300GC is a large amount and it should be reduced a bit. However, its also an option to take a nation through war, which is relatively cheap and quick with the basic resources given to new players.

You still need to consider the 30gc cost to keep the new nation. You only get 1 nation for free, perhaps change the rule so if you buy a nation you will not be charge the 30gc fee?. This could be justified by saying the nation was willing to join you a the cash was the expense of a free election and other cost to join you. If you attack the nation to place it under you rule then the 30gc fee would be understandable as cost needed to rule people that do not support you.

See "Membership Details" for the extra 30gc fee details

The GM should keep and slightly modify the 300GC limit. This was from a time in which we should use Game money to purchase GC. If you wanted to buy a nation out right it would cost $30 USD for a single nation which is very heavy.

I do think there should be a substantial cost for players who will not participate in the war game, but 300GC for every nation is VERY steep.
In my opinion anytime you move to a new world, By this I mean the first nation you obtain on an world should be 300GC. It should remain high because you are investing. However, any nation after the first nation should be 150GC. In my opinion this is very fair price and would encourage both player selling of nations and buying of C3 nations.

Yeah i would agree to the point of noting that totally pushing up the gold coins to pretty much tell anyone "taking a country via military war engine" to heavily encourage players to utilize war levels and war rewards but it is steep. 300 gold coins is not even a first prize award about half that. So i would note that it is very high.

Like super mentioned: more around 100-150, creates more of a fair play as usually to note unless players have such empires were they may be able to guide in populations to help growth vs players who are small and might have to use the same gold coins to buy population or even game cash, as most players who are not just choosing to partake in the war game but some also would rather not as i will note: war game has alot to it but once its learned easy to reflect but again it takes time and effort, most players want to put that into their countrys, not learned a war engine. Bit of the problem there to but its l
