The stregnths and weaknesses of a representative democracy is really a thin line. The idea of electing officials that represent a group of the population, impacts the freedoms of those in the minority. And spawns large levels of corruption.

This is true in all examples of representitive democracy including the most prevalent 2, the United States of America, and the Roman Empire.

Typically the people will support what seems to service them the greatest. These leads to oversight of long term effects, the environment, equal opportunity, and general welfare. Riots occur almost everytime that a group is discriminated against. Case in point labor laws, women sufferage, the civil rights act.

So essentially a representative democracry will always leads to an aristocracy, of self services individuals. This is actually great for corporate profits, but as the desparity grows general welfare goes down. It is also the only government type when in times of prosperity output and production actually decreases. Through the will of the majorities ability to actualize and utilize ownership of anything, instituting strong bourgoises.
