Government Types

A suggestion to have various plus and minuses for having a certain government type. Example say if you select a democracy you would get bonuses in the economy area. Then say if you were a dictatorship you would get bonus in the military aspect but not so much the economy.

I don't see a problem with this generally. Need to make a clearer picture of the details to check feasibility.

For starters:

In what way does democracy help the economy? How does dictatorship help my military? Would there be something to stop me from simply being a wartime dictatorship and a peacetime democracy? Can all my countries still have a different government? If so, do I perhaps get some type of bonus if they have a consistent government type, maybe lower government costs? What bonuses fit with other government types?

I assume the goal is to have game balance here, not to faithfully represent what would happen in the real world, so let's try these bonuses on for size. This is spitballing, not something I'd want them to implement without testing, but it's fun to throw out ideas.

Government types:
- Anarchy -> -100% General Cost of Government
- Aristocracy -> +25% birth rate
- Dictatorship -> Spending space doubled
- Fascist State -> Halved military maintenance needs
- Kingdom -> Score Penalty removed twice as fast
- Socialist State -> LLW, MLW, and HLW can work in each other's jobs without penalty
- Democracy -> +10 Welfare

Make it so you can't change more than every 5-10 game years, just to be safe from stupid shenanigans.

In general, those seem quite a bit too powerful. Some specific things:

-There are currently 10 government types. Some appear to be missing.

-Score penalty is an account thing. It is unlikely we will see the possibility of running a bunch of kingdoms to make score penalty moot or the inevitability of everyone having a token single kingdom somewhere for a single non-commulative effect.

-Fascist state bonus would hit the market too much for the necessary products.

-Socialist State bonus would likely be a mess to implement.

-Multiple cost reducing bonuses might be seen as adding a level of complexity for which the game already has enough.

I'll add that my position is that any added bonuses should be earned rather than automatic. For example, currently you must be of PvP war level and drop you war level protection for a mild, like 5 points, welfare increase. Add the same requirement for the government bonuses, in my opinion, and make the current welfare bonuses attached to selecting the "democracy" government with additional options available by selecting a different type.

I was thinking you'd choose for your whole empire, not just for each country, but I probably should have said that. That said, I'm not sure that they're too powerful - you just have to balance them against each other, not against an abstract absence of any bonus.

I do agree that the socialist bonus would be a pain to implement. It seemed cool and fitting, but probably unrealistic to expect. The fascist bonus wouldn't hurt the market that badly, though - even if 1/4 of all countries used it(which seems unlikely, it's not the strongest there), that's a 12.5% reduction in demand. That won't hurt the market too badly. If you're worried, though, a lot of these can be mitigated somewhat by increasing the baselines a bit.

Your idea of earned bonuses seems like a decent one, but unrelated to this. Give a bonus for turning off WP if you like, but it doesn't need to be government-based. Or if it is, mak

I've modified Al Sadius' idea because I was bored. I think government type should be a major variable on how the government functions so I have some rather large numbers here, but I argue that governments function quite differently in some areas and so the numbers should accommodate that. and of course each government is different and so there will always be exceptions to any one size fits everybody formula, but I've thrown down some numbers here anyway that make choosing which government you have quite important depending on what strategy you have or what state your country is in. Why did I use big numbers? Just to use 1 of many examples we could look at, there was a big difference between life in Soviet Union and life in United States or western Europe, and so I've tried to make this set of numbers reflect these different realities.

What about different branches of government types (Social-Democracy, Fascist Kingdom, Socialist Aristocracy, Mixed Types, etc.) Also the quality of Education, Health and Social Programms for the people should be the prime focus of a Socialist Democracy. Something I try to be but in my country, there are so little people in Uni compared to the population of younger people.

Also I think that having a age selection where sections of schools start and end (having Child schooling start at age 3-5 then having the second stage at 5-10 or 6-10 then Teenage school schooling beginning 10-16) simular to what we have in Germany, branches like Hauptschule (normal people school), Abi and Gymnasium (basically preparing for an actual carrere)and have the enrollment rates and private and State owned Universities to have a enrollment fee or none at all, just something to better the efficiency of nations and profitability in Corporati
