Disasters were introduced to make the game a bit more interesting.

When you have a disaster in your country, you can use it as an opportunity to interact with your federation-mates, friends or others in the game, by asking for a little bit of disaster relief - adding a social element to the game.

If you prefer, you can set up your own disaster relief and/or invade a C3 and use that to supply the disaster relief via cargo planes.

Earthquakes are singular events and you can usually get over them relatively quickly. Nuclear disasters are player made and you might need to be a bit faster on the disaster relief, especially if a lot of warheads were exploded. You can prepare against disasters by setting up a limited amount of disaster relief in advance.

Disasters are the GameGods way of having a laugh at your expense. It's just cheap humor. Don't take it personal. They do it to all of us.

Use those disasters to your advantage to move population around. Consider them a gift.
