My country lost about 50 points from its score in one turn, and the only change was me acquiring a slave. Do slaves decrease your score?

Does dropping in level (such as from level 5 to level 3)?

Yes, that will do it. You get score momentum when going up or down a level. Negative momentum when decreasing levels and positive momentum when gaining a level.

A 2 level drop will surely sour your country score and it's momentum needs to be turned around.

Adding slaves can increase your government costs. Increased government costs would drop your finance score.
