Back in the day, there used to be a newspaper at the bottom of every country's page that announced events going on in the world.

I recently had an idea regarding that newspaper. Anyone who's played SimCity would have seen the "News Ticker" that, along with listing important events, also says some silly stuff like "Broccoli proven to cure cancer". How cool would it be if SC had a newspaper much like SimCity's news ticker? I'm thinking something like this:

(period March-May)
World: LU
Events: 1 war in march, 1 Earthquake in May.

===THE NEWSPAPER===
==March 2010==
Hostilities in [CONTINENT NAME] (e.g. Lacerta)
Relations between [country a] and [country b] have been deteriorating for some time, and on the [date] of March, these hostilities degraded into open war. Recent conflicts have seen [xxxx] soldiers killed near the [object type (e.g. city)] of [object name (e.g. Preston)]. Attempts at negotiations between the two nations have amounted to little and it is expected that the war might continue for some time yet.
==April 2010==
In a breakthrough discovery, a study has shown that the distribution of nuclear weapons throughout [world name] is closely linked to the predominant colour of the dogs of each region. Countries with predominantly brown dogs tend to have the least nuclear weapons, whereas countries with green eight-legged dogs that glow tend to have an unusually high proportion of nuclear arms. No word yet on the nuclear armament of cat lovers.
==May 2010==
A violent earthquake has rocked the region of [region name], with [xxxx] dead or missing throughout the area. The Blue Circle has begun a worldwide disaster relief appeal, calling upon all countries to give a little to their neighbours in this time of need. Pop star Britney Swords is also in on the charity action, today announcing plans for a "Rock Me Like an Earthquake" tour across [continent]. 1% of ticket sales profits from the tour will be donated to the victims of the [date, i.e. May 2010] Earthquake Disaster.

You get the idea.

W3C could also employ someone (or give someone free membership, hint hint :P) to write additional newspaper articles based on the current affairs in the forum. For instance:

==June 2010==
Relations between Psycho Honey and Scarlet and once again looking strained as the pair continued insulting one another's mothers in negotiations this month. Threats of nuclear warfare from Psycho Honey have been met with promises of a boycott from Scarlet, whilst Jiang Hu Warrior's attempts to calm the situation have only resulted in the questioning of his manhood. As troops mass on the borders of Inannas Temple and Scarlet Renaissance, this reporter has only one question: who will strike the first blow?

Yeah. Let me know what you think :D

I will strike first. Most certainly and without a doubt. Good idea, funny yes, practical no. But I like it.

The Psycho Honey/Scarlet thing was just for shits and giggles. You two are always at each other's throats.

I think it would be perfectly practical without the last part. Just have a set of maybe 100 or 200 different "newspaper items", along with 4 or 5 different "items" on wars and natural disasters, and then rotate them based on what's happening in the world (if nothing, you use the generic newspaper items).

I agree, plus one, you should submit it to voting. I remember that bit from simcity, and another game I have played (I have since forgotten the name, it might come to me later.

I personally can not submit it, as I am for the moment a free member. That may or may not change in the next day or so. But I am sure other people would be willing.
