. I get up this morning and I need 100s of thousands of workers for full production. Not just low end either workers. I'm short managers and engineers too. Its like 3-4 corporations were built in each of my countries overnight.

But there aren't any new corporations. In one country only two aren't at 100% (both at ~75%). In the other country there are all at 100%.

Any idea what is going on?

Looking at the number of corporations in my two countries It looks like I lost 3 corporation in both countries in the last game month.....But that should mean I have MORE workers. Not less.

You may have created a demographic hole. This happens by the supply of a certain worker type decreases over a generation, when all the workers go into retirement there isn't enough in the next generation to replace them. The result a worker shortage.
This will happen if you regularly convert educated people into workers then decide to stop, education priorities are changed significantly, massive privatization of large economies (efficiency of many corporations increase around the same time changing the demand of the entire workforce), extremely rapid growth (lots of corporations are built in a short period of time, causing a similar situation with corporation efficiency as privatization), rapid growth in population (pop transfers) without adequate growth in education and health system (next generation will have the same infrastructure but more will have to use it), or extreme education expansion (will significan

Also if you need lots of "100% needed production" in every area you probably only have a shortage in one professional. (100% needed for production + reserved for new facilities) - unemployed = number of workers you actually need more of. Any => 0 you have shortages of, any < 0 you don't need to worry about, it only says they are needed because the shortage is preventing them from working. If you are only capable of hiring 50% of a needed professional then the game only allows you to hire 50% of all needed professionals.

I wonder if it had something to do with the changes made to the game. It still shows that I lost 3 corps in each country. But the worker shortage disappeared and the unemployment rate didn't change....

weird.

That can't be quite right, Angus. I'm suffering from 31% unemployment after a large chunk of my corps cut hiring. In all cases the 100% need for production + reserved for new facilities (which, in every case is 0, so its really only my 100% needed number) - unemployed is for ALL profession <= 0. As such, I can't deduce what profession I need by the equation given...since I should technically have plenty for every profession then, right?

Kamihiv, you say all your numbers are <0... By how much? There appears to be a one month offset in the numbers in terms of timing the new workers comming in. Check how big the numbers are. If one of them is roughly the same size as the number of new workers trained in that profession for the month, then that is the one holding you back.

Well your country seams ok now. And yes in that case you have enough workers, you will need to wait for the corporations to rehire the people they sacked. They will only hire 5% of each type of professional each month, in your case since your country is still small you may have produced a large shortage in one worker type, causing the rest to be sacked (hence the 100000s of workers needed even if you had enough).

Thanks a lot for the replies. Luckily saw a small increase before I had to head to work for the evening and left feeling like it would only improve.

Wasn't aware of the 5% hiring rule, explains a lot as to why it took some time to recover after a few steps to make the recovery. Will just have to be something I keep a closer eye on in the future.

Thanks again ya'll.

I woke up this morning to find every single country in my empire having massive (100-200K) HLW shortages and half the corps in my empire laying off workers. When I went to bed last night, everything was fine.

49. Workers Flexibility - Moving between workers and professionals groups [ top ]

We have increased the flexibility of workers moving between workers groups and professions. Large shortages of High Level Workers became a major problem for mainly long-term players with large countries. The problem is now solved.

Up to 24.000 workers can become HLWs each game month, allowing for the required flexibility.

We have now moved to solve the problem of too many unemployed professionals that are highly educated buy never find a job.

If the numbers of unemployed in any group will exceed a set threshold, some will move back into the workers groups.

Examples: if there are more than 200.000 unemp

So if I stop converting professionals to workers, my worker shortages will eventually stop, and they will start to replenish themselves?

there seems to be a problem today with HLW, se the White Giant thread above

Tuning takes place frequently and the movements of workers between groups continue all the time and remain unchanged in size.

If you have any shortages of HLWs and many unemployed LLWs, then movements will continue in the coming game months and shortages will be reduced.

We are making changes from time to time that can have short term effects.

One of the reasons is an increase in the number of corporations in all worlds.
we have seen such increase recently, both because countries without a president now have more corporations but also because more players are increasing their population.

More corporations can slow down the processing and to prevent that effect, we are, prom time to time, increasing the number of workers in some corporations and with it, the output of these corporations.

If corporations are larger, their numbers will not increase so fast.

These corporations also become more profitabl

Hmmm. The changes seem to be too dramatic to be caused by tuning. I have seen this happen in both monthly updates today. I have seen lower amounts of high tech engineers and seniors along with dramatically lower numbers of hlw. So far, no movement of llw or mlw to hlw have been observed in my empire. Please have an open mind and look for the problem. In my largest country 50m pop, the fluctuations are too large too be fixed by moving 50k workers. My employment is only 91% and dropping due to this issue.

Have to agree.

Tom that's all very well but the explanations are always too little too late. Bear in mind that you have to continue to get your US dollar from the customer ( especially from this Scotsman) and my confidence is waining.

I had just spent another 10 gold coins in POP thinking I had ballsed my totals and still couldn't resolve the problem!! and then you timidly come in with the excuses

Plan ahead and go practice elsewhere and think about some compensatory actions or you will lose business.

@ Coolwind

You're out of line. If there's a problem they will fix it. A little patience should not be too much to ask. Being disrespectful and threatening is completely unneeded.
