how do you attain air superiority it seems very difficult at war level 3 with myself losing many fighters for interceptors very expensive...do you even have to take out the air defense for ground operations? is it cheaper to destroy air defenses with SAM type weapons it seems very expensive (which I guess is good if your getting invaded)

You have to take out the heli's to run ground ops. You can use air or ground it's up to you. Most players use air attack I think. Im 1 of them. If you use bombers to shield your fighter you're losses will be minimal. 1 fighter/bomber wing with 400 fighters-100 bombers should be enough to take out the ints at war level 3.

To bypass the int's use OAAMB with MRMB and target the heli's direct. Once there gone your ground troops are free atatck. I think this method is cheaper but not sure how much.

I use ground!

At war level 3, I just took a country using 3 units:

1 Division of this:
1000 OAAMB + 600 MRMB
Default ammo for both

2 Divisions of this:
1000 MRMB + 600 HA
Default MRMB ammo, 300k HA ammo

That first division will take out air easy. Attack defenses on a county a few times and all the helis are gone (there are only three heli wings). I usually follow that up with direct attacks against the empty Heli wings to prevent them from being resupplied - one usually gets resupplied with 100 helis after a little bit.

Overall, I expended this:
~70 mrmb
~4,000 oaamb ammo
~10,000 mrmb ammo
~330,000 ha ammo

Of those, 25 mrmb and 4,000 oaamb ammo were used to take out the air. Quality of the unit was 276.

how does shielding them with bombers help? wont your bombers just get shot down? arent bombers more expensive? plus im a free member so i cant easily attain bombers...im going to try the ground method thanks guys? and could you do that also with defensive AA batts

oh and do you guys use defensive units or fortifications for ground defense do fortifications give you a bonus

My opinion is that there ceased to be any reason for using Bomber shields with Fighters when the maximum size of the unit dropped below 1000. 500 Fighter wings, ftw!

Anyway, for the other units, use the MRMB to attack defense, then use the HA to attack target. I usually paint to get the 30 points from that then hit the corporations, then capital, then cities, then fortifications.

Other stuff:
Defensive AA only defend... :/
Fortifications will make it take longer for another player to win a war against you. That's what they do. They're big speed bumps.
Defensive units are kind of like fortifications... except you can ignore them by moving your invading units a little bit to the left.

Bombers act as bait for the enemy Int's. Whilst there going after the bombers your fighters can go to town on them. It's deffo worth using bombers as shields imo. I haven't tested it much. I always preffered drones as shields but thats no longer an option. But last time I did at war level 2 I was loosing around 20 0dd bombers per attack. Compare that to the time I just went with fighters and I was loosing 40 something per attack. Given fighters and bombers are about the same market value you deffo save yourself a few quid. The higher the war level though it may be different.

Mizore wouldn't you save yourself time and clicks if you just went for the heli's units straight off the bat?

Forts are great for defence as there real hard to kill and use up alot of ammo for the attacker, plus your defence at a fort gets a bonus I think. Having lots of forst in your country can be enough to put of an attacker all together. 100 is a good number but only in slaves. Having them in a secured main is pointless.

When I fought regularly you received less losses by attacking a county/town to draw out helis, because, I believe, only one wing responds at a time. If you attack a wing directly then you are fighting it and another that responds to the attack. Thats how I remember it anyway.

Of course, its a good idea to attack the dead wing directly, after killing it, to destroy all the trucks and whatever so the wing never gets replenished.

Ok thx Crafty, that's good to know. Makes sense really. I've never run a ground only offence. I'll get round to trying it 1 day.

so i just used the ground assault technique and it was quite effective? so how do you defend against it?

There is no defense against any attack. There are just differently named speedbumps.

If someone does a ground assault against you, attack the invading units and attack the invading country.

There are some changes we plan for the war process.

1. A unit that is close to an attacked target (within range of the attacker) should participate in the defense.
The attacked target can be a fixed one (fortification or a city etc.) or another unit.

2. A military unit with offensive weapons should attack enemy units if they move within range. you can move your units around them to avoid a confrontation.

3. More and better qualified alerts.
War time alerts will be added, informing you if enemy units enter your country, war events that take place etc. to allow you to intervene.
This will be optional and will be added to the Alert system.

These changes will be announced ahead of time (now and in the game news, and here again).

we think that it will add functionality to the land forces, allow for more dynamic defense and add more strategy features to the war process.

With the new mobile units and intelligence units that can easily move across borders, the war game is up for some improvements.

Drones in large numbers are managed by many people on the ground. They are flown from any position but launched, maintained, armed and supplied by many people on the ground, usually close to where the fighting is.

These people can be attacked and die in counter attacks.

In Simcountry, the casualties are averaged at some number you see when they are lost.

I actually launched them from 1200 miles away but ok

"A military unit with offensive weapons should attack enemy units if they move within range. you can move your units around them to avoid a confrontation."

so if you have MRMB or something like that anytime a unit moves they will attack and most likely be destroyed by defensive counter measures from the other unit....

good ideas I think though just need some clarification

something I wanted to bring up I just learned the intracacies of grounds based anti air maneuvers (using lots of offensive anti air batts in a division to kill responding helicopters bypassing interceptor defense

this seems kind of cheap because in real life commanders don't send their troops blindly to react to any defense it is one od the tenents of warfare to NOT get drawn into a trap so it seems abit ridiculous when helicopters blindly respond to any attack when the attack is clearly intended to destroy the responders....could something be implemented to fix this idk

and with warfare it seems like everything is very fast you can conquer a c3 in like 5 minutes if you want.....in PvP warfare are things slowed down to allow the defense to respond

but like I said I like the sound of more dynamic defense and strategy

I don't understand the problem.

Offensive anti aircraft batteries can attack helicopters. The defense, will strike back.

The defense will include the most capable wing within range (with defensive Helicopters) and any defensive weapons in a single most capable military unit within range.

This will conclude the entire attack.

Details on the weapons that can respond and how effective they are are described in the weapons document.
