United Nations Role

seems to me each planet has a UN, but they are pretty much useless, and have no power to do anything about anything. Why not give them the authority after a majority vote to issue out economic sanctions against those empires or alliances that have complaints filed against them for whatever reason. basically with a majority vote, differing levels of sanctions could be applied that would cut off trade ability from outside nations and common markets. to whatever degree that be agreed upon. something along that lines. just a thought!

The real life UN is weak and not worthy of respect or listening to... so why would we make the simulated version any different? lol. It would be slightly more realistic if the security councils had peacekeeping troops but it would get abused.

lol I think we should setup a forum for gov officials of any federation to come and discuss events that will affect LU as a whole, let it be Game updates, fluxes in world market, or possible war..

Actually - it would be realistic if the Security Councils on the worlds (maybe except FB) would be more like the real Security Council. The Security Councils on Simcounty world are more like aid organizations (World Bank). A bit of a joke...

The real Security Council of the UN takes on issues of peace and security threats to world peace. The Security Council can authorize action against threats to peace - such as when one country attacks another unprovoked - or one country invades another country. The real Security Council has more teeth and legitimacy than the rest of the UN organization. The European Unions actions at peacekeeping in Africa were authorized by the Security Council and the EU does not take on military missions without SC authorization.

The UN is nothing but a bunch of legal gangsters and mobsters. The UN org is among the top mass murdering org's in history.

In reality, the Security Council (the REAL one) has lots of legitimacy among nations. Nations will seek the legitimacy of military actions before going to war - and when they don't get it they go to war anyways (US before Iraq War).
The rest of the UN is nothing more than a peace and cooperation organization - but the Security Council has more legitimacy in peace and security.

Uhhh. The NLUO was set up for that, but it is rejected, just as the idea of a UN is rejected.
