Military units employement

I have a small empire with a slave country adjacent to my main. The main is secured but not the slave. Could land units of the main country, once positioned in the slave, help to its defense, even if the main country was not at war with the aggressor? Thanks in advance.

Only if they are mobile units lent by your main.
