So, I bought a corporation from the game enterprise, which put me in the hole 50 billion, so i ended up borrowing like around 2T cash. This left me with around 1.5 trillion cash outstanding.

I come back and I see i've re-paid about 600 billion or so. Did these loan paybacks kick in because they were due or because i had a lot of cash and a lot of debt and the game saw fit to automatically manage my funds? All my loans are due like years in the future. I think my enterprise joined the game in the year 2605 and I don't recall any loans being due June 2609 but I haven't looked too closely.

The game automatically pays off loans when you have a lot of cash. This was introduced some time ago as a "support function" for empires that were very deep in debt.

Interest on loans used to be much higher, somewhere around 30 times higher I believe. This meant that empires that had tens of trillions in debt were financially crippled.

Converting interest rates from calculated per game year to calculated per real year brought interest rates down to the point where it no longer makes sense to prepay unless it is very early in the loan period--but the game automatically does it anyway. This "support function" is, unfortunately, a remnant from a time when loan interest was much higher.

thanks.

I figure I'll just take out lots since I'm in a state of aggressive expansion. It'll get utilized sooner or later.

Yeah, interest rates are absurdly low in the game now.

Just be careful NOT to let too much cash accumulate, lest they be auto-prepaid. There should at least be a checkbox under settings to stop auto payment of loans.

I don't see anything under settings to stop that.

I said there SHOULD be. Doesn't mean the GM will ever listen to what the players say :)
