Hi again, thanks for fixing game funds transfer problem. The 2.8 Trillion I lost overnight - I suppose will never see again. NEW Issue: When trying to build new corps on MAGOG I cannot see the chart that tells me # or employees available.
Also when adding schools - I could not see the chart. I cleared cache and rebooted - but still gone. Adrian

We will look into it first thing Tuesday morning.
Thanks for the message.

The 2.5T were not lost.
Nothing is lost!

you mean that cash moved to your corporations? This is only an issue of timing.
If more was moved now, it means you will not need any cash in the corporations later.

Check your cash log.
Nothing is lost so please don't make it sound like you have lost.

@Gog. Doesn't your screen look like the above screenshot? If not, which browser are you using?

I get this issue with firefox (charts and graphs entirely missing)

Some addition charts graphs and general website bugs on top here.

This morning. (UK time)

The interface bar along the top and a number of other links ceased to function (or appear, its just black space and the links have the hover over but no function). This is in Chrome. I logged into firefox successfully and all bars appeared immediately. This bug happens with chrome only.

Next, Chrome again.
Opened a corporation type details page (any, household products, electric etc etc) and clicked for a graph, none of the graphs popped up (neither did that popup).
Firefox was able to pop up the page and I copied the link to the graphs to chrome and they worked but the popup still ceased to function.

I really don't want to have to switch between 2 browsers just to use this site (and the mobile app is too slow and lacks trade as well as the annoying cross in the corner of a graph clicks on the link below when you click it).

Anyway, most of this post is about problems with the graphs and charts.

(Chrome autoupdates and was closed and reopened a number of times for testing as was firefox).

Can someone investigate causes?

The popup bit is probably to do with some javascript misfiring (never had this popup problem before in the last 6 months, since playing)

Other methods to resolve include clearing cache and all internet data from chrome, full refresh (ctrl f5).

@Adam: There was a problem with the number of javascript events fired by the country map. Firefox choked on it.
We just fixed that.

This definitely explains why the menu bar was not displayed.

I am not sure if this fixes your problem with the graphs.
The graphs seem to work fine.

Can you please test the current situation?
If the graphs are still not displayed, can you make screenshots
that show where you click and what happens?
Thanks!

sure ok right.

Testing mode.

Menu Bar - intermittent before, currently seems fine but time will tell.

Firefox Graphs - Fail, No graphs display, see:

http://00freebuild.info/uploads/FirefoxGraphMissing.png

Chrome Graph Popup - Fail, see following for location of popup links:

http://00freebuild.info/uploads/ChromeCoalGraphPopups.png

My guess is JS for all these issues.

PS spent ages trying to figure out \ image and \ topurl to try to link them, is there a guide?

@Adam:

1. Regarding \image and \topurl: please check the "Formatting" link on the left.

2. My guess is also JS for the graphs problem, but I
cannot find a problem there. I have tested Chrome and Firefox on 4 different computers running Linux, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

3. Which version of Firefox are you running?

4. Are you familiar with the Developer Console?
If you open it (F12), are there any messages or errors
on the "Console" tab when you popup the graph?

@All:

5: Anyone else with this problem?

Thanks.

Thank you for investigating.

I will see if I can clear up any more for you.

Ok so on the main page the developer console says this:

An unbalanced tree was written using document.write() causing data from the network to be reparsed. For more information https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Optimizing_Your_Pages_for_Speculative_Parsing

I am going to ignore this as this is not where I am investigating.

Ok this is what it says when I try to open a graph in firefox:

SyntaxError: missing name after . operator graphs_jsvfw.js:1
ReferenceError: line_graph is not defined jsgraph:14

Firefox is v35.0.1

Chrome now, lets see if i can get some reports going here.

Chrome says this:
Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input
(program):1 Uncaught ReferenceError: graph_window is not defined
cgi2nova:108 Uncaught ReferenceError: deskbutton_over is not defined
cgi2nova:108 Uncaught ReferenceError: deskbutton_out is not defined
cgi2nova:131 Uncaught ReferenceError: deskbutton_over is not defined
cgi2nova:131 Uncaught ReferenceError: deskbutton_out is not defined

I think that top one is the cause of my chrome unrest "(program):1".

Chrome is Version 40.0.2214.93 m
Chrome just updated and same issue, now Version 40.0.2214.94 m

Additional system information.

Thanks Adam!

This is exactly the information I need!

I am puzzled because I also use Firefox v35.0.1 and I do not get these errors on the developer console.
Do you have a javascript plugin or extension installed?
If so, does it help to disable these plugins/extensions?

We have just installed an upgrade.
This upgrade should give more information on the developer console.
Could you test again and send me the output on the developer console again?

If it is more convenient you can also mail it to gamemaster@simcountry.com

Thanks!

My firefox is stock, i dont use it except for testing webpages i develop.

Graphs are now working on firefox.
Graphs from the popup window are now working in chrome too.

