War against C3's (White Giant)

I currently have 2 countries in my empire and was looking to take over a third country. I declared war and following what seams to be the general guidance, painted the country and then attack its air defence. I attacked with a air force attack unit with ground support nearby but my forces were completely wiped out with little loses to the enemy. I then attack with a ground unit as well that sustained heavy damage. I was fighting the war at lvl 2 and the fist country i captured was very easy, i know its meant to be. After losing these units i decided to pull out as it seamed impossible for me to win. My forces greatly outnumbered the enemy and I've no idea why they were defeated so easily in battle. Could anyone help me on what may have gone wrong? If you need any further detail please ask.

Did you put "attack defenses" before you actually attacked the target?

And also, a battle report from your country newspaper would help.

Yes I had selected attack defences.

Here are the battle reports. Some were attacks on air defence units others were on towns or counties. I had selected attack defences on all these attacks. These are all the attacks i did before pulling out of the war.

The Kingdom of Moldana lost 1817 soldiers and 6245 were wounded. The United Kingdom of Milleta defense was assisted by the Bagarat unit.'

Thanks for the posts. I have taken the C3 now, although it was strange how it took so long for the war index to drop. I destroyed all cities and towns but that was not enough and I had to attack the factories and forts as well.
