Dismantling units (Golden Rainbow)

When I go to dismantle a unit I get a message stating "All effort to train the unit will be lost! Are you sure you want to dismantle X".

What effort? Is there really any drawback to dismantling unit? I'm trying to save some cash and the unit in question is a supply unit that was present when I started the game. So it has a bunch of weapons in it and I have decided to do the minimalist approach to supply units (1 jeep and a bunch of gas).

Also, do you really save money by not deploying military equipment that you have in inventory? Or do you have to deactivate/sell it?

No training is lost, feel free to dismantle.

You only save money when the weapons are deactivated or sold.