Now just get that spending space problem sorted :)

Thank you for your help.

P.S. Dev console is clear on both now.

Thanks Adam.
I am glad my changes have some effect :-)

I also disabled compression for this javascript file. Tomorrow we will install an upgrade (also for the spending space problem) in which I will enable compression again.

If the compression breaks the graphs again, please let us know.

Strange.
It looks like the JS page is not completely loaded (Unexpected end of input).
Does it help to clear the cache and reload?

What about firefox? Still okay? Also the graphs?

Adam

Friday, February 6, 2015 - 09:30 pm Click here to edit this post
Firefox had a caching problem but on reload (ctrl f5) it cleared. (ctrl f5 failed on chrome multiple times to reload)

I noticed you have no-cache specified on the pages so it doesn't make sense to me either.

You will be pleased to know that chrome is following your orders to the letter ...

CHROME!!!!

Ok I will clear chromes cache and report back

Guess what.

It is now fully functional again.

Ok so ANYONE using chrome having issues should clear the browsers cache BECAUSE its not following the rules set by the webpages.

I am beginning to hate this cache problem.

I posted too soon.

Ok the very next page on opening my country the menu had vanished and at the top AGAIN

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input

Then followed by a whole load of errors again.

This time it can't be caching can it?

Back to the settings, clicked clear cache. YES IT IS THE CACHE AGAIN!

I may be leaving chrome at this rate. (First time since 2009)

.
.
.

Right so I "disabled" the cache on chrome and most pages instantly worked again.

Problem 1 has occurred again, the popup graph windows are producing the same errors they were at the start. The strange thing is I can see the function code for the bits it says are missing in the js file if i open that in chrome.

I think I may start going back to firefox after today. (and I like web programming!!!)

Ok so I did some investigating on stackoverflow and found a tip for hard reloads. F12 the page (the item information page that contains the popup graph links, had to put them in a tab first), hold left click on the reload button and choose hard reload and clear cache.

That actually got the popups working. Ok Chrome will be in the toilet tomorrow if I have any more trouble.

@Adam.

Don't understand what is going on here.

It looks like javascript files are only partially loaded.
That explains the "unexpected end of input" and the fact that functions
are missing.

As far as I know, nobody else is having this problem.
Am I wrong????

Are you maybe browsing via a proxy?

Where are you located? In the states?
The javascript files and style sheets are all coming from the amazon cloud.
Maybe there is something wrong in that area?

Possibly the cloud service I would guess. I am in the UK so the pond between us might be causing these issues.

I have never used proxys (except when in a works environment, not at home).

It is definitely to do with partially loaded scripts and the crazy thing is I can manually open the js scripts and they load completely fine. I am sure there is some issue in chrome where its caching the partial scripts but why it didnt download them in the first place properly I can't tell.

@adam,
I googled 2 possible solutions.
I don't understand how they would help but it is worth the try.

1. Use a different name server. For instance google name server 8.8.8.8

2. Disable IP version 6.

Does this make a difference?

I will let you know as it filters through. Some days I have better website functionality than others in chrome.

Its only ever been this site though.

I have updated my DNS names and disabled ipv6.

Happened yesterday?
And ip v6 still disabled.

Can't be a coincidence that I upgrade javascript files yesterday.

For some reason chrome doesn't load the javascript
files from the cloud completely.

Try clearing the cache and reload. Maybe a couple
of times. Maybe it succeeds one time on a refresh?

Thanks, ipv6 has remained disabled.

I suspect its a caching issue in chrome a I suspected as you say you just updated the files and it didn't load them. Cache is "disabled" although chrome still caches everything.

I reloaded about 25 times with ctrl held, without it, in developer mode, rebooted browser and nothing. I went to firefox to write that post.

Today, its fine... Definitely cache though

So I came across the popup page that wasn't working for charts again. I got rather fed up and decided to look at the developer options all the way through. In the console at the top I saw a drop down with <top frame> and in it was one of the browser extensions i installed called WOT (web of trust). Its a handy add in to warn you about bad websites. I thought I would try and disable it.

One full refresh later and the charts worked.

Maybe its coincidence but i will let you know if it isn't.

Ok so firefox died on me the other night as well. Chrome is being a nightmare still.

I have done a little research into this. A possible suggested fix is adding brackets around ALL returned values in the js files. I understand this may be a fair amount of work but its apparently triggered by minification of the js.

I suspect that minification is the cause of my browsers hating this website. I have cleared caches, installed latest versions, hard reloaded, disabled caching and this is the only site I have major issues with.

As per previous comments, ipv6 is still disabled, the WoT extension I removed is not the culprit as that is still removed. I am just glad my country has been pretty self reliant.

Also, what happened to bricks? my 900 bil valued company bottomed out with massive losses (closed now)

Just read about another anti caching method which might just work. adding a timestamp to a cached filename wont cache it.

ie main.css?1234567890 (random generation on every new page). Doesn't affect the script and doesn't get cached
